Also the gavas bucks page was missing, so he provided a scan of that page to make the mag complete. For anyone who missed it in my forum thread, Gavas were a big scam run by Famitsu to trick kids into thinking they could win fabulous prizes by buying every issue of Famitsu that hit the stands. Below is a closer look at just how impossible getting those prizes actually was. Listed are the prize, the amount of Gavas needed to win the prize, the number of Famitsu issues you would need to purchase in order to have enough Gavas, and approximately how much that many issues of Famitsu would cost. These are all in 1988 dollars, so it would be much more today. As of May 1988 (these are not all of the prizes, btw): A Famitsu Pencil Case - 780 Gavas - 49 issues - approx. $195 A Famitsu T-Shirt - 1680 Gavas - 105 issues - approx. $420 A Famicom Game - 2900 Gavas - 182 issues - approx. $728 A Famicom System - 9800 Gavas - 613 issues - approx. $2,452 A Sega Master System - 11200 Gavas - 700 issues - approx. $2,800 A PC Engine (TurboGrafx16) System - 16500 Gavas - 1,032 issues - approx. $4,128 It should also be worth noting that Famitsu was bi-weekly at this point. So assuming you really wanted that PC Engine and you bought one copy of every issue that hit the stands, you would expect to finally have enough Gavas approximately... 38 years later. So...sometime in 2026. Of course, Famitsu eventually went weekly, of course, so you actually would have been able to finally get that PC Engine sometime in 2009. Well, except that PC Engines had long since ceased production by then. *This scan was made for everyone, so please download it, share it with your friends and enjoy! The G's stands for "girls" and that's just what you'll get. No Mario or Solid Snake in these pages, just lots and lots of bishoujo games, pretty much none of which were ever released outside of Japan. But that's what makes it interesting, hey?

The Nintendo Power section is finally complete (sort of). Member nodoubt provided the last dozen or so issues that were needed. He had scanned them (and all his NP magazines), for his own collection, debinding with scissors and running them through an auto-document feeder. Because of this, some pages start off straight but end up slightly crooked at the bottom, some have the corners folded in, and some were too "damaged" or rough to be edited to correct everything. Overall the scans are very good, and every issue from 1988 to 1999 are there. Eventually I will re-scan the issues that I have on hand (issues 111, 113, 118, 119, 121, 122, 123, 125 and 127) and replace the existing scans with the new ones. And if anyone has any existing issues and they want to replace a currently scanned issue with a new scan, you are free to do so. Just make sure it's better than what is already there . So a big thanks to nodoubt for the scans, and to me for the editing! Download issues here

So I decided to help get our EGM collection complete, I acquired a lot of stuff and sent a lot to E-Day. But I am going to try and scan some of this stuff myself. And try my hand at editing. I purchased a Canon LiDE 220 scanner. It doesn't have a huge bed. But big enough for magazines.mbut it outputs excellent color and is fast. Uses LED lamp so no warmup times. My first issue I'm scanning is EGM 07 the Top Score issue with the codes. I've completed scanning. Now on to editing. I've messed around a it and found straightening and cropping to be pretty fast. And the clone stamp has been working well for fixing blemishes. The colors came out so good I'm not sure if I'll have to color correct much if at all. I'll probrably go through and crop and fix blemishes and straighten first. Then I'll post some images here to get some opinions on color correction options and contrast adjustments before app, using them. Any advice on photoshop corrections would be appreciated ahead of time to get me started. Or just wait till I post some screenshots and give me some feed back. I'm scanning in 500 dpi because it's fairly quick with this scanner. When I'm done editing I plan to resize the images to 1600 pixels wide. Is this still a good standard to use. Should I do more or less. Files sizes maybe could get bigger with the times. But let me know what the site still reccomend and I'll go with that.

You really think we don't have game mags?))) I agreed, almost all of early materials were translated from UK magazines, but later... Later we have not so bad gaming journalists with original look at the games.

Hi guys My name's Chris Scullion and I worked on the Official Nintendo Magazine (the UK equivalent of Nintendo Power) between 2006 and 2012 (from issue 5 to issue 84). I also worked on the Computer & Video Games website for the last two years it existed (and am delighted to see most of its old magazine issues are on here). Though I was at ONM for six years, the magazine continued for another couple of years after I left until Future Publishing sadly brought it to an end. I no longer have my many issues of ONM, but I note that the first few issues are now marked as 'safe' for Retromags so I'm looking forward to someone hopefully scanning them soon and re-preserving the history of this wonderful magazine (and, on a selfish level, ensuring my six years of hard work exists and is available to read once again!). I now have my own site called Tired Old Hack where I occasionally talk about my time at Official Nintendo Magazine. I once posted this article listing the 100 best/worst headline jokes I wrote when I was there: https://tiredoldhack.com/2017/01/06/my-100-best-and-worst-onm-headline-jokes/ That's all I had to say, really. Keep up the great work here guys! Chris
