  1. Big retro fan here. Getting the switch though. First ever game was probably pong at my grandfather. First game I owned was the Nintende Game&Watch game Lion. Then the atari, commodore plus4, commodore 64 etc, etc etc.

Bit off topic: my grandfather was quite the tech nerd in his day, repairing tv's and what have you not. He actually had a huge stack of computer magazines from the early 80's. Unfortunatley when he passed they were all dumped in the trash (I was not around to save them). I remember atari age, computer games and videogames.

  2. The most recent systems I have bought are actually not the newest Kids on the block you might say. I went on a bit of a retro console obsession last year. Ended up buying a NES with RGB mod. Simply stunning razor sharp graphics on an Original console. After that I also bought en RGB modded SNES mini/jr. As far as I am concerned the Original hardware with mods is simply the best way to play the games.

Finally, I also bought the nes classic mini. Regular pre order since i detest al the flipping and scalping.

Just to let everyone know that Alex1 sent me the mags packaged excellently and they are really nice condition. Any scanning members here on Retromags looking at his magazines for the purposes of scanning for the site can rest assured that he delivered as promised for me and I have no hesitation in acquiring further mags from him if required.

Any issues of his that I process will be noted on my W.I.P page and if someone wants to convert them to CBR format and make them available here go for it. Can a Mod look at changing his status to reflect his donations please?

Thanks for the compliment and the status change! Just trying to make a little contribution to something so close to my heart.

Also, the way that Kiwi has handled the scanning and editing is top notch and I wouldn't hesitate shipping more magazines to him for preservation.

I do have a few boxes in the basement that still need to be weeded out, so who knows what I will find there (no idea really).

  4. Hiya,

I don't normally reply to posts offering magazines on Retromags as I run my own website so do not want to be seen to be poaching content however I can advise that Edge 118 has already been scanned and is available over at OGM along with issues 2, 3 & 4 of Ultimate Future Games so I'd be really keen to acquire your issues of that magazine along with Edge 35 to fill in some blanks in the archive. I live in New Zealand however so I'm guessing postage will be a fair bit. If you are willing to look at it get a cost to ship to Auckland, New Zealand and if it isn't out of the ballpark expensive let me know and we'll try and work things out.

    Kiwi

Hi everyone. In addition tot the other magazines I mentioned I also found some other magazines:

    Nintendo Magazine System (UK):

    - issue may#8

    - issue oct#25

    - issue sept#36

    - issue jan#40

    - issue mar#42

    - issue apr#43

    - issue july#46

    - issue june#45

    - issue sept#48

    Computer and videogames (UK)

    - issue no 154 (Sept 1994, DKC Cover)

Other then some dutch magazines for now that is it. I have some boxes elsewhere that might have a few more, but won't be cleaning those out for now.

Kiwi. Let me know if there is anything you are interested in from this lot. I will then go see what the shipping would cost.

  5. I see that there have been no reactions thus far. any advice from anyone what I can do? Right now I have no time or knowledge about scanning.. I would love to donate to some one but no one seems interested. I would not mind shipping to the USA if prices are not too high either by the way.

  6. Hi guys,

I have a few old magazines I found cleaning up. I don't want to keep them but would like to donate them to the community.

I am willing to pay for postage as long as it is not expensive. I was advised to post them and see who would be willing to do the work for preservation.

These are the mags that I have found that are all listed as missing on this site or are just out of the preservation range.

I live in the Netherlands so anywhere in Europe would be preferable.

    • EDGE  ISSUE 118. Christmas 2002. (NOT ALLOWED)
    • EDGE issue 35. October 1996. MISSING
    • CD rom today multi media tool chest may 1996. MISSING

  7. Just wondering if anyone closer to me has appeared and might be interested? As before I'm happy to cover some or all of the shipping (within reason!) and I still have all of the ones listed in my earlier posts.

I have been cleaning my basement amd have a few diffrent magazines that are listed as missing. How can Imdonate these??

I live in the Netherlands so close to home would be nice.

  8. Nintendo should have done this a long time ago. Hopefully the to this with other Consoles would love to see an Snes with Super Ghouls and Ghosts, SimCity, Final Fantasy II, III, ChronoTrigger, Link to the Past, Mario-All Starts + Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Contra, and Super Castlevania 4. Tons of other great titles to add to the list, but that seems like enough.

I like the list. Probably too many 3rd party games. But who knows?

  9. I've been all over the place as far as gaming is concerned. Have owned both consoles and various types of computers. PC's, commodore 64 and plus 4, 386-pentiums etc and nowadays mostly Apple. They all have their charm. Consoles to me are just less of a hassle too. If you want to play them on the old school rigs it would be a pain. And the media used to store the software, esp. the old stuff is more fragile.

Can't tell how many  5 1/4 floppies just died on me or just being near a magnet.

Of course you can now emulate practically everything u can play the old stuff, jus (to me), without it's charm.

  10. I own most of the 100 first issues. In generally good condition. I also remember catching some flack during the high school years as me and a bunch of geek friends used to discuss particulars of games in the mag. The cooler kids would definitely dissaprove. But we didn't care. So even Mickey dressed as a fireman went to school with me. Haha.

  11. I am currently rediscovering my old consoles after years of having them stashed away and currently started working on some backlog 20+ years in the making. Just got a frammeister and bought a 20inch Sony PVM CRT monitor. The emulation scene has felt a bit empty since then. Even the hassle of hooking a system up seems like a joy! Don't know how long the (second) honeymoon will last. :)

So these last few months I have been playing a few hours during weekends. Currently playing Earthbound (barely touched the game/big box in the past) and doing some 2p stuff with my younger brother like Zombies ate my neighbours, Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Pocky and Rocky.

    Just great!

  12. Mine are going to my grandfather who was quite the electronics geek and playing pong on his older black and white CRT tv back in the beginning of the 80's.

My parents had a hard time prying me away from that screen.

I also remember he had stacks of old magazines, many of them listed but still missing on this website. I recognize many covers. Seeing the pics of the games in the magazines blew me away!

  13. Hi there everyone. I have just started cleaning up my old consoles, games, magazines etc. I was looking for a proper cataloging solution for all the hardware.

I've looked around and found several online databases that cater to videocollectors like collectorz.com, vgcollectors.com. I would rather have a solution that can be held on your computer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm a mac user and found delicious library 3 lacking as I can't catalog things like manuals, boxes etc. as far as I know.

    Thanks!

  14. Good point. That would probably be the case. The market for rare games wouldn't change much.

Only other factor that might infleunce price is the plethora of profit seeking web based stores since they need to make some profit. I wonder if it isn't an overcrowded market with slim margins though.

At least they make the games more readily available for consumers I would think.
