Favourite game music?

Recommended Posts

One of the most amazing from the chiptune era HAS to be the Bionic Commando theme (which was so epically redone in the oh-so-disappointing current-gen remake (not Rearmed- that was solid)). And Harry Gregson Williams deserves SO many awards for his work with MGS (specifically Sons of Liberty)!

Final Fantasy III(VI)

These will always be my two favorites, though there are so many others..

I really like Blaster Master's music and sounds. They just always stood out on NES and evoked a feeling of strange organic technology stored deep underground by ancient mutants.

I could literally name hundreds of games, but these three are great.

Oh man, so many good soundtracks. The ones that come to mind immediately are (in no particular order):

- Chrono Trigger (SNES)

- Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES)

- Earthbound (SNES)

- Mega Man 2 (NES)

- Plok (SNES)

- Spyro the Dragon (PS1)

- Super Castlevania IV (SNES)

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

The Super Metroid soundtrack is geniunely creepy in places if you're listening to it in the dark. :)

We won't get into how much money I've spent on video game soundtracks over the years. No, we will not discuss such depressing things as that.

I enjoyed Double Dragon Reloaded by game developer gamejolt in 2015 but they recently added new content and re-named it Double Dragon Reloaded Alternate.  Besides the new attack moves borrowed from the Gameboy Advance version of Double Dragon and the expanded levels, they re-recorded the music with real drums, synthesizer and other instruments.   It reminds me of a high end Roland sound card from 1996.

The soundtrack is available for download on their website along with the game.

The list of games would be pretty big, so I'll list some of the composers I really like.

Yuki Kajiura (Xenosaga 2, Xenosaga 3)
Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Xenosaga)
Motoi Sakuraba (Star Ocean series, Tales series, Valkyrie Profile series, Dark Souls series)
Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms series)
Michiru Yamane (Castlevania series, Skullgirls, Bloodstained)
Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series)

And so many others, but those stand out at the moment.
