The development of Resident Evil 6 was led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi (executive producer), who was stated by Capcom to be aiming to “deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values." It had a development staff of more than 600, making it Capcom's largest production up to that point, and it was meant to mark a new direction for the series. Resident Evil 6 received "mixed or average" reviews according to review aggregator website Metacritic, scoring with critics on PS3 a 74/100 and on Xbox 360 a 67/100, but it was the user reviews that suffered from very low scores. Resident Evil 6 received high scores from several outlets like IGN (7.9), GameTrailers (8.8), and Famitsu (9,9,9,10) but also several 6s and 7s, and a 4.5 from Game Spot.  

Resident Evil 6 is usually considered a big disappointment, even though it has some good qualities. The four campaigns received criticism, with two being good while the other two are painful and even boring to play. Everything can be played in 2-player coop, which removes any sense of survival-horror anymore. A lot of the game tries to be a big-budget action movie, with over-the-top moments that can often be ridiculous, not to mention constant quick time events. Chris’s campaign is just constant shooting and there’s always extra ammo. All four campaigns have a different menu layout and style, which is very distracting. It really feels like they just had way too many ideas and decided to shove as many in as they could. A few things are great, like Leon's campaign, but then some action sequences go on for way too long. There are several bugs that are still in the game, which might stop progress, but there are plenty of checkpoints so you won't lose much progress.

This Resident Evil 6 - Signature Series Guide is a massive 336 pages, full-color, with small text and a lot of content. You get write-ups on all the characters, plus full explanations of all game mechanics and movement options. There are detailed maps with key items labeled; the weapons, the ammo, the herbs, and all the emblems are marked as well. You get strategies for Mercenaries Mode to get good rankings, recommended skills, including full maps with key item locations and the best places to go. It also mentions unlocking and upgrading new skills, and how to get higher ranks. These don't matter as much on the lower difficulties, but upgrading is vital on the harder difficulties. The maps are rather small, this is basically an action game with a linear path, but you will want the boss strategies for help. There are a few times when the game isn't clear on what it wants you to do, so if you’re playing solo then you might have a hard time figuring it out without a guide or some hints. The PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One versions are identical aside from some changes that were made after launch, like being able to play Ada’s campaign in coop, which wasn't available at first. 

Resident Evil 6 had sold 4.9 million units by March 2013 and even though those are very good numbers for the series, Capcom spent so much money on production that they really needed the game to sell 7 million copies by the end of the 2012 fiscal year, which was insane because it was only a period of about 5 months. Capcom said in a statement that the game suffered from poor sales due to various development challenges and "inadequate organisational collaboration" across the company. After release, Capcom admitted it was a huge failure, and they continued to make controversial financial tactics. Street Fighter V (2016) failed to meet its sales target of 2 million, and they outsourced the next Devil May Cry title to Ninja Theory, but it failed to resonate with players. This resulted in Capcom having to rethink the structure of the entire company itself. By 2017, Capcom saw a massive resurgence with a string of hits, and created a much better relationship with other developers and refocused their efforts on listening to players. By 2025, the game has sold around 14 million units across all versions. Thanks to @Rando1975 for the donation.
