Well, we all knew it was going to happen and it finally has, Midway has formerly been sold to Warner Bros.  Just how did WB get Mortal Kombat?  Read on, it is kind of sad, the circumstances and how far franchises like Mortal Kombat have fallen.

Looks like the new home of Mortal Kombat, Joust, Spy Hunter and other well-known Midway properties will be Warner Bros. after all. The media conglomerate looks to have won bidding rights to the publisher and developer by default.

According to the LA Times' report on the matter, Warner's $33 million bid for the better portion of the company's assets was the only serious offer. There were no other formal bids.

Yep, Warner Bros got Midway because there were NO OTHER SERIOUS OFFERS!  Isn't that just sad that the company that controls the Mortal Kombat franchise only had ONE serious suitor in this auction?  Really can it be called an auction knowing this now?

I would have liked to have seen Midway go to another game company. After Blizzard was bought by a movie company, they just haven't been quite the same. But, it is a sign of the times. Companies are worried about losses, especially companies that had already recently made purchases prior to the recession. Otherwise, it could have gone two ways. Either Midway would still be around, or there would have been more serious bidding for them.

It couldn't have gone to a better company. Now we will finally get the Mortal Kombat vs. Bugs Bunny and Friends that I've been waiting so many years for.

ZOMG I never thought of that. Taz can Eat Millena... or better yet Sub Zero can take a head spinning shot from Fudd's Shotty.

Oh man...and we can finally answer the age old question...who is faster, the Flash or Speedy Gonzales.

I was wondering who is harder to understand talking, Goro or Porky Pig...

The fatalities would be unbelievable! Of course, WB has the DC license too... Justice League/MK/Bugs Bunny and Friends mashup!

I would probably actually think about playing a WB type game in the Super Smash Brothers style with the amount of characters they now have at their disposal.

Warner Beatdown I (just like Smash Bros.)

Mortal Kombat

DC

Bugs Bunny and Friends (Including the Tiny Toons Versions and of course Yacko Warner and Co.)

THIS I could see myself playing

And the Harry Potter franchise... No, that is too much, I think. Of course, I wonder what this means for their current licensee for games. This should be an interesting next year for games. Or at least 2011. It all depends on when contracts are up for renewal... Hm...

Wow, I never thought of that. Something about Daffy Duck killing Dumbledore just does not sit well with me. Or Kano ripping out Ron's heart (okay some things sit better then others).

Hm... Daffy Duck as Snape... Or even Sub Zero ripping off Hermione's head with the spine attached...

For some reason I feel like the two of us have entered into a dark place. Shang Tsung steals Voldemort's soul.

Not as dark a place as you two have wondered off into, but it would be cool to see a Tiny Toon or something spoof of the Harry Potter movies, wait, I may have wondered a little too far the other way...
