What Magazines Have You Got?

E-Day

Recommended Posts

I've got a couple of really old books. One is this ancient black book that is called the Nintendo Entertainment System Players Guide. I also have a few of these spiral bound books that I think are called Videogames: Hints and Tricks that are from the NES days.

evchim, your stuff is extremely rare from what I can discern, can you scan the covers so that we can get a better understanding of what you have? I am almost positive that no one else has any of it too, but a cover scan will help anyone that may be already scanning it.

Personally, I would love to see your stuff available. Scan a few pages and edit them (it is alright if you are not comfortable editing, we can get help with that part) and put them in a zip or something and upload them to rapidshare or something and someone will check them out.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, I looked at the books I have and was a little wrong on the titles. I have:

The Official Nintendo Player's Guide - 1987

Consumer Guide: Strategies for Nintendo Games - 1989

Consumer Guide: More Strategies for Nintendo Games - 1989

And 2 different versions of Nintendo Strategies. Both appear to be almost identical except that one has a white cover/back and bound like a magazine and the other has a red cover/back and is spiral bound.

I don't remember how I ended up with the two different versions of the one guide but I remember thinking it was lame that they had the same stuff in them. Perhaps one was a gift from my mom and the other I had bought myself. Who knows.

Here are the only two Consumer Guide's that we have available here so far (other than yours, I haven't seen any listed as coming either):

http://www.retromags.com/forums/Consumer-G...in-file707.html

http://www.retromags.com/forums/Consumer-G...de-file713.html

The one guide having the same stuff in it was fairly popular to do back in the day, reprinting material (Game Player's did this with their Encyclopedia's) with a different cover. Never heard of doing it with just a simple background color change though (maybe it is a case of one is a first print and the second one is from another print run?).

That other guide, I have never heard of, I am definitely sure it is needed and would be appreciated.

Ok, heres a link to the pic of what I've got, but I uploaded it to my really old site that is no longer going to exist for very long so look at it while it lasts lol.

The line up

Edit so that there aren't so many posts following each other that could be in one:

The two on the left are the clones.

Welcome to Retromags Rew and evchim, do either of you need help scanning or are you looking to lend your mags out for someone to scan for you and return (obviously with such rare material I am sure you would want it back)?

Thanks, triverse. As for me, we have no scanning capabilities at my house, so I was just going to lend my mags and let someone else do the scanning. I wouldn't even need them back if the scanner would like to consider keeping them as compensation for scanning them. (And after all, if they're on this site, what do I need them for myself anymore? Unless I decided to sell them of course...)

Anyway, the sooner someone gives me an address to send them to, the better! :D

So I'm scanning the Official Nintendo Players Guide and its slow going. It's about 165 pages so its pretty thick. It's also bound like a paperback which has made it so I have had to rescan a lot of pages because the edge near the spine is too blurry. That in mind, I'm about 15% done. Also, this is the first time I've ever done anything like this so I'm figuring it out as I go along.

Hey guys,

I've come back after a rather long hiatus from RetroMags, but I'd just like to ask if there were any magazines that needed editing. I've done editing for Philly before, but I see the way things used to be done have changed. I assume I have to ask here to see if anyone has any magazines that need editing. Not scanning, but merely editing the already scanned files.

I wish I had time to scan some of the mags I have, it seems like most of them are here already, though. I'm thinking of selling/giving them away if anyone's interested. I could give them away free if someone just wants to pay the shipping. I think my post with what I have is on this topic somewhere. Hit me up if interested.

I picked up my first issues of Nintendo Power yesterday! I'm incredibly excited to receive my first retro magazines. All I've ordered are issues 20-29. I don't have a scanner, and I imagine they're already on the site. However, I could perhaps use Photoshop to do something. For example if you guys wanted to scan in parts of the Nintendo Power poster inserts, I could photomerge them together using Photoshop.

Lemme know if I can help!

Most people here seem to have EGM's and Nintendo Powers but I am not one of those tongue.gif

Instead, due to my age I have a fair amount of the following

Amiga Format

Atari ST Format

ANTIC [Atari 8-bit era magazines]

Amiga World

Computer Gamer

C & VG

The Games Machine

I also have a small selection of

STart

Atari ST User

Arcade

Several Commodore magazines like ZZap64, Commodore User International

Super Play [uK version I believe]

Edge

Gamers Republic

.... and some I can't remember off hand.
