Thank you so much, your cover is much better, this was my first time doing this and I spent so many hours on it ;_; I'm so excited that something I sent got submitted

    yikes that cover! 😞

I'll fix it up for you.

Here, you can update your file with this cover.

  2. Okay good to know, there's another thing that bothered me btw, when I scanned them perfectly against the corner of my scanner it still looked like the image was at a slight tilt or angle due to the pages or where I took the pages out of the binding, it's left with these frill looking things sticking out where it was in the binding.  I did a ton of touch up on the actual pages themselves I just haven't for the cover, I just became super self conscience about mine after looking at the latest magazines that got scanned.  I'll clean up the top a bit more, but I should probably hold off on declaring this thing complete until I can rescan the back of the cover with the sticker off.  Rookie mistake.  I peeled off the sticker carefully and it of course uplifted a tiny bit of the yellow background but nothing I can't digitally fix.

Currently my digital version looks a lot better than the actual condition it's in, recreating some of the corners where a page was torn was a pain but rewarding.  I didn't know if it would get accepted but glad to know you guys also put in the time to do that.  If I may ask, is there a specific copier you suggest for the best results, as I need to get a new one anyway.

  3. I don't know how to put the pages in WIP or PDF format btw but I put it in CBR format and have the pages uploaded separately but provided them in one 7zip file.
If there are any changes that I need to make please let me know.  I'm sure I could clean up the cover a bit more digitally but I don't know if that's frowned upon if I have to digitally remove any blemishes since this wasn't a brand new guide I debinded.

  4. Okay I know it's a  year later but I moved back to my home state and I just found my USB stick with all my scans yesterday.  I would have just rescanned but I don't have access to a copier/printer as of yet.  Here are my results, if anyone is familiar with the process of how I can help get this added to the site I'd be more than happy to contribute this.  It took me roughly 10 hours total for all the work put into it, as initially some of the pages were pretty beat up.  This guide goes for around 90 brand new and I got a used copy last year for $25 so I think I got a pretty good deal, most of the pages were in decent enough condition and I worked hard on it, I'm proud of the results.  Enjoy.

  5. Well, if you edit the files according to the site guidelines (in the "how to guides" section), a team member or admin/mod can upload them after they've been checked over for approval (you'll first have to upload the edited .cbr to a filesharing service).  If you're talking about just uploading raw scans, you should upload them to a filesharing service and post a topic in the forums to see if anyone is interesting in editing the scans so they can be uploaded here.

Okay thank you, I'll edit the files according to the guidelines and put them into the .cbr format.  My friend's hair dryer is on her last leg so I'll have to get my own.

  6. Hello everyone, I was going through the Video Game Guides and noticed that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door was missing.  Finding it on other sites, I noticed that the quality of the scans were crap compared to some of the high quality scans I've seen on Retromags.

I purchased the Official Guide from Nintendo Power Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, and my friend is coming over later today with her hair dryer so I can take apart the guide and scan each page individually with my own scanner.  I was wondering who I might have to get in contact with in order to get this thing uploaded or sent in a winrar or zipped file after I'm done scanning them.

  7. If I were to list my favorite Star Wars movies from best to worst, they would have to be

Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope

Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Rogue One - A Star Wars Story

Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens

Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones

My reasoning for this is, if I'm getting to the point, is that episodes 4 5 and 6 have the most consistency throughout the movies.  Rogue One explains how they got the plans to the death star and how the Rebels could figure out how to destroy something so massive.. I loved Rogue one and have already seen it 3 times in theaters. I loved the action in Episode 3, I get goosebumps every time I see the final battle.  Star Wars Episode 7 just.. idk, I saw it multiple times in theaters, it got great ratings, I love it for bringing the Star Wars franchise back, I just didn't think it was as great as so many people claim it is.  Star Wars Episode 1.. Jar Jar.  Star Wars Episode 2 just felt like a love story.

  8. Jesus. I was in college when Pokemon Red/Blue were released in America. So you're either way younger, or else wet the bed at an embarrassingly late age...

I'm 26 now, so I'm going to go with embarrassingly late age, like I just turned 9 in August and got it for christmas.  That was the last time I did it too I think lol we all did it, oh well

  9. omg you're the best, I've been trying to remember the name of this for years on and off when I randomly remember it!  I remember one time I made something for my dad to see when he came home late from work but ended up falling asleep and wetting the bed and idk if he ever saw it.  I remember messing around with it though and wishing I had a printer, but I used to spend hours playing with it!

  10. This forum's default view is set to the way the normal forum operates: topics are listed and sorted by posting order, and the most recent posts are at the top. While this makes it simple to keep up with updates when you've been browsing for a while, it makes it a bit hard to locate a specific game in the database without resorting to the Search function time after time.

To remedy this, scroll down to the bottom of the page within the forum and check out the lower-right corner of the screen. Where it says: "Order: Last Post", click on the drop-down menu and change it to "Order: Topic Title". Then change the box next to it from "Z-A" to "A-Z" and click the "Go" button. The forum will sort itself into alphabetical order by game title, which should make locating a specific game very simple, especially if you aren't sure exactly how to spell it.

Under the current naming scheme for the forum, game titles starting with "A", "An", or "The" will be listed instead by the next word in the title. For instance, "The Combatribes" will be found under "Combatribes, The" and not "The Combatribes". This should help prevent confusion and increase the general readability of the forums. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

This is very helpful, thank you :)

  11. It's possible I marked about half of those as "scanning." That's because they actually did go through the scanning phase, but not the editing phase. I wanted to see if there was anyone interested in helping to edit, so I uploaded them unedited to an external site. Also the original donor, aloram, really wanted to at least have them scanned, so I quickly obliged.

    https://archive.org/details/UneditedGPScans

So far no one has expressed interest in editing them, which is a shame because it's a good way to get patron or team member status here at Retromags. People sometimes complain about being asked to donate to get patron status. Well no one has to! They can help edit scans.

