  23. Not sure if I'm just using the search function incorrectly, but the site seems to completely lack Finnish magazines? Such as: - Pelit (major one, been running since 1993 or so) - Mikrobitti (first published since 1984, still running but has became much more mainstream -- and uninteresting -- after 2003) - Printti (one of the oldest, and already archived over at https://www.flickr.com/photos/pelittaako/collections/72157650727960712/ ) - C=Lehti (archived fully on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/c-lehti ) - Enter (Mainstream, never bought this myself, but it ran from 2000 to 2006.) - Kompuutteri Kaikille (Was renamed to Kotimikro in 2004, still running. Started as a hybrid gaming/software/hardware magazine, but has become focused mostly on hardware over the years.) - Micropost (hobbyist magazine 1983-1985, very low print numbers. Never seen a copy of it myself.) - MSX Uutiset (hobbyist MSX magazine; first issue is on Internet Archive - https://archive.org/details/MSXUutiset11987 ) There's also a couple of 'magazines' published by game stores: - Com Club (little known monochrome publication by long-defunct Com 2001 game store, included the catalog of the store but also game reviews, news, etc. Here's one scan from Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/comclub199303 ) - Trioposti (published by Triosoft game store, who are still active. Started as a small leaflet, became magazine-sized over the years, full of reviews, and ran for a couple of years during the golden age) Not quite sure if the last two fit the scope of this site, but the rest do. Is there any particular reason why they're excluded, or is it just because of lack of contributors? I could upload some covers for the gallery at least, if the entries were added. By the way, one modern Finnish magazine worth mentioning is Skrolli - https://skrolli.fi/en/. It covers wide range of topics, including retro gaming and computers. Too fresh to be included in this database, but I suspect that some folks here might be interested in it. It's made for (and by) hobbyists, most of whom have been gaming since 80s or earlier.

  31. This is the first official spin-off from GameFan that received a separate publication, and it seemed to last for only 3 issues. Dave Halverson was the Editor-in-Chief for the first issue, and he insisted that "MegaFan is a completely new concept." The mag focuses on four categories: strategies, tips and tricks, behind the scenes/interviews, and arcade. Look at my comment for Issue #1 for a few more details. If you loved GameFan then SOME of the names are still recognizable -- David S.J. Hodgson is the Editor-in-Chief for this issue. You got Greg Rau, Nick Des Barres, Ryan Lockhart, Jody Seltzer, Jay Puryear and a few more. Terry Wolfinger doesn't return for the artwork, and Hodgson mentions in the editorial that a whole new team worked on this issue. We don't have much info about this publication aside from possibly what some former members have mentioned in forums from a while back (I'm still searching through them:). We do know that sales were low, with multiple months in-between releases. EGM2 and Tips and Tricks did a much better job back in the day. This second issue is a full-sized magazine now, with 116 pages. The Arcade section is gone. Tekken 3 has a strategy section, along with Street Fighter III, Fighters Megamix, with moves lists and some combos. Powerstone has some tips. Suikoden has a write up on all 108-characters, and Wild Arms has some nice maps. Super Mario Kart and StarFox 64 get some coverage too. This issue holds up well, but there's not much that stands out from the several other mags that featured strategies and tips at the time. The Tekken 3 coverage is solid, but once again, several places have hard-to-read text. The colors use in the Suikoden write-up section look messy, and the Powerstone text is very thin. Thanks for making this available -- these issues are rare to find.

  32. I don't want to say that BAFTA has no business declaring the most iconic video game character of all time with their "worldwide" poll of "over 4000 gamers," so I'll let their list say it for me. Lara Croft, Tomb Raider Mario, Super Mario Agent 47, Hitman Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog Sackboy, LittleBigPlanet Pac-Man, Pac-Man Link, The Legend of Zelda Master Chief, Halo Kratos, God of War Shadowheart, Baldur’s Gate 3 Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2 Pikachu, Pokémon Steve, Minecraft Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy VII Astarion, Baldur’s Gate 3 Kazuma Kiryu, Yakuza Ellie Williams, The Last of Us Nathan Drake, Uncharted OK. Lara is pretty well known in many places (not Japan), but more iconic than Mario? Please. And #3 is generic bald guy Agent 47? Does your mom know who Agent 47 is? No, of course not - he's not iconic. Pac-Man? Iconic. Pikachu? Iconic. SACKBOY? Not iconic. This list is wickety wack, y'all. Stick to films, BAFTA.

  38. Oh my gosh, I remember both that letter and the Cloud In His Undies artwork that showed up a couple of months later! That's freakin' HILARIOUS! Good on you for making her wish come true! For anyone else wanting to check this out, the letter appeared in EGM #100, page 16, written by someone using the pseudonym "Terra" from Springfield, MA. EGM's response was that after all the controversy surrounding them publishing the info about the Nude Raider website, they couldn't possibly show such a thing. The responses came in issue 102, on page 12, first with a letter from "Celes" excoriating EGM for printing a picture of Lara in a bikini on the page immediately following "Terra"'s letter (in EGM's defense, that was an ad, not internal artwork or a reader-submitted piece) and asking for said Cloud in Undies picture. Right below that is @Liquidd's letter and artwork. As another amusing aside, the letter just below that is about the secret message EGM ran in issue #100 about GamePro. The response from the editor tells readers to keep an eye out for other hidden messages from EGM, because sometimes they just throw one in there for the heck of it. Which they actually did right there, since the first letter of each sentence spells out the word 'THANKS'. Cheeky buggers... *huggles* Areala
