  1. It's not gaming, but I'd love so very very much (like I already said in a seperate topic) to have available somewhere all the archived issues of SPORT and Highlights for Children...as well as being able to read the encyclopedia yearbooks from World Book, Brittanica, etc
  2. **Techinically this forum is called "Magazine Talk", not "Video Game Magazine Talk" so would this still count under Magazine Talk?** Anyway I think it is so awesome that this website has archives of major video game magazines and of course I know of a few other places that also do archives of their magazines, such as National Geographic, Sports Illustrated (including the swimsuit issues; hee hee), and even newspapers.com even has an over 100+ year archive of my own local newspaper! All that being said, there are some other magazines and other resources that'd be really amazing if they could be archived in the same way as the above and on here where we can easily read them on our computer...here's a few I'd love to see if someone hasn't done this already... * World Book, Britannica, and other encyclopedia yearbooks * Highlights for Children * SPORT magazine (my grandpa used to get this during its last several years)...for those who are confused this was a monthly as opposed to SI being a weekly Now obviously these aren't the kind of publications a place like this would do but surely there must be other website and such out there that do this sort of thing? If so where are they?
  3. Yeah who could forget that dickwad asshole Goofus and that goody-goody suck up Gallant?
  4. If anyone could do the Highlights for Children magazine that'd be so so awesome.
  5. You can find my thoughts on this in more detail at Nintendo Age. But yes I too most definitely must have actual cartridges/discs because like my baseball/football/basketball card collection and UK books and Peanuts books and so on, they are collecting hobbies to me. And no offense but a list of downloaded files is not a collection. And with the downloaded games (especially on what I consider the "bush leagues" of gaming, touchscreen tablet/phone games) they could just go "poof" and disappear as soon as the company no longer "feels like" hosting them for download. Whereas discs/cartridges will always be there..they don't just magically disappear. Also, I remember a few years ago I gave my wife the complete set (at the time) of her favorite singer Carrie Underwood's albums on actual CDs. And of course she was excited/happy to receive them...but how would it be if all she found in the package was slips of paper with download codes? I know there are those who insist download only is inevitable and that I shouldn't be such a fuddy duddy traditionalist. But screw it, I have to be able to collect games too and be able to have them proudly displayed on my shelf.
  6. I was at the heart of the sixth gen when I was in college (early 2000s) and I can't believe it's already considered retro. :(
  7. I do think those extra chapters or whatnot they included in the PSP version of FF4 does look interesting...I'm tempted to get a PSP just for that (and I like how unlike the DS you can play PSP games on the TV with a special hookup).
  8. I forget are they doing a remake of FF9 or not? I don't yet have a PS3 (much less a PS4!) but of the trilogy of PS1 FF's, FF9 is by far my favorite (even if FF7 (and in the SNES's case FF6) is the one that gets all the attention). I wouldn't mind seeing what they could do with that one in terms of remaking/upgrading it! Then again I do have a WiiU and they did do WiiU remakes/upgrades for Zelda Wind Waker and soon Twilight Princess...I'm not sure if I should bother with those though, aren't the GC versions good enough?
  9. Once again burning that midnight/3AM whatever oil! How far does this magazine go anyway? I remember seeing a few late 90s issues but I had no idea it made it to at least the end of 2001.
  10. You guys sure are closing the gaps in the EGM collection aren't ya? I hope the 2000s decade Nintendo Powers will soon follow!
  11. I was hoping you guys would do that! Now we just need all those 2000-2004 Nintendo Power issues up...
  12. If Sony and especially M$ also try this whole "no used games stunt", then Nintendo will already win the 8th gen console war before it even starts. So it looks like the "not a real 8th gen console that has the funny college name" may end up having the last laugh.
  13. Forgive me if this has already been asked but in light of NP retiring and it now being late 2012, is now the right time to push ahead the cutoff year? I'd love to have at least the 2000-2005 NP's so the GBA and GameCube eras are covered, though for that you might also need 2006....
