    Blip 01-04

pretty interesting, never seen it before.
  2. i got a dual core in my pc and i can definitely tell the difference, especially when multitasking. it handles itself really well and keeps quiet and cool. i have long been wanting to get a set up with dual monitors, but just have not had the funding available. i'm on a real tight budget trying to build up enough downpayment for my first house. but i can only imagine what it'd be like having dual monitors. ahh one day...
  3. Is there a list of all the torrents that are available? I think it would be nice to have a single location that lists links to all the torrents as opposed to searching through mininova and searching through forum posts. maybe i'll make a topic with links to all of them that can get stickied.

that site is fantastic. good find. now if only i had a job where i was at a cubicle all day.
  5. Thanks for the update, I thought I remember reading on some sites a while back that the chips can be purchased in any type of electronic or hardware store that generally sells these things. Like I said, I'm not familiar at all with electrical engineering, so I don't know. I do have one question for you, however, since you seem to know a bit more about it. Is it feasible to do the same thing with a N64 controller that you are gonna do with the NES controller? I have long awaited finding some type of adapter for the 64 pad, but came up with poor results and outdated information. Thanks.
  6. You can always IP ban the users that are causing problems through your hosting service (or at least should be able to).
  7. yeah, i looked in to doing myself as well as i had a couple of the pads; unfortunately, i'm not good at soldering and all that, so i opted not to. also, i could only find the do it yourself's for plugging them into the parallel or serial ports, nothing for modifying it to usb. if you know a little electrical engineering (which i don't), i'm sure you can figure it out, as it is just a matter of getting the wires and diodes to the right spots or whatever. Here's a link for the NES to USB diagrams: CLICK HERE The thing that I liked about hte Retrozone joysticks is that they are very clean and well-put together. There is no sign of the adapter that converts the controller to USB (it is built into the controller itself, so the chip is very small. It is indeed perfect if you ask me.
  8. I just thought I'd give a little insight to those who are looking for retro game pads that plug directly into the USB port. I got a couple NES and SNES ones from Retrozone (http://www.retrousb.com/) and they are phenominal. I absolutely love playing old games with the controller and these are USB, so they are plug'n'play, easy to configure, and you can have more than one at a time. They have controllers for NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, Atari, Genesis, Jaguar, Intellivision, Colecovision, Vectrex, Turbo Graphix 16, 3D0, Bally Astrocade, Atari 5200, Sega Saturn and Neo Geo. Only thing missing is the N64, but I've looked long and hard into it and can't seem to come up with anything except those PSX/N64 adapters that don't quite work anyways. Anyways, at about 30 bucks they can be a bit pricey, but definitely worth it if you as big on nostalgic feel as I am. That site again is http://www.retrousb.com/
  9. I use Jnes too. I love it. It's very small, uses low amount of resources, and has a lot of functionality that the others have. I've been using Snes9x and Project64 as well.

    This Site

hey what's this site based from....what i am trying to say is, what forum system are you using for this site? is it like a phpbb or something? i like the setup and how it has the arcade and everything, i think it's a fantastic way to bring repeat traffic to a site and may incorporate something similar into the showdown site when we revamp and start afresh in the next year or so. and i want a type of arcade type thing that keeps track with stats into the forum members. so i'm just curious what you were using and if applicable, what mods you used. thanks mr slayer

