Sega Challenge Issue 3

ISSUE: 3Content

Scan updated August 24, 2019

Sega Challenge is similar to the Nintendo Fun Club newsletter, a small, full-colour, bulk-rate publication mailed free to Sega customers who registered their stuff. No ads, unless you count the whole thing basically being an ad for Sega's own gaming merchandise.

  • Sega Mail Bag (Letters from the readers)
  • Sega Spotlight (Meet the folks who answer the 1-800-USA-SEGA phone line)
  • Sega Challenge Scoreboard (The top 5 reader-submitted scores for After Burner (SMS). Next issue: Wonder Boy in Monster Land (SMS)!)
  • Sega Software Checklist (In case you're away from your collection and need to know what you have RIGHT NOW)
  • Tech Talk (The Sega Sports Pad trackball controller takes center stage)
  • Challenge the Sega Master (Readers questions about strategy for specific games answered)
  • Sega Accessories order form (For those who prefer their goods branded with Sega)
  • Contest (Draw your favorite Sega game, win a collection of Shinobi swag including a shirt, cap, and athletic bag)

  • Shinobi (SMS)

Advice From the Experts (strategy and tactics):

  • Monopoly (SMS)
  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land (SMS)
  • Miracle Warriors (SMS)

Tips From the Team (reader-submitted cheats and tips)

  • Space Harrier (SMS)
  • Zillion (SMS)
  • Rocky (SMS)
  • Zaxxon 3-D (SMS)
  • Quartet (SMS)
  • After Burner (SMS)
  • Choplifter (SMS)
  • Aztec Adventure (SMS)
  • My Hero (SMS)

Coming Soon:

  • Kenseiden (SMS)
  • Spy vs. Spy (SMS)
  • Shanghai (SMS)
  • Phantasy Star (SMS)

Notable Stuff:

  • The staff have problems deciphering handwriting, as they emphasize entries to contests and reader submissions must be printed and not written.
  • Are you submitting artwork for a contest? Did you fold it? You must NEVER fold your artwork. You fool.
  • You can sign four of your friends up for the Sega Challenge newsletter absolutely free using the enclosed order form.
  • Everyone who works in the Sega Customer Service Department is female. Who says women don't play video games again?