  14. Hi, I think RetroMags does outstanding work and it's great to be able to read these classic magazines. That being said, is there anyway someone could upload the PDF format Nintendo Power issues #12 and #79? They got all the others up to at least #110 and it would be fantastic to be able to read the whole set up to at least that point. Thanks!
  15. I am absolutely pleased as punch that other than the four listed, RetroMags has all Nintendo Powers from 1-110. That being said, does anyone here have Nintendo Power issues 12, 79, 90, and 92 in PDF format to complete the set? They're not available in PDF format; perhaps Phillyman or someone else did scan them but just overlooked putting them up on the website? 12 would be especially appreciated as that should have me and us covered for all the NES and most of the SNES era at least. I still hope to someday get a set of Nintendo Powers from 1-100 for real though; it's just so hard to find a complete set on Ebay...
  16. I thought phillyman was in charge here?
  17. There were exactly thirty "black box" games: 10 Yard Fight Balloon Fight Baseball Clu Clu Land Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Jr Donkey Kong 3 Donkey Kong Jr Math) Duck Hunt Excitebike Golf Gumshoe Gyromite Hogan's Alley Ice Climber Kung Fu Mach Rider Mario Bros Pinball Popeye Pro Wrestling Slalom Soccer Stack Up Super Mario Bros Tennis Urban Champion Volleyball Wild Gunman Wrecking Crew
  18. Absolutely, I couldn't have grown up in a better era. To be right in the middle of the 16-bit console wars was awesome, though it seemed like I was in the minority as it seemed like most wanted a Genesis but I was a Nintendo fanboy through and through. Genesis vs. SNES; it was like Democrat or Republican; you were either one or the other, not both (unless you and your parents were REALLY rich). Though I got my first console for my 10th birthday, an NES, back in 1990. I remember how desperately I wanted a SNES for Christmas as soon as I saw that first commerical (the one for Super Mario World that had 16 "A little bit..."'s); I wanted to play with SUPER Power! But my parents insisted that "I already had a Nintendo". But my persistence paid off; I did indeed get that Super Nintendo--three years later. But the wait was well worth it; it was the very best video game console package ever created; two controllers and Super Mario World AND All-Stars! I got FIVE games in one! And again it was quite late, but I got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas in 2000! Though I twice made the mistake of selling my classic consoles (thinking computer and later Wii Virtual Console emulation would be good enough), my wife helped me get back into classic gaming last Christmas, and with my usual dealer being able to put in fresh battery backups in all my games, there's just no excuse now for settling for anything less than the real deal. Screw emulation. I definitely feel bad for the young people today; I know they got those almost photorealistic looking games and games where you wave a remote/numchuk around, but can they ever appreciate the classics? I sure hope at least some can.
  19. I know you guys probably get messages like these a million gazillion times but I just wanted to take the time and say how much I appreciate you guys providing the magazines on here, especially my favorite, Nintendo Power (especially issues 1-100; their Golden Age IMO). I know it takes a LOT of work to scan all those magazines and really make them look neat and professional. Although I still hope to someday get the real deal (good luck finding anywhere close to a full set on Ebay!), I figure the NP's on here are the next best thing. Keep up the good work fellas!
  20. As all of you know, RetroMags is trying to keep the copyright enforcers away by having the "no 21st century stuff" rule. That is, they (and us) hope that as long as we're only posting stuff that there is no chance of the companies making money off of (though if Nintendo ever released a DVD set of all the Nintendo Powers like Mad Magazine did for their publication I'd be the first in line to buy it!), then we will most likely be left alone. But I'm curious as to if any of the gaming magazines have actually formally given their blessing to post the old magazines? For example, at www.rockman-exe.com, the webmistress said that Capcom actually wrote her and said they have no problem at all with posting stuff about the original Japanese anime and gave Capcom her thanks for doing so. I also think www.mmhp.net is done with Capcom's blessing as well.
  21. Hi everyone, I'm Estil, a long time veteran of GameFAQs (since 2001; check out my guides there as well) and I'm also on the AtariAge and NintendoAge forums. I just can't get over how awesome it is to find all those Nintendo Power magazines here! You guys are doing tremendous work here and I appreciate it so very much.
