Nintendo Switch 2 - Yea or Nay?

Recommended Posts

So who here has taken the plunge?  :)

I'm a big Nintendo fan, counting the Mario, Zelda and Metroid franchises as probably the reason I still love video games today.  But I'll be waiting a bit before picking up a Switch 2.  I'm not big on kart racers - yes, even Mario Kart - so the pack-in isn't a must-have for me.  That said, I've been looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 for a good while (hasn't everybody?) and the updated Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks great.  Donkey Kong Bonanza looks promising.  So there are definitely some games to play by year's end.

I really dislike the idea of game-key cards though.  They're very pro-business but very anti-consumer imo - neither digital nor physical gamers want them, it seems.  They could be the sword the Switch 2 falls on.  Myself, I'll be picking up 3rd-party stuff for other systems. *

And I wasn't thrilled to hear the joysticks may be prone to drift.  You'd think Nintendo would have considered this a hardware priority.

Still, I imagine I'll be picking one up eventually.

* (For example, the upcoming Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D remake.  I'll be buying the OG Switch version instead of the Switch 2 game-key card release.  Then hope there are some organic performance bumps (frame rate, etc) when I play my Switch cart on a Switch 2.  I wonder how many other physical gamers are planning the same?  Enough for Nintendo's sales numbers to reflect the disdain for game-key cards?  Hopefully.)

I just picked up a WiiU last year to mess around with. Prior to that, the last Nintendo system I bought was a DS Lite circa 2009. If I wind up with a Switch 2, it'll probably be 10-15 years from now. :)

Similar to me. I got my Wii U when the Switch launched, thinking the price would drop (it didn't!) I still had a # of Wii games anyway. I'm very happy with it, but don't plan on picking up a new system anytime soon.

I just can't justify it, plus I'm drowning in other games.  I'm not immune to poor ideas, I just got a Sega Saturn in 2024, but I should probably slow down.

I wasn't ready to let go of 2D gaming when the 32/64 bit generation rolled around, so imo, picking up a Saturn was a great idea.  :)
