9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors

Recommended Posts

I just beat this gem with all of the endings, and man, what a game! 999 is a visual novel for the Nintendo DS. It's been selling surprisingly well (due to word of mouth). I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more VN type games.

The premise of 999 is that there are 9 people on a boat, and they must go through 9 doors within 9 hours in order to escape (once 9 hours are up, the ship blows up). The story is more complex than that and does flesh out the characters quite a bit, but that is the gist of the story. I don't want to spoil anything as it's good to go into the game fresh (and avoid message boards relating to this game as people have a tendency to spoil the games story/ending). You have the story (which takes up most of the game), and some puzzles scattered throughout. During the course of the story sections, you have choices that you must choose (like those old "choose-your-own" adventure books, where it'll tell you to go to a certain page when selecting a choice)

Cons: The text scroll speed is pretty slow, but you get into the game so much that it's not too noticable. Once you beat the game once, you can replay it for the other endings and you have the option to skip the sections that you've already read through.

Overall, I highly recommend it. It's a definite change of pace in today's gaming (where FPS, sports, and action games seem to dominate).

This game is on my list of games I need to get. It certainly has been getting rave reviews from media outlets and regular players.

This game is freaking phenomenal, and everybody who owns a DS needs to buy it to encourage the developers to port more of these adventures to a non-Japanese audience. You've no idea how many DS games of this sort get released in Japan and never make it to the rest of the world. :)

My brother reviewed this game for the website he writes for, if you want to know even more: http://videogamecowboys.com/?p=1916

Hey everyone,

Check out the sequel, which is called Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. You can even pre-order it now on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Zero-Escape-Virtues-Reward-nintendo-3ds/dp/B007FMSDU0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1339534903&sr=1-1&keywords=virtue's+last+reward

It's coming out on October 24, 2012 and will be available on the Nintendo 3DS and Playstation Vita. The original was the best Nintendo DS adventure game I ever played. It kept me guessing the whole time...the ending was shocking and amazing at the same time! If you haven't bought it yet, grab yourself a copy on Amazon as well: http://www.amazon.com/9-Hours-Persons-Doors-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003VR5PPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1339534998&sr=1-1&keywords=999+9+hours.+9+persons.+9+doors
