  1. Well, I don't think I'll be able to help out that much.

If I keep it at more than 40%, my system sounds like it's working overtime and simply doesn't slow down at all.

I just don't want to blow up my processor or anything.

I'll keep it running out of principle, but I guess I won't be able to make much of a difference.

    *edit*

The weird part is that it doesn't seem to matter if I put the CPU usage percentage on 10 or 100%, the meter keeps turning at the same rate.

Perhaps this depends on what kind of processor is used? Anyhow, at least the end date of the first WU isn't 104 days any more, but instead 9 days. So I can live with that. :D

  2. Yep, I'm certainly picking it up on day one. (Whenever that may be over here)

Loved the original Blue, but as far as I can remember, I didn't actually finish it. Came pretty close though.

Picked up Gold on GBC and Ruby on the GBA, but even though whenever I start these games I remember why I loved the original Pok?mon so much, I never get much further than an hour of 10-15.

The problem is that these games seem to consume me, but at the same time I simply buy too many other releases and thus get sidetracked by those and forget to go back to Pok?mon.

When I decide to go back to it, I have no idea about where I was or what I was suposed to be doing next, so I give up. :(

So this time I plan to not let this happen again. :D

  3. Before I actually get to work I've been playing around with this tutorial to see how I should continue.

The scans I've done so far were simply cropped and then resized to a width of 1280. Never thought about using the Brightness/Contrast options or anything. Nor using the bucket fill tool to clear up the white parts of a page.

Would it be possible to still correct the scans I already have using this technique or would I have to rescan everything? (Not really looking forward to this if that's the case. :( )

What I also found out is that I find the colours to be much better when I perform the first 10% increase in brightness and contrast, but when I do it the 2nd time for 20%, the colours in my scans don't resemble the magazine originals any more.

Would it be acceptable to only use the 10% increase?

I have also scanned my previous magazines in 300dpi and when resizing I kept them at 300dpi, since I noticed that when I converted them to 150 the quality dropped off significantly, especially on pages with lots of colour.

And keeping them at 300dpi didn't seem to increase the size of the scans to much.

  4. Aww man, I want slim DS9 boxes! I hope that we get them stateside!

Well, if the TNG boxes came out in slim packs over there, then you can be pretty sure that DS9 will follow suit with the 40th anniversary of Star Trek and everything.

Voyager and the original series are also planned to be re-released at the end of this year over here, but those could easily slip into 2008.

These slim pack sure look nice though:

  5. Yeah, the weird thing is that when I look at the US DVD releases, you guys are only up to Married With Children Season 6, while over here they just released Season 10 last week!

Looks like there's at least one good thing about living in Belgium.

BTW the first 2 boxes of Deep Space 9 (slim case version) are coming out in just over 2 weeks. Can't wait!

  6. Lately I haven't been watching anything except Lost, 24 and WWE Wrestling

All of which I need to download because I either don't want to wait over a year to be able to view my favourite series legitimately. And in the case of wrestling, because I wouldn't be able to watch it at all.

Loved both seasons of Sleeper Cell as well.

And on DVD I'm now watching Married With Children, Star Trek TNG and V (1984).

  7. Well I think a good start would be to just make a topic where you actually ask for help and where members can offer their services if they seem interested...

Like I said before, I didn't even know you were looking for more people to help out.

The one thing I'm not very good at I have to say is seeding torrents... Where I live the ISP's seem to still be living in the stone-age. I have a hard enough time to try and keep my UG ratio halfway decent. ;)

But on the other hand if you really do want me to help out with cleaning up and resizing scans, let me know.

I wouldn't offer to help out if I wasn't honestly interested in doing this.

I love old game magazines and want to collect as many as I can find, well at least the ones that interest me. (no C64, spectrum and stuff like that)

What I'm wondering though is how strict your editing guidelines are.

Perhaps you could grab one of my Sega Saturn Magazines over at UG and see if they are up to the standard you desire.

I try to clean them up as good as I can, which most of the time works out pretty well. But I'm just unsure what you desire.

Like, when I scan my magazines, I leave the side of the page that is binded mostly like it is, except for tears and other stuff.

That way it retains that magazine look even though it's digitized. Don't know if you like that or not....

You could always send me a couple of test pages, let me do my thing and then see what you like and dislike.

Just let me know what you think. ;)

  8. As far as the forum being dead, dont just complain about it. Give me a solution. I dont see anyone jumping forward saying "Hey I just scanned issue 34 of EGM". So am i to just undertake the whole project myself (purchasing, scanning, editing, distributing, seeding, promoting, and post 10-15 topics a day) in the hopes that maybe one of my members other then MBJ donates a few bucks out of their pocket to help?

I could easily scan 5-7 magazines a week, but whats the reason for doing so? Obviously its not appriciated, as no one is stepping forward to take some of the burden off myself.

Perhaps people simply don't know about this.

I joined the forum after finding the Nintendo Power scans on a torrent site along with Mean Machines and a couple of other magazine scans.

But to me it looked like the retromag project seemed to have been abandoned, so I just started scanning my own magazines and uploading them directly to UG, since most of the people here are members there as well.

I certainly know how much time and effort goes into scanning and editing, so I do appreciate the work that several others do very much so.

If there's something I can help with like editing scans or anything, just let me know. I'll be glad to do it in between my own CVG and Sega stuff.

Just remember that I can't promise to do a certain amount per week since I have not enough free time as it is, but I'll do whatever I can whenever I can squeeze in some work. :)
