  1. For a top of the line, you will easily spend a $1000 for a modern PC in U.S. dollars. I've always been fine with the older and weaker models. Not really into gaming these days that needs a beefy computer. Also many IBM comps back in the day could be up to $3000 I think. With most of the assembly going over seas, its lowered prices a good bit now.
  2. Bomber Run! That game is so simple, yet fun. Thanks for naming it. I'll look for it later in the day.
  3. The turbograpx was a awesome machine. I first saw this system at a comics shop that had a small group sitting around playing Bonks Adventure. This system probably has one of my favorite 16 bit games of all time though: The Legendary Axe. I just love everything about this game. I still play it all the time. I really feel that this system should have done better than it did. Sure, it wasn't a true 16 bit but you really couldn't tell it. And it had TONS of software in Japan never ported here. Shame really.
  4. One thing I really regret not having growing up was a computer. They were just so expensive throughout most of the '80s. I was excited when it was computer lab day and we got to play Oregon Trail on those eyesore green monitors. I actually had a chance once to go to a kids house who had a Commodore 64 and I was amazed at the graphics and sound (this is the '80s, mind you). Playing with those computers in emulator now, I think I would have been very happy with a C-64 over even a NES. I think the problem with many C-64 games are just that they arent programmed as well as they should be. Although I would have been just as happy with a Atari 800 XL if it had been supported better by game companies. Anyone know the game where a plane goes across the screen and you drop bombs before you get to the bottom and hit a building?
  5. I'm glad someone asked. I've been wondering about it for almost a month. I thought there was a site game I couldn't find.
  6. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried getting Rayman to work in DOSbox. I've never been able to get that game working correctly in either Saturn or Playstation emulators. It was one of the first games I played when I got my Saturn in '96.
  7. Is there any good books on Jack Tramiel? I'm interested in his business practices at both Commodore and Atari.
  8. I'm finding the really early gaming magazines fun to read because it was a completely new hobby for many people. It's also fun to skim and read magazines I had back in the day. I haven't seen them in many years. The best part about these is that I often come across games I've either forgotten about or never played that I might have a interest in.
  9. Last year I bought a Intellivision and Colecovision Flashback. And you know what? Neither of them lasted. They just started losing video one by one. My genesis handheld is pretty nice though and it's from the same company ATgames. Other than that, I haven't bought a system since the Xbox 360 and I didn't keep it long. Last new system I've bought and really liked was the Playstation 2.
  10. Ninja Gaiden games are a real challenge for sure. I think they are some of the best on the NES. I remember getting really far once on NG1 and the screen freezing. Now when I play the game it'll be the SNES version. I've never beaten them. I don't think my reflexes are as good as they use to be either although I still remember the patterns on the first one.
  11. I don't have the best eyesite, so portable gaming isn't something I do much of but I do have one of those genesis portables from ATgames. I like that I can use a SD card and port more games on it. The bad part about this little system is that you can't save your progress so Phantasy Star II and other RPG's are not practicle on it. It's still great for a game of golden axe on the go.
  12. Many great memories spending the night at a friends who had a NES before me in '87. We would stay up late into the night working on Zelda, Rygar, or whatever game was giving us a challenge. I enjoyed the act of walking to the store to see what games were in to. I grew up in a really small town and we had two places to rent games: Western Auto and a very small videostore. They both were good with getting at least one new NES game every month. I always wondered if that would be the week a new release came in.
  13. Had a tv alot like that growing up in our living room. It's perfect for playing light gun games. Great stuff!
  14. River Raid. I like to play many of them on a regular basis though. The system I played the most.
  15. I'm pretty good with old cartoons. I knew it had to be one of them. I actually seem better at remembering "useless" information than things that are important most of the time. Heres one I wonder if anyone remembers: Captain Power and the Soldier of the Future. I watched this in syndication on Sundays during it's original run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M678PVOf5F0
