Greetings fellow gaming magazine enthusiasts,

I just discovered this excellent effort to preserve many of my cherished childhood memories.  I too have a number of Tips & Tricks magazines not listed and would very much like to try to get them sent your way for preservation.  I live in the American Southwest (New Mexico).  To be perfectly honest, money is a little tight right now but I'll try to figure out a means of sending them.

-  Edit -   Having cut the list  down from what's already in the scanning process (from the VGH Foundation) from 34 issues to just 6 it is suddenly looking a lot more manageable.

I have the following unlisted issues of Tips & Tricks available:

062 April 2000

072 February 2001

099 May 2003

101 July 2003

137 July 2006

140  October 2006

Hi Guys,

Just curious regarding the huge VGH scan, is the goal is to convert the PDF into a CBZ and make the appropriate edit to release them ? If so, I'll be willing to do the Official XBOX Magazine to complete some of the set instead of scanning them.  I figured out there 7 or 8 that I could do.  :)

Thanks,

dablais

Yes, that is the goal. Some of the scans aren't the best, so editing them and turning them into CBZ files is what we are doing. We can always turn the cleaned up and straightened CBZ files back to PDFs that will look nicer if we decide to go that route.

I have been using a free program called PDF Shaper to extract the PDF pages to individual JPG files. It seems faster than having Photoshop do it.

So, bad news, good news, we don't actually have any copies of inCite Video Gaming to scan, but we do have the rest of inCite PC Gaming. I guess I'll grab if just because I'm used to them, unless anyone else wants a crack.  6 and 8 are already uploaded, so that leaves 5, 7, and 9.

Just saw this thread.  I haven't tested the software E-Day mentioned, nor the online tool dablais uses, but I'd caution you to be very careful if you haven't done extensive testing to make sure that they're actually extracting the jpgs "as is" and not doing some form of conversion.  Even Photoshop converts PDF images when extracting jpgs, so what you get out isn't 100% the same as what was put in.  If you know me, you know I HATE this aspect of almost all PDF conversion software.

I've attached a useful tool which I have tested and can guarantee will keep jpgs 100% the same when extracting them from a pdf (please keep in mind this isn't for use on true PDFs, but that is irrelevant here since we're talking about scans.)  It's only a 375kb download.  Just extract the file, then drag the pdf onto the .bat file and it will extract all of the JPGs into an output folder lickety-split.
