The old Zelda 1 and 2 artwork is spectacular, you're right. I always loved Ninja Gaiden's cinematic style, Megaman's cover art, and you can't beat some of the old paintings done for the covers of Atari and NES games. Joust, PacMan, and Millipede come to mind.

The original Mario + Super Mario Bros. artwork is great. So many.

I think the artwork in Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior is some of the best that I've seen.

I love the work that designer Akiman did with the characters.

They all look so individual and I don't think any other fighting game's characters have as much charm. :)
