(New tricks, cheats and goodies for the Super NES and Genesis versions, including the infamous Fergality...bwa ha ha!) Tip Collection (Cheats, hints and tips for a huge swath of Genesis, SNES, Game Gear, Game Boy, 3DO, Arcade and CD-i games) Strategies: Panic! (Sega CD) written by Zach Meston Battletech (GEN) written by Zach Meston C2: Judgement Clay (SNES/GEN) moves list and secret characters Alien vs. Predator (JAG) written by Zach Meston Way of the Warrior (3DO) written by Zach Meston Notable Stuff: Tips & Tricks goes from being a quarterly publication to a subscription-ready standard magazine starting with this issue. Know what sells magazines in the mid-90's? Fighting games. Mortal Kombat II gets its third cover feature with this issue. T&T has teamed up with Video Games magazine to offer some guides for great games. Many of these are written by Zach Meston, one of the premiere gaming strategists and guide-mongers of the decade. The Readers' Tips section includes a huge list of hidden games within games. If you want more bang for your buck, try tracking some of these guys down. Is it censorship? T&T runs a black bar over the boob joke sprite in Panic! (SCD) when it's enlarged for the title page, but leaves the actual game screen showing it on the bottom of page 26 un-retouched. The Alien vs. Predator guide is top-notch, explaining game mechanics, offering little hints for survival, providing a suggested order of attack for the Marine scenario, disclosing the location of all the weapons, and printing basic maps for every level, sub-level and airduct in the game. No matter which faction you favour, this guide is insanely useful. That Way of the Warrior guide did more to make that game attractive than anything else we've ever seen. While the game itself is nothing special, and certainly no Mortal Kombat killer, it's very enticing with its behind-the-scenes look at development, the stories behind the actors portraying all the characters, and other goodies. Pity the game's not as good as T&T makes it look.

How strange... People are happy to see the 'Hard Core' section go, sad to see the 'Hard Core' section go, and beg for the return of Betty's column. There is no pleasing everyone. The Token of the Month is from The Gravel Pit Family Entertainment Center in Batavia, New York and sent in my Nick Zmuda of Stafford. T&T has published full strategy guides for games that have never been released...how's that for embarrassing? Both Army Men: Sarge's War and Thrill Kill have suffered this fate. The Reader Art Gallery runs along the bottom pages of PlayStation tips and Game Boy Advance tips sections. Back cover has an ad for Dino Crisis 3 (XBOX). Has any franchise ever been so wastefully thrown away as this once-promising PlayStation survival horror one was?

Seriously, EGM? We'd expect that from a LamePro entry, not the same magazine that pulled the Sheng Long gag or had us convinced you could play as Simon Belmont in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game. Typographical errors aren't April Fools jokes, they're editorial mistakes. Daniel Eshleman's "What If..." entry did not age well. "What if Super Bomberman got loose in the World Trade Center?" Jeezus, man... Despite being only #8 on the Reader's Top Ten list, Super Metroid is the best-selling game on the SNES according to Babbage's sales numbers. Why did Konami design Sparkster, the sequel to the Genesis-only Rocket Knight Adventures, for the Super Nintendo? The winners of the October '93 EA/3DO contest are printed on page 186.

It was submitted by Dane Genther of Wayland, Michigan. So Tips & Tricks is publishing food reviews now via their Readers' Tips section? Okayyyyy... The Real Bout Fatal Fury Special guide is about as complete as you could want. Neo-Geo enthusiasts, you want this issue. Where does that Super Mario Bros. manga panel on the bottom of page 53 come from? There are so many games listed in the respective Tips sections of the magazine that we've chosen not to index them at this time. It makes reading the index itself so much easier... Letter From Betty is one of the weirdest and coolest features in a gaming magazine. Betty Hallock, we love you! The magazine must have been subsisting almost entirely on subscription and newsstand sales. There are only three ads in the entire magazine, not counting their own subscription offer. Either ad space was so expensive that nobody was buying in, or T&T ran so lean and mean that they didn't need to court advertisers. Compare that to other contemporary mags, some of which used 45% of their page count on ads, and you can see just how bonkers this is.

Wataru Maruyama has stepped into the Executive Editor role. Very few ads in this issue compared to previous ones. Sandra Chang gets to model a heck of a lot of different gear for this issue. T&T wonders why Sega of America gives credit to a bunch of American bug testers for creating Fighting Vipers, despite the fact it was created entirely in Japan. Yeah, good question. What's up with that, Sega? Letter From Betty is such a cute feature.

Winners of the Excellent Nintendo Sweepstakes take home a full compliment of Activision-published NES carts: The Three Stooges, Stealth ATF., Predator, Ghostbusters, and Super Pitfall. Apparently losing this contest was the only way to win it. The incorrect passwords for The Goonies II and Metroid which were printed last issue are corrected in this one. The editor promises more Sega "coveage" in a response to letters requesting it. Proofreaders? We don't need no stinkin' proofreaders... Last issue, a subscription to GamePro cost $19 per year, a savings of roughly 10% off the $3.50 cover price. If you bought in at that price, you're a sucker because in this issue, a subscription only costs $13.97 per year, while the cover price has gone up to $3.95. Looks like that sweet ad revenue is flowing in! "The Adventures of GamePro"'s conceit basically rips off 1984's The Last Starfighter, right down to the video game mastering protagonist being named 'Alex' in both. Who's bright idea was it to run the screenshot of the Metroid password in S.W.A.T. right across the gutter fold?

This one is no exception. I get that advertising pays the bills around the office, but come on! The ad for Forsaken is a racier version of the one which ran in console magazines of the time. According to "Bookmark This!", there once was a Diablo II fan-site run by a fellow using the handle 'Poop'. Today, it no longer exists. Part of me is fine with this. PC Games helpfully provides the Quake II Eraser bot install on their CD-ROM. Easiest way to commit digital suicide yet!
