Just a Hello!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone at RetroMags!

I kind of stumbled upon your site searching for old issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly and GamePro among other old gaming magazines--I really have an itch to relive my childhood this weekend and reminisce. I miss those days haha!

So I wanted to drop in and say hello! It's a pleasure to meet you all! Also, how do I go about downloading magazine scans from here? Apologies if that question is in an FAQ or has been answered a million times in the history of the forums--just call me the new guy...

Welcome to RetroMags! :)

We use a user-editable wiki-style for magazines that allows us to list contents, provide cover scans, and (most importantly) download links. :)

See that 'Magazines' tab up top? Click on that guy, find the magazine you're interested in, and click on its name. It'll pull up a list of issues. The issues we have links for will be marked as "Preserved" in the far right column. Click on that issue's info, and you'll see at least one if not more download buttons. Most of the downloads are provided via RapidShare, but we're working on getting mirror links up as well.

Issues marked 'Missing' (such as GamePro #4, for example) are ones we don't have in the archive right now. Doesn't mean we'll never have them, it just means nobody has scanned them.

Issues marked 'Not Allowed' are ones that Retromags will not be hosting for a variety of reasons (Game Informer, for instance, has requested we not archive their magazines, so we don't). Also, we have a rolling cut-off date for when magazines will be acceptable to host. Currently that date is 2004 if the magazine is still being published (PC Gamer, for instance) and 2009 if it's no longer on the stands. This ensures publishers get plenty of time to sell through their stock and we're not providing unfair competition. :)

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Just a correction to what Areala said (that name still always makes me think areola) : the cut off date for defunct magazines is December 2004, and December 1999 for magazines still being published. So said Phillyman on the 15th :)
