About This File

Before writing in this box, I always do a quick flip-through of the mag and comment on whatever happens to strike my fancy, so to speak.  This time, it was Bruce Willis.  Bruce's rugged bald pate from the ad for his PS1 masterpiece, Apocalypse, really stood out from the rest of the ads, not to mention the rest of the games featured in the mag.  It's just so...Western.  Not that Apocalypse is the ONLY Western game to appear in this issue, but the other one is Crash Racing, and that's just cute enough to almost pass as a Japanese game.  But Bruce can't be bothered with cuteness, he's too busy blowing $@^& up.  Yippee kay yay, mother trucker.

Better a mother trucker than a melon farmer. :)

I have two favorites.

First is: "Where'd you get that scar?"  ..."Eating pineapple."  But that's just not the sort of thing that you ever have the chance to use in public discourse, so it takes second place to my all time favorite.

It's not my favorite because it's the funniest, mind you, but rather because I find my self actually SAYING it every now and then.  I don't even remember what movie it's from, other than that I think it was James Woods saying it:

"Slug - in - a - DITCH!"  (this is not an insult directed at someone, disparaging their lineage, but rather a slowly spoken swear of exasperation.  Like when you've been editing a cover for the last 15 minutes and then Photoshop crashes before you can save.  "Slug - in - a - DITCH!!!!"

That one is from Scarface (1983), a cop is talking to Tony. It was a relatively great line from back then but the reason it's not as well-known is because it's actually from the TV edited version, which you don't see often anymore. Originally the line was "eating p*ssy" but they changed it to "eating pineapple". Thanks for reminding me about this one.😀

Thanks, but THAT one I knew.

It's the other I don't know the source of.  Probably because it isn't from a super famous quotable film, just some TV edit of a random flick forgotten to time.  Possibly starring James Woods.

I haven't watched it recently, but Michael J. Fox says "you slug in a ditch" in The Hard Way. I thought this was odd at the time, but its been a long time since I heard it. It is ALSO a very bad TV edit, so its hard to find, but that might help. I wouldn't be surprised if other TV stations did something similar, so James Woods possibly was dubbed saying it too. Die Hard 2 also had a very famous TV edit I remember watching.

That was probably it and I just crossed MJF with James Woods in my mind, since they're both in that movie.  Not that I even remember ever seeing that movie, but I suppose I must have.  I haven't owned a television for over 17 years, so even the most recent thing I ever saw on TV has pretty much passed from my memory.