Now, the mystery is that I only scanned and uploaded issues past #80. Everything that's marked "scanning" that's before issue #80, I really have no clue what's going on there.

Sorry, you guys just let anyone edit including new members?  I'd be happy to help edit, I have experience animating with studio pro 8 and editing with paint.net, which is pretty much like photoshop, I just don't have photoshop.  What do you do to these scans in particular, just make sure they're all straightened out and have the same lighting?  I have an interest I just don't know where to apply towards editing scanned magazines.

  12. What's up you guys, I saw that Emuparadise already has a scan of Paper Mario Thousand Year Door but they didn't do a very good job, the guide was still together so information that goes into the spine is dark, some are crooked, so I just got the last Nintendo Power guide for under 20.  Then I noticed that for some reason there's a Players choice and was wondering what the difference was?  Also if anyone has any recommendations as far as which heat gun they use, that'd be great!  I'll be getting a heat gun when I come back from vacation.

  13. OK, so I keep hearing about people cutting magazines with exacto knives and adamantium claws and whatnot, and I just wanted to put this here for anyone wondering if there's a better way, because I think the answer is yes.

Heat guns aren't expensive.  I got mine for around $20, but they might be even cheaper in the US (most things are).  They're also pretty fast and are the ONLY way you're gonna be able to scan everything that was printed on the page, since cutting is going to inevitably lose some of the stuff in the gutter.

I took a short video of me debinding a mag, not because it's a complicated process, but just so you can get a sense of how much time it takes.  I've got the mag's front cover held down with a weight.  I'd normally use a heavy stack of something flat to avoid the risk of damaging the cover, but I'd already scanned it and was in a hurry, so whatever.  Also note the cardboard underneath everything.  Heat guns are really, really HOT, so the cardboard is there as a buffer so my carpet doesn't melt while I'm waving the heat gun it its general direction. :D

You'll notice that it takes a little while to get the first page.  There are several reasons for that which may be hard to tell from the video:

    1. I start by trying to separate the cover spine from the rest of the magazine before trying to peel off individual pages
    2. This particular mag has a plastic CD sleeve glued to the first page which I wasted a little bit of time heating up before realizing that it would be easier to just cut it off later rather than risk melting the plastic.
    3. The first page and last page always take a bit longer, since there is usually more glue holding those pages for some reason.

Anyway, once I get the first page off, you can see how easily the rest of the pages can be peeled off in succession.  I place all the pages in order in a pile, and they're ready to be scanned.  Sometimes, a few pages will have some glue residue near the edge.  If it's particularly excessive, it can cause problems when going through the scanner feeder by snagging on the glass and distorting the scan.  In those cases, the glue would have to be peeled or cut away before scanning.  But I'd say 98% of the pages come out completely glue-free.

Btw, I wasn't trying to make this video look nice or anything.  Getting my phone angled to see what I was doing was hard enough.  Pardon my messy floor, my jammies, and the fact that I was de-binding a Tech Gian, so you spend a good deal of time as I loosen the cover staring at the first page table of contents prominently featuring big bold print that reads "fetish illustrations"

Dunno how many other scanners here use the heat gun method, but I hope this video is helpful for anyone who was curious.

Thank you so much for the video, I was looking for something like this!  I'll make sure to save this.

  14. Why would you think that?  I don't see anything on the cover to indicate that.  It's possible that it's this particular magazine's first mention of it, but I find that extremely doubtful as well.  By the time they have enough info on a game to do a cover feature, they've usually already previewed it a couple of times in the past.

On the front of the cover it says Sonic Adventure vivid expose.  This is the first magazine I've ever seen mention Sonic Adventure on the front cover, however I have yet to get to the Sega magazines yet.  I'm not even sure what Sega called their magazines, but back then yeah I'd expect games to first be announced through stuff like this, nintendo power, etc. before I heard about it on the internet.  I know there was a limited edition of Sonic Adventure that people could rent from hollywood video stores before the initial launch, I just don't know when the game was first announced or revealed, or through what.

  15. *No Spoilers yet*

You'll be fine if you watch Rogue 1 through 5 before watching Rogue -2 through 0 because they were so obiously written as an after thought.

The best part of Rogue One was the ending.  It verifies what they talked about in the original Star Wars movies such as the sacrifices made by the rebels.

oh yeah all of that was fine, it's the "girl gets saved by guy who supposidly died" that was SO LAME, they could have did something better with that.

  16. I can't think of a single time that's applied to me in my adult life, but I agree it would have been amazing as a kid.  Nowadays when I go somewhere, I'm driving, and when I get to where I'm going I'm too busy doing what I came for to think about playing games.  But as a kid with no responsibilities getting chauffeured everywhere by my parents, I could have just kept playing Mario 3 instead of switching to Super Mario Land.  Sadly, the idea is 25 years too late for me. :)

Yeah I guess that's true, I guess it's different for me since I have time to kill inbetween classes at college so for me this means taking my switch to school while waiting for class and since I live in the city I'm better off staying at college for an additional 2 hours for traffic to die down, do homework, and play the Nintendo Switch while waiting.  I have disability and the post 9/11 GI Bill so college for me basically is part of my income haha but for those who take public transportation or waiting for a flight, or even if you're just going over to a buddy's place, it's going to have two controllers at all times for local multiplayer, so idk I just hope it does well and succeeds.

  17. Great idea.. does anyone by chance remember a really old pokemon art game?  It had a bunch of stamps and boarders and there was a red version of the box and blue box, this was also around the same time lion king had a cd where you could play pinball with timon and puumba, I can't even remember if it was for windows 95 or linux.
