Request: Missing covers list

Recommended Posts

I didn't miss this anywhere, right? We don't yet have a list of missing covers?

I'm sure I have a lot of covers the database is missing, but it would be great to have a checklist to reference. Also I really wanna win those Sega Challenge newsletters sooooo bad.

As I understand it, Phillyman is planning a new browse option for the database that'll display thumbnails of the covers. This'll probably do the trick, as it'll make it so much easier to browse and see what covers are missing.

Also, dibs on those Sega Challenge newsletters! ;)

I just created two pages to show a list of which covers are still needed. Keep in mind, it only looks to see if a cover has been attached to a record in our database (wiki). That cover may exist in our Gallery, but until that number is entered into the database, it will show as missing.

Working on the UK missing covers list this evening, I ran into a couple of hiccups with two magazines - Amiga Format and Amiga Force. If an admin could take a look?

Amiga Format #78 (December 1995) doesn't have an entry in the dbase, although an Amiga Format issue with matching cover number/date exists. While cover typos do happen on rare occasion, I'm assuming a dbase entry is needed.

The dbase lists 16 issues of Amiga Force. November '92, then Jan. '93 - Mar. '94. But here's a more accurate breakdown based on cover dates, starting with issue #1:

Autumn/Winter 1992

Jan/Feb 1993

Mar 1993

Apr 1993

May 1993

Jun 1993

Jul 1993

Aug 1993

Sep 1993

Oct 1993

Nov 1993

Dec 1993

Christmas 1993

Jan 1994

Feb 1994

Mar 1994

Same number of issues, but if I simply match covers sequentially the cover dates will be out of sync. Is it possible to have these dates changed to match the magazine's schedule? I'll clean up my cover associations afterward.

Thanks all!

Weird Amiga Format was missing issues 51, 52, 74, and 78, but had duplicates of 133, 134, 135 and 136......so something went wrong there :)

Also updated the month/year data for Amiga Force.

Thanks - covers have been updated! :)

I found some additional hiccups when working on the Computer & Video Games UK magazine section. While trying to view some Gallery pages, these won't open in any of my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) - I think because of the hashtag found in each URL:

Covers updated! Also, I checked my collection and Official Sega Saturn Magazine ran monthly from November 1995 until November 1998. I noticed the dbase didn't have date stamps assigned to this title - I hope this helps. :)

Forgot to follow-up on this but I finished auditing the UK missing covers list a month or so ago. Unless some new titles/issues have been added since, covers uploaded pre-2014 have been matched with their respective magazine records. With a couple of exceptions:

Total 64's covers are still in limbo as there are no Total 64 issues in the database. There's a title entry for the magazine but no issues are listed.

The Games Machine has a number of covers in limbo as their cover dates/numbers are out of sync with the cover dates/numbers in the dbase. Looks like the magazine didn't publish for a given month sometime between issue 1 and 11?
