U.K. Court: PS2 Not a Computer

A U.K. court of appeals has ruled against Sony after a 5 year legal battle to have the PS2 classified as a computer. While computers have always been exempt from EU import charges, video game consoles have not. Had the court actually ruled that the PS2 is a computer, Sony could have been granted a $63 million rebate on import duties.

DIdn't some Sony exec recently say "the PS3 is a computer"? I wonder if they're trying to do the same thing with the PS3 as they tried with the PS2.

I was just thinking that. There was a thought early on that they would have trouble exporting the PS2 because of its computing power didn't they?

In Sony's defense, the PS3 more closely resembles a computer than a lot of previous VG consoles. I'm curious to know exactly how the U.K.courts define "computer". Is a PDA a computer? What about newer cellphone/pda/mp3 player combos? A few decades ago pocket calculators were probably referred to as "computers".
