Magazine height/width standards

Some of the magazines we have preserved here have a constant width for every page, and other mags have a constant height for every page. So what is the standard to be used for this? Also have we agreed on a minimum width size so that the resolution is not too low?

Constant height is the standard we go by.  Anything made using width as the standard was made by someone who didn't know what they were doing.:)  It isn't just arbitrary - constant height is the only way to assure that the pages will all be displayed at a consistent size in whatever reader is used, especially if being viewed in two-page view mode.

As such, there is no minimum width, but there is a minimum/recommended height of 2200 px high for magazine scans.  Some people go higher (mine are 2500) but there should be no excuse to create a mag smaller than the 2200 requirement, since anyone scanning a mag should be doing so at 300dpi or more, which creates files much larger than is required here.

As for covers in the gallery, there are no minimums, but there is a maximum of 1920px height (it's currently set to something else, but 1920 is supposed to be the max height.)  Uploading covers as close to 1920px high as possible is desirable if high-res scans exist, but if not, smaller pics are acceptable (and can always be replaced later if better scans are made available).

(btw, the gallery max height used to be smaller in the past due to bandwidth concerns, so older pics in the gallery are going to be smaller, but it isn't really a concern)
