My new computer and future upgrades

My aging Core2Duo (Q6600) computer died the other night, so I decided to build a new computer. To be fair, I think the power supply died, but hey...it's a week until my birthday and friends/family were looking for what to buy me.....soo far this has been ordered.....

I'd also say those specs seem a little overkill unless you're running a server in your basement but whatever.

48" of screen? What is that? Dual 24" monitors? 1 x 48" TV?

My recommendation is if you are into PC gaming and it is dual 24" monitors consider going to three 24" as triple screen gaming is stunning for racing sims. I have NFS Hot Pursuit on the Xbox 360 and my PC and I have never gone back to the Xbox 360 version after playing it on my PC with three monitors. Amazing!! I have to say I tried Aliens vs Predator and after a while felt seasick so some games are better suited than others.

If you are primarily looking at non-gaming and want real estate for having multiple windows open then the above still applies.

If you are heavily into watching movies on your PC, play games but don't have the desk space for a triple monitor setup you could look at a Dell U2913WM or AOC Q2963Pm 21:9 monitor. With a resolution of 2560 x 1080 these look great for playback of movies with little to no black borders or having two webpages open side by side. Philips released a TV in this format iirc but for some reason it hasn't taken on which I find somewhat strange considering the number of 2.35:1 movies out there but it has now been discontinued due to a lack of demand.

I actually changed the memory and powersupply......now I will eat a 15% restocking fee :(

Even though I have a 1.5TB and 2.0TB hard drive to accompany the SSD, they are Western Digital Green drives. Which are fine for storage drives, but I am buying the Western Digital 1TB drive for a secondary place to install programs. The SSD will be where Windows is installed, and any important programs that could use a speed boost. But I also wanted to have a drive for installing older games onto like (Diablo 2, Quake 1 and 2, Doom, Myst, GTA 1-3). If I just installed everything onto the SSD, then I would run out of space in no time. So in the end it will be like this....

256 SSD = OS and important programs

1TB Black = Old Games and MyDocument/Desktop locations

2TB Green = Storage

1.5TB Green = Storage

I got the new DVD burner, just because I want my entire PC to be new....and for $17....who cares at that point!

48 inches of screen would be two 24 inch LED monitors. I find myself to be soo much more productive when I have two monitors that I can work off of.

Dunno why you changed the RAM as the previous kit seemed perfectly fine to me. The Corsair PSU was fine for a single GPU setup but I thought a little low spec for SLI but if you never intend going down that path changing it was probably unnecessary.

16GB RAM .... pretty ordinary RAM as I personally don't see much point paying a premium for better RAM)

128GB SSD (Boot)

1TB HDD (Installed Apps/Games & temp storage)

16TB of HDD storage for movies, TV, Game Roms etc (2 x 4TB,1 x 3TB & assorted smaller drives)

3 x Dell Ultrasharp U2412M monitors (1920 x 1200 16:10)

... so similar to your new PC. I do find three monitors is fantastic for watching a movie while editing in Paintshop Pro and having explorer open all at the same time so if you have a video card that supports three-way and a big enough desk then think about getting another monitor. Definitely make sure all the monitors are identical if possible. I used to use different monitors and the bezel/height differences were flippin' annoying
