Welcome to Retromags, the vintage video game magazine archive

Welcome to Retromags, the vintage video game magazine archive. This site is all about digitally preserving video game magazines from yesteryear. You'll find hundreds of full issues to download and thousands of scanned magazine covers. Game magazines used to be incredibly important to the game industry, and while those days are long gone thanks to the Internet and World Wide Web, that does not mean those old magazines shouldn't be remembered and enjoyed today. This site allows you to do so easily and digitally. It's a nice alternative to having to have boxes of magazines stored in your house if that's something you don't want.

We are always looking for help, be it scanning or donating magazines, or contributing to the site in other forms. It costs nothing to be a member of this site. We do not sell anything on this site, and there are no ads. There are no profits made on this site; any money that is ever obtained by this site goes towards the cost of hosting the site.

A Note to Publishers and Content Owners
This site is set up to digitally preserve video game magazines from 1999 and earlier for current magazines. The rules for defunct magazines vary on a case-by-case basis. We do this because issues of these magazines are not readily available from publishers/content owners. While we don’t have legal permission, we operate in a way where we do not release anything that will reduce any potential income for you, or magazines that are available from you, nor do we release scans that are of a quality that may reflect poorly on you. So far this has worked, with several publishers/content owners basically ignoring our existence.

However, if you wish that we do not make content that you legally have ownership available on this site, just let us know and we will remove it. While we would prefer permission, we will fully oblige with your wishes concerning your content. This is a hobby we do out of passion and love for the video game magazines of yesterday, and not worth legal battles of any kind.

I really appreciate all the hard work being put into these scans. I'd feel a little uncomfortable just taking, taking, taking, so I would like to attempt to help out. I don't have much in terms of magazines, but I came up with 2 possibilities for possible scanning.

1. Totally Unauthorized Nintendo 64 Games Guide Volume 2 (Brady Games 1997)
-128 pages
-Codes, hints, maps, level guides, etc.
-Games covered: Blast Corps, Doom 64, Mario Kart 64, Turok Dinosaur Hunter, War Gods 64, Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey (Great game!!!), Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, Cruis'n USA, Killer Instinct Gold, Fifa Soccer 64.

2. Ultimate Nintendo 64 Pocket Guide, 1999 Edition (Prima 1999)
-As the name suggests, it's a small book covering N64 games.
-It's in black and white, so I'm not sure how that'll work out with scanning.
-Games covered: 1080 Snowboarding, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing, F-Zero X, LoZ Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, PilotWings 64, Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Yoshi's Story, plus a Pokemon bonus section.

My questions are:
-Have any of these been done before?
-If not, which one would be the most interesting of the 2?

Welcome to Retromags. I'd like to see totally unauthorized Nintendo 64 games.
Black and white should scan just as well as color and neither of those magazines have been scanned. This magazine should be uploaded to Player Guides & Strategy Books.

I'm not sure where Ultimate Nintendo 64 Pocket Guide will be uploaded. Maybe in the Player & Strategy Books section as well.

Have a read at Phillyman's topic quick and dirty how to upload magazines.

The Totally Unauthorized Nintendo 64 Games Guide sounds pretty good so I'd like to see that but either magazine would be good.

Anyway welcome to Retromags Demonolith. :)

Thanks guys. I will be scanning the Totally Unauthorized N64 Volume 2 then. What bothers me is that I used to have a bunch of old gaming magazines from the 90's, namely Video Games The Ultimate Gaming Magazine, but I have no idea where they are. My dad seems to think that they were thrown away, which makes me kind of upset because I used to love looking in those magazines.
