I think I heard somewhere that this game has a fair bit of slowdown when there's a lot going on. If it's true it's a pity because it look's really good, judging from the screenshot's in the ad. I haven't played it but I have played R-Type on the Pc engine which is just so good. :)

If you are an R-TYPE fan you owe it to yourself to try this one out. I can't remember if there was any slowdown, that has been many moons ago :)

Super R-Type......wicked hard. I bought the game used from a supermarket that used to rent SNES games out in 2000. Popped it in one morning about 9ish just to see how it looked. 6hrs later we had a three man relay hell bent on beating this game. Thats what its all about.

My lord, you too? *laugh* My brother, myself, and two of our friends spent the better part of a weekend tag-teaming this thing into the ground the year it came out! It was ridiculous!

*huggles*

Super R-Type was the 4th game I acquired for my SNES after receiving the system in September of '91.  I spent a good deal of time playing the game, but I don't remember ever passing farther than the 3rd level without using some sort of cheat code.  I'd try again in my old age, but there just aren't enough hours in the day to devote to tedious video games.

And there was quite a bit of slowdown in this game, but the epic soundtrack did a lot to distract from that issue.  Back in the early 90's I had my SNES hooked up to a pretty decent stereo system and used to record the game audio onto cassette tapes to play in the car...much to my parents' chagrin.

I loved the music to this game. The Cave level drove me nuts with those things that would come at you when you shot them. I also enjoyed the level where you had to destroy/maneuver around a large spacecraft.

What was your favorite power-up? I liked the beams that would shoot out in a parabola. It sort of sounded like a zipper being unzipped when you shot it.
