  1. I still remember the days of ads in the back of gaming mags with the NeoGeo, selling the consoles for $500+ and the games for $100-200. Used to be, that was insane to think that someone would pay that much. I still do, but to a kid, that cost just puts the thing in a special realm. Almost like an obscenely expensive car. I could easily build something faster than a Ferarri, but c'mon... it's a Ferarri. They're just cool, and I think the NG has a lot of that same appeal. As for the Jag and CDI, the only reason I'd ever consider picking one up is if it was less than $20, and in decent enough shape to put on a shelf for decoration. The games just weren't there, hence their failures. The TG16 and Master System on the other hand... there was some gold on both of them.
  2. Clearly you never played one the first time around... Agreed on the support of retro gaming though. All the hubbub of new consoles, I honestly... just meh. I'm good where I'm at. Facebook can have the kiddos and their gaming habits these days.
  3. Thanks for the update Phil! If I remember the game correctly, Sengoku was pretty badass back in the day. I remember playing it as a kid in our local arcade, and the fact you played as a ninja, who could summon (or maybe turn into?) things like tigers and dragons? Of course, this blew my mind back then haha. Still, $25 seems a little steep for an SD card, even if they are NeoGeo games. Also, I'm a little curious on what this "update" is for. I wonder if it's a means of locking out (or at least attempting to) hackers, as was the case with the continual PSP updates over the years...
  4. Didn't mean to stir the pudding bud, nor was I pointing it all at you (pretty sure there was one or two others that I was referring to in general), but you're probably right here, I may have misunderstood the intent behind your post. No worries here. Soon as things get going, I'm all for helping seed torrent if Philly and the admins of RM are ok with it.
  5. I mean no offense (particularly to you Kiwi, I know you have a level head on your shoulders), I just wish people would stop acting so entitled on the internet. I'm just as excited to see RM 2.0 bloom as anyone else, as I love digital collections, and it seems I missed the fun when Mega went down.
  6. To be a voice of reason here, most of the files I've gotten off of RM here (they're still available, just gotta know how to dig a bit...) are in the 100-300mb range. Multiply that by 1100+, and with average internet upload speeds what they are, I'm sure that it would take a solid MONTH if not two or three to get that all uploaded to a server, even working around the clock. A project of this scope would take a guy like myself the better part of a year or more, ignoring my other hobbies as well. I know you're looking for an update, and even a small one would suffice, but if you're not willing to contribute YOUR time to making RM2.0 happen, then you're really just making a scene for no good reason. Nobody owes you anything if you didn't contribute.
  7. Well, as for me, I have a couple dozen Gamepro, EGM, Game Players/UGP, mostly from around 1993-98, far from a complete collection of anything. HOWEVER... after giving my entire collection of PSM (going back to issue 7 or 8, up to around issue 8 or 9 of PTOM, when Rob Smith took over as EIC) to the local library as a book sale donation, I am happy to say that I've acquired the first 55 issues of PSM, most in great shape, and a few that are in such good shape I'm almost hesitant to open them up. That, and on the other side of that magazine, I have most all of the issues of PTOM, after the ones that I gave away. Fortunately that magazine got a LOT better after Rob left and the magazine got some of it's humor back. Now the question is... do I try to complete the collection? Sheesh... that's around 80 issues I'm missing if I'm doing my math right. Either way, if we ever need scans of PSM, lemme know.
  8. You know, I just might have to subscribe to EGM and this @Gamer that you guys are talking about. Now that PSM is done, Grassroots Motorsports is only 8 issues a year, and Motortrend is a short magazine... I'm finding myself running out of things to read on lunch breaks haha... Plus, I honestly have very little idea what is coming out, gaming wise. Then again, the back catalog is growing faster than I can chip away at it, so perhaps not knowing might be for the best?
  9. Thanks for posting this, what issue of EGM was this in? There's a small chance I might have the magazine, I do have a handful of them from around 93-95...
  10. Personally I'm still a bit irked that I can't play PS2 games on my PS3, and for frankly silly reasons. Then again, how many people would be buying PSN versions of PS2 games if they still have the discs? All about the money I suspect. Also related, I'm a bit worried now that if my PS2 ends up dying, it may prove difficult to find another new one now that Sony has quit making them. However, I'm trying to look at the bright side of any new console info. Everything I hear so far is really making me look at my back catalog more seriously haha.
  11. Give it a shot, considering it doesn't even have a wiki, I'd say that calling it underrated might be proper. That would hopefully translate to cheap, if maybe not easily found. I liked it then, might have to hook up the old Xbox and give it a shot this weekend.
  12. Ahhh! I found it. Didn't think Google would be quite so precise when I myself was rather clueless. Turns out it was called "Gadget Twins". http://www.gamefaqs.com/genesis/586197-gadget-twins Doesn't even have a wikipedia article on it... About all I rememberd was what was mentioned above, and it came out around (within a year, give or take) the time that Sonic 3 did. I had a lot of fun with it as a kid, I wonder if it still holds up these days? Thanks for the motivation to sort it out Areala!
  13. Hmm, the gameplay was similar, but think cartoony. I think one of your main weapons was a boxing glove on one of those spring-type extensions (again, think cartoony). Any other guesses? Also another more obscure favorite of mine growing up, this game: Goofy's Hysterical History Tour http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goofy%27s_Hysterical_History_Tour Game was rather difficult, but a lot of fun.