    420's Editing School

good work with the guide so far. very informative. get at me some ftp details and i'll try to get your scans cleaned up over the course of a couple weeks, time permitting. just pm me, i won't go overboard this time.
  13. i drive a mk4 vw golf. did a bunch of visual modifications to it, not much engine work. it's still my daily driver, so i didn't want to waste money when i am not gonna race it. here's a pic. all us showdown people drive vw's and audi's. they are really nice vehicles and like the civic have a wide range of aftermarket parts. the new mk5 golf looks amazing, do some google-ing.
  14. yes, now i have an idea what you guys were doing as opposed to doing the overkill as you put it. it should cut down time a lot. be more than happy to help out again with whatever time i have available.
  15. hey philly i just want to say job well done on the new site. i think it's great and if you ever need any help with anything let me know.
  16. yeah i was originally working on the smb3 guide that someone else scanned (i don't have a scanner). i am willing to help do that photoshop stuff like rotating and cropping in my spare time. i am quite a photoshopper, but i don't know how to set up batches or whatever.
  17. Yeah, I remember having the donkey kong country video. Pretty interesting stuff. I'll keep my eyes open. I also have been rearchiving the old tech tv show called "icons" if any of you have heard of it. it is a sort of gaming history show dedicated to popular people/franchises/consoles/events. It's very interesting and i will be more than happy to share once I finally get a season done. I don't want to up anything that isn't a full season. season 3 used to float around the internet in torrents, but i haven't been able to find the others. here's an episode list: Season 1 1 Oddworld Inhabitants 2 Nolan Bushnell 3 Pac-Man 4 Lara Croft 5 Activision 6 Miyamoto 7 Everquest 8 Bioware 9 Will Wright 10 Women of Gaming 11 Insomniac Games 12 Sid Meier 13 Scary Games 14 Richard Garriott 15 Bruce Shelley 16 John Madden NFL Football 17 Splinter Cell 18 Lord Of The Rings Season 2 19 Atari 20 Game Music 21 Unreal 22 Yu Suzuki 23 Intellivision 24 The Legend Of Zelda 25 Xbox 26 Arcade 27 The History Of E3 28 LucasArts 29 Red Storm 30 Warren Spector 31 PC Gaming 32 The Crash 33 Games In The Military 34 Mario 35 Naughty Dog 36 Onimusha Halloween 03 37 Mega Man 38 Yuji Naka 39 Final Fantasy 40 Dungeons and Dragons Season 3 41 Music Games 42 Sega Dreamcast 43 ESRB 44 Peter Molyneux 45 Tetris 46 Electronic Arts 47 Game Boy 48 Donkey Kong 49 Nobuo Uematsu 50 The DOOM Franchise 51 Dead or Alive 52 SNK 53 Mortal Kombat 54Prince of Persia 55 Mark Cuban 56 Metal Gear Solid 57 Half-Life 58 Bungie 59 Apple II 60 Fighting Games Season 4 61 Gran Turismo 62 Splinter Cell 63 Frank Miller 64 Tim Schafer 65 Star Wars 66 Ralph Baer 67 PlayStation 68 George A. 18. Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core HD: 2x 300Gb 7200 rpm Memory: 2 Gbs w/ heatspreaders (1gb + 2x 512mbs) OS: XP Media Center Edition This is just a gateway computer beefed up by me (added more ram and harddrive space). Used to have a homebrew, but had a power outtage that fried most of it. The ide cables were melted to the motherboard. Once I get my own house, i'll be rebuilding my server (hopefully have a total capacity of over a terabyte), and also building my personal use computer as this one will be going into the living room to use as a tv recorder.
  19. hey guys, i just stumbled upon a site that has a nice scan of the original star fox arwing cutout fold-up thing that was in one of the nintendo powers. i can send it to ya'll whoever wants it. i remember this thing was pretty hard to put together and imagine most of the issues will have it missing as us kids wanted to build it instead of save it.
  20. hey everyone, i'm back. just got my computer up and running again (had a power surge that fried my old one and lost everything). the only thing salvagable was my video card. been trying to get my favorites all back and finally remember the ol' retromags site. wish i was able to lend more of a hand before it crashed. i had the mario 3 strategy guide nearly done, only about 10 pages to do, but got caught up in some personal matters that didn't lend me enough free time. if you guys want a photoshopper again, i can help out, this time i'll make it easier on myself and do the joins just like you guys have done instead of the insane amount of work i put into the smb3 guide by literally rephotoshopping much more than necessary. good to see philly and 420 again, let me know if you need anything. Mr Slayer
