I would advise caution on low calorie diets. If you eat too little, your body instincts may think you are starving and attempt to store more fat from what you do eat. In other words, eating too little can be counterproductive.

As long as you eat breakfast first thing the morning, your body will be fine. The secret is 4-6 small meals (200-300 calories) all day. Keep that metabolism burning all day :)

I've done the low calorie thing before, both with and without exercise. I made sure to take in some fat every day to ensure that my body did not think it was starving. It worked quite well, though the problem is that when you stop the diet, you end up gaining everything back.

Yep, the key is making lifestyle changes you can maintain in the long run. Losing lots of weight quickly is a sure-fire way to fail. Losing 3-4lbs a month is really the key because you aren't making drastic changes. Making exercise a priority is also important. If you can't find the time to exercise 3-4 times weekly for an hour or so, you'll never be fit.

You mean totaling an hour or so per day, right? I can't imagine exercising 3-4 hours a day, even more most "healthy" people, unless you're more loosely defining "exercise"

I have a simple diet I created, and over the last year I say I lost around 40 Lbs on it. The diet is simple eat a healthy meals, with reasonable portions. Now here in the big secret to why this diet works. If you get hungry eat fruit, as much as you want as long as it fresh fruit or vegetables. It simply fills you up and you loose weight.
