Scanning/editing something? List it here!

To avoid duplicating work (and needlessly potentially destroying a magazine), changing the status of several magazines in the database, and checking everyone's Work in Progress thread before starting something, if you are working on a scan or several scans (scanning, editing, or both), list it here. And check here to see if anyone has already started on that issue.

Hopefully this can help us avoid multiple people working on the same issues if we get more people participating. Plus this is a quick way to see who is working on what in one thread instead of having to check several.

Not that these are common, but I have a pile of SWATPro issues on the docket for scanning, as well as single issues of less common magazines.

I think this thread is better suited for when you are going to scan something that is quite common (Nintendo Power, EGM, GamePro), rather than the less common stuff (Game Player's, SWATPRo, Foul, etc)

I think I took care of everything Phillyman put on there apart from the five issues that needs pages rescanned. I can always upload some of my stuff if you want something to edit. I have the following donated flatbed scans available for editing:

Game Player's Sega Genesis Strategy Guide Vol.2 No.5 (October-November 1991)
GamePro Issue 003 (September-October 1989) (replacement scan)
GamePro's Handheld Video Games (Spring 1991)
Mega Play Vol. 2 No. 4 (July-August 1991)
Mega Play Vol. 3 No. 4 (August 1992)
The Adventures of GamePro Issue 1 (June 1990)
The Adventures of GamePro Issue 2 (January 1991)
The Adventures of GamePro Issue 3 (August 1991)

sure anything you can spare im up for it.

I'm uploading the two Mega Play issues  to your folder on the QNAP. I'm also uploading the Photoshop action I use for that flatbed scanner. On my monitor the results look good, but feel free to tweak it to suit your liking.

It's set up so that once you have a page all nice and straight and cropped, you hit the F3 key, and it will save a cropped version, then it will do the colour corrections, resize the picture from 600 dpi to 300 dpi at a height of 3240 (full size), save a JPG copy of that in a folder called Full, then is sizes down to a height of 2200 and saves a JPG copy of that to a folder called 2200. Then it closes the image. I save two versions in case one day we decide to go with full size scans; that way we have a bunch ready to go.

When you're done you can release them, but leave the finished cbz files and all the images in your folder. I will download them and back them up as I normally do, syncing them between my QNAP and the Retromags one.

The uploading might take a while as each scan is a 600DPI TIF file at around 100MB each. The Mega Play issues each have 68 pages and the two above mentioned folders with the proper sized thank you pages in them. If you see all that for one issue that means it should all be uploaded.

Hello, I have a clean copy of Nintendo Power #203 (May 2006) that I am prepared to debind and scan. Is anyone else planning on scanning this issue?

If this goes well, I plan on debinding and scanning Nintendo Power issue #s 209, 210 and 211.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hey all. Not sure if this is the best place to list this or if I should start a separate thread? But here are the magazines I’m working on. I have no real ETAs, since I’m focused mostly on going through my entire collection before submitting for edits (I don’t think I have the toolset/skills for editing). I jumped the gun on some of these by sending the entire magazines through my ADF scanner without checking for scanlines, so I’ll need to redo some of the magazines I’ve completed already.

Most of the older things listed here vary in condition, and several (uh, well, many) are missing pages. But I figure having something is better than nothing, and I don’t mind if they end up not being suitable for the site.

As a side note, I’m interested in trying to find ways to automate detecting scan defects (looking through individual pages is a huge time suck), so check out my thread in Help if you’re interested/already have some knowledge! https://www.retromags.com/forums/topic/11807-automated-detection-tensorflow-of-scanlines-bent-corners-etc/
