Help Me Build A New Computer.....

OK, so I have decided to build a new computer. This will be my first attempt at this so I need some help and suggestions.

I have picked out the processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz

I did some serching for motherboards with "CPU Socket Type - LGA 775" and these 2 looked pretty good but I'm 100% sure,....any better suggestions?

After that I am taking suggestions for video cards ( I haven't done any reserch yet)

Also should I spring for a better cooling system?

What is a good powersupply to use? (I will be using alot of HDs and USB devices)

I am sure I will have more questions before this is over.

It sounds like you're on the right track. I've had my eye on that exact processor. I don't have too many specific recommendations. I switched my video card from ATI to an Nvidia card about a year and a half ago and I can't imagine switching back as Nvidia's support (driver/software updates) is infinitely better that that of ATI.

You can get some detailed performance comparisons at Tom's Hardware.

I'd also make sure to stick with SATA 3Gb/s hard drives as your MOBO is compatible. Unfortunately, I don't think that there are any 10,000 RPM hard drives that use the SATA 3Gb/s interface but that would be the absolute best thing to get as far as hard drive speed is concerned.

How much RAM are you planning to get? I would personally go for about 2GB but you could probably get good enough performance with less at first and then upgrade later.

You know if you just call Dell you can tell em exactly what you want in a computer and they will buld it just for you, I know because I saw it in one of their commercials

lol slink85 is right that would be the easy way to do it, but maybe also the more expensive way

Another option I've been considering is http://www.microexpress.net. They have very reasonable prices for custom PCs with nice features (check out the MicroFlex 66B).

Dell have great prices for reliable workstations, but you can't build it the way you want because they don't offer enough options for most components
