  1. No, this is exactly why you go underground because of COURSE they don't want you to do it. Huh? Wow.

  4. Uggh! I just downloaded the E-Book of http://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Games-Insider-History-Influential/dp/0240811461/ There are screenshots of Grand Theft Auto 3 in there that have the wrong aspect ratio. So lazy. It's like he just googled some screenshots and pasted them in. A lot of the scans of boxes are different brightnesses which also make it look amateurishly copied from google and ugly.
  5. Man, this is a really good scan. I love seeing these old magazine. On page 10, the guy drawing raccoon Mario is using Deluxe Paint - a friend of mine used it for Doom mods.
  6. Next Generation Issues 06, 07, 09 and 26 are out! This means Retromags.com now has the first full year of this magazine! They've been submitted officially but have not yet been approve so here they are. 7. Don't you think that before databases showing the contents of magazines that we have a database of WHAT magazines we have and what pages are missing so we can fill those holes? If I stumbled across this site and I happened to own many magazines, what would be an easy way for me to find missing pages for issues that I could fill? I'm looking at the Wiki page and I'm not seeing anything clear or current.
  8. Imagine if there was a small tool you could download from Retromags.com that will check the MD5 checksum of your files against the official Retromags.com database that will allow you to easily rename your files to the official standards, or find out what you're missing, or find out what pages of what issues are missing all easily within 1 small application? This is one of the ideas I've been wanting to speak with E-Day over the phone about. It's one of many ideas I've had for this site but there's a huge problem: there are no accepted standards of magazine preservation. Retromags.com could be the leader of magazine preservation but it's being held back by emotions and fighting and arguing. There is a lot to discuss if the real goal of this website is preservation as stated in the Thank-You pages (x-x-retromags1600-x-x.jpg). One of the issues right now is should we care who scanned it? Should we care what the source is? Triverse is one of those who thinks that matters. I don't. As long as the scan meets all of the standards, I don't see how the source matters at all. I've been doing research on digital preservation in general and the idea of source and credit and who scanned and edited what never seems to come up. I think the Project Tracker needs to be deleted and in place of it, something like CLRMame Pro. I don't think it'd be too difficult to create and you don't need to host everything on this site, just a standard, accepted database that's current. That would be incredible for collectors and incredible for preservation period.
  9. I like how this is everyone's suggestion all of the time. We don't WANT more fragmented content, we want a conclusion of magazine preservation because with the 2000 limit, it IS possible. Don't tell your community to make more websites unless you really don't care about people destroying more physical magazines not knowing that there's already a really good scan available. That makes you more of a monster than me, because I'd never WASTE people's time, money and efforts. If you were intellectually honest, you'd know the people don't come here for the community, they come for the content, and despite your own community donating, you're effectively blocking those efforts right now and in front of everybody. They deserve these magazines because they DONATED THEM. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance and as you've seen over the years, scanners tend to be hard-headed. I'm only hard-headed in terms of being absolutely bamboozled why no one wants to talk about the steps we need to take to make this whole project better when in the nearly 3 hours I spoke with Triverse over the phone, there was still much to discuss and I'm not going to write a BOOK on some forums to do it as you suggest.
  10. Next Generation 009 September 1995 is out! (Corrected version as requested by E-Day) Well, not actually. It's ready to go, but gee, I sure would like my ban removed so I can submit it to Retromags more professionally. I have every issue from 1995 to 2000 (100%) ready to be scanned and put up here to complete this collection so nobody has to ever debind or look for missing issues on eBay again but I'm having difficulty. If you want to see the rest of the scans on the site, please make an appeal to E-Day. Squarepusher, who is also a contributor here, is currently debinding and rescanning his issues of Edge (UK version of Next Generation) but he is also banned. If we wish to conclude the preservation of these magazines, the banning needs to end. No one should have the power to jeapordize what the community receives on this website merely by opening their yam holes.