  14. Luuthian, I have lived in some rather TINY living spaces (think an 8x9 foot room for a bed, couch, chair, and ~15 years of acumulated gaming and car hobby stuff), but I can't honestly say that gaming magazines ever really "strangled" my living space. You just have to get creative. Now, I finally have a bookshelf to display them on, they take up all of one bottom shelf, or approximately 2.5" in width. Not too bad, plus it makes the rest of the bookshelf nice and stable. Ctophil, I can see that streaming thing working for *some* games, but not all. Folks don't like it as it is when their internet connection causes lag in shooters, driving games, MMO's, etc. I can only imagine the hurdle it would be to make something like that work. A game like GT5 or MGS on a streaming service? I uh... just don't see it happening. Games like Worms, Angry Birds, or other classic games, that would be an ideal model, at least until the company doesn't feel like keeping the servers online for that game anymore. As a consumer, I don't like the idea that the company can pull the plug on a game I paid them to let me play... Hard to say whether it will pan out for the best though. Until we have 25+mb/s internet connections as a standard throughout the country though, I'm not holding my breath on it being THE way going forward. Cool idea though.
  15. For what it is worth, all PS1 games I've bought on PSN (in a couple cases to encourage releasing more titles like it), they have had a digital manual you can zoom in on, and the quality is quite nice. My biggest reason for preferring a disc based game is that if my internet craps out, I still have access to it. Also, with PS1 titles, I can put the disc in my PS1, and Gameshark it however I so choose... I think the biggest hurdle to an all-digital model, other than the hard drive space, is internet speeds. Sure, things have gotten better in most places, but if you require that internet be active to download and/or play your games, you would cut off a vast majority of the people in rural areas, or areas with poor internet service. I know where I live JUST got reasonably quick internet a few years ago.
  16. I think you'd like the X then, I hear especially good things about the joystick, considering it's rather cheap price. That said, I'd love an original AES (pretty sure that was the arcade setup), but like you mention, the cost is still fairly prohibitive...
  17. Man, this would be way too hard for me, way too many memories... However, I do remember one particularly fun game, was two player, and your characters were PLANES if I remember correctly. You could attack in one of four directions (switched between them with one of the buttons), the screen scrolled on its own. In a way, it reminded me of the art style from the first Rayman game. Does anyone else remember this game? And if anyone was looking for a classis SRPG, the Shining Force series was quite fun.
  18. You know, there are plenty of games I'd love to be able to play digitally, since they were limited release games, or low production numbers sort of games. Take Suikoden II for example. Sony and Konami could be RAKING in money if they'd release it on PSN for $10-15. Considering what people pay on Ebay... no-brainer, right? However, they see none of the Ebay money because they are second hand sales. Whose fault is that now? NOT MINE! Time will tell, but I really don't see Sony being this dense.
  19. Hmm, well the NG was very much a powerhouse when it came to fighting games in the 90's. Besides Capcom, I don't think anyone else really pulled off 2d fighters quite like SNK. =) That said, there is a pretty healthy variety on the system. If one is into roms and that sort of thing, I understand the NGX can be tinkered with to play them. So far, I have yet to even see anything on any other games for the NGX, so... that may be our only option.
  20. Seems the channel is up and running as usual. If anything I think YT would be kinda stupid to get rid of his channel. If nothing else, you'd send those nearly million subscribers to Screw Attack or Game Trailers...
  21. I'd be surprised if it drops much. I dunno if any retailers stock them, but there for a while you couldn't touch one on Amazon for less than $400. Still have yet to find the time to even hook mine up to be honest...
  22. From the ad: "The price is for display purposes only. If you are interested please submit an offer." Probably to keep their chance to snag the highest offer while still letting the auction go for a while...
  23. Honestly, I already have since PTOM stopped. I now have about 3' of shelf space filled with nearly 20 years of Gamepro, PSM/PTOM, EGM, and a couple other randoms thrown in. E-Day, Philly, if ever you guys want to borrow a mostly complete collection of PTOM for archiving purposes, please let me know. I have issues 9, 11-68 (or whatever the very last issue was?), most of them are in quite good condition too.
  24. Now if Future were to do something similar with back issues being a part of a digital subscription, I'd be forking over money to them again. As it is though, they have nothing of interest to me anymore... Like I said above, if said magazines were to give access to their full back catalog of issues going back to their genesis, I'd be over that in a hurry. Would certainly save shelf space haha... Failing that though, why would you pay for the same info you can get on a dozen other sites? The only reason I still liked to sub to PTOM until the end was it gave me something to read on my break at work. As for gaming going completely digital, I *might* see it happening if the price of absolutely massive hard drives drops drastically. As is, some games on PSN are upwards of 30gb. Now if every game were like that, how long would that 1tb drive last? Not nearly long enough for someone who likes to keep their games. As for Gamestop supporting digital distribution only models, how would they make any money? When I buy something on PSN, my money goes to the developer through Sony. Why would anyone want a middle man in this model of business?
  25. Chris, if a digital copy would suffice for now, if you search for psm* (think that was the search term I used...) on here, you will come upon a thread with a bunch of download links that are still working, courtesy of rapidshare. I managed to snag all 4 of the issues (1, 2, 3, and 21) that are listed on the RM download section. Good luck!
