According to this ad, the first 10,000 people to purchase a Nintendo 64 system between September 21 and October 31, 1997 qualify to receive "surfing Pikachu" data to download onto their Pokemon Game Boy cartridges.
Interesting that they're promoting a system using a giveaway for a different system, but that's how huge Pokemon was at the time...
