  1. October 2000! Starts at 9:00pm PST https://www.twitch.tv/norrinradd22 Playing through as many games as I can while reading through this issue of GamePro. Before I get started I will talk about movies and music also coming out this month. Stop by and chat, ya crazies!
  2. Great work! I managed to find a weird PDF scan of that one just by sheer luck, but it will be excellent to have it part of the main archive! @Areala Thanks for the heads up! I guess I will have to make a lateral move over to Next Gen when the GamePros start to run out. It will be weird to be reading\playing a different mag after 70+ episodes, but it will absolutely do!
  3. I am running out of weeks to find these missing mags. I have a redditor who will scan me the table of contents from his issues (eternally grateful), but I am curious if there are actually *any* magazines from these missing months? Seems like just about every magazine drops off at 2001, which is super weird since the PS2 was just hitting it's stride. Do any of you know of a Magazine that has a complete 2001? I'll even take non English.
  4. I appreciate the update! And yeah, while that does not help me in my immediate jam, I am glad to hear there are those out there with some copies to fill in gaps in the future. I wouldn't say there is a rush on it at least from my perspective. I just wrapped up Issue 142, so I am still 12 weeks away from having to change course when 154. @Phillyman I am pretty new to posting here, but it sounds like you are the big player in this game. I've been at this project of long form recording myself play through GamePros for over a year and have played 807 games up to this point (Here's the Game List: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16ZY7EpEYw0564L_AeDBq0Py2fh_9FbQjG__aoY4mQw0/edit?usp=sharing). If there are any of these missing GamePros floating around that could be archived, I would be super grateful!
  5. I've been streaming myself reading and playing through GamePro Magazines once a week for the last 67 weeks. I started in 1995 issues and am currently almost bumping up against the beginning of the gaps in the archive around 2001. I would like to continue doing this show for as long as I can make the games run, but not having the issue will become a problem. Here is a link to last week's June 2000 episode I spend at least 8 hours researching for each episode, gathering games and researching other movies and music that came out that same month to tie it all together. The show is pretty important to me, and if I can avoid trying to buy all these magazines used just to continue, I would love to. If anyone has any information, or magazines they feel like donating, please let me know. I can scan issues if needed. I am all ears!
  6. Still can't find anything to play Super Mario Kart SNES accurately. Nothing you can get world records on, anyway. BSNES is close, and I can't find Higan anywhere. But I doubt it plays smooth either.
  7. There are a few stalwart heroes who stay and watch the whole show, but I totally get it. 6 hours is a lot of anything. Sometimes I stream for longer than I slept that day. But I try to make the entire stretch interesting and entertaining. So anywhere you flip to int he episode should be fairly ridiculous. Thanks for checking it out! Were you a GamePro reader back in the day too?
  8. Every Sunday for the last year I have been playing through as many games as I can from an issue of GamePro magazine, framed as a comedy Late Night show. I had a subscription to GamePro from 1995 to 1998 or so, and I always found GamePro to be sort of the most vanilla in terms of showcasing a bit of everything. It's been a great magazine to travel back through all the major releases over the various platforms. I started in the 1995 issues and I am just coming up on the end of 1999! Episodes air here every Sunday at 9:30pm PST: https://www.twitch.tv/norrinradd22 I also archive every episode on Youtube. Here is the latest: The format these days is that I first talk about the movies and the music that came out the same month in my intro segment called the Pop Culture Refresher, then I play about 10 games from each magazine while going through it page by page. I usually try to pick a mix of genuinely good games and absurdly ridiculous games. I've played every console and handheld up to this point, including Tiger Game.com. The story of the show is that I bought a space station with my life savings and turned it in to a nightclub that only plays video game music, where I host a late night talk show with my co-host Fred Couples (former PGA Tour Champion). The two of us are constantly besieged by the clubs union maintenance man, who is usually trying to mess the show up. I figure some of you might genuinely enjoy the show, and if I can get any momentum here, I will happily update the thread with new episodes.
  9. Huge emphasis on Twisted Metal in this episode. This was the issue that broke my brain as a kid to a point where I actually bought Twisted Metal before I even owned a PSX (to play at a friend's house who did have one). I just knew I wanted to be a part of it. Playing it again here, it actually delivers almost exactly on what the article in the magazine with Producer of the game. Impressive considering what the editors of the magazine were saying about Primal Rage. Big discrepancy in accurately describing a game, haha.
  10. Back at it! We will determine, once and for all, which version of Killer Instinct is the best. Arcade, SNES, or... Game Boy? Also, for some additional context, Mortal Kombat the Movie was coming out this very same month. That really puts this magazine in to a time and place context. It was a great time to be gaming, I tell ya. Also, for gosh sake, I forgot to change the magazine image in the video itself. Rookie mistake...
  11. I had a subscription to GamePro from 1994 to 1997 or so. Basically from the 16bit era right through the passing of the torch to the 32bit era. It was an amazing time to be reading GamePro and magazines in general because that was basically the best source for game news, and screen shots. The 32bit consoles were basically bordering on voodoo magic in terms of graphical power, and all you could do was read the magazine, decipher the tiny grainy images (sometimes taken off a screen) and imagine how cool the game was going to be. I actually have a lot of nostaliga for the games I imagined in my head. Games that never actually existed in the way I pictured them, or lots of times, games I never even played period. I decided it would be a good idea to capture that weird fleeting nostalgia, and hammer smash it together with the cold hard reality of what the games actually were in a new series where I read through the magazine (scans), and load up many of the games to directly check them out as they pop up in the issue. It's fun to rip on games and call them bad with all this hindsight we have now, but I try to only dip my toe in the realm of making fun, and really just try to enjoy that a lot of these games were basically going blindly forward in an industry that was still very much the wild west. Even a bad game from 1995 is still almost a pioneer if you choose to view it that way. Sometimes though, the bad games just need a good future spanking, which I am happy to provide as needed. I can't think of a community that would probably understand or enjoy this series more than all of you. The community here is doing such a good thing, and doing such great work to preserve these magazines that were such a huge part of the gaming and gamer world just before the internet took over. I do the shows live every Sunday, at 9:30pm PST, and next week is August 1995, which is a full E3 breakdown. That year's E3 was absolutely on fire with the new consoles dropping and the old consoles fighting for relevance should be a good one. I try to make every episode an event, rather than just another stream. If it sounds up your alley, check out some hype videos I made: And check out the latest full episode, with a full July 1995 breakdown of current events at the start, to really set the mood: I stream live on Youtube and Twitch every Sunday at 9:30pm PST. I'd love it if any of you stopped by and hopped in the chat. I'll always be down for request or two :) https://www.twitter.com/Norrin_Radd22 https://www.youtube.com/NorrinRadd22
  12. Mednafen and the Mednaffe Frontend have been insanely good to me. Saturn and PSX seem to run flawless out of the box.
  13. Off the top of my head, UniRacers comes to mind. It was kind of ahead of the Tony Hawk curve. I know there were sort of similar games before, liek 720 and Skate or Die, and probably others, but Uniracers seemed like the first one that was heading in a now, modern, direction.
  14. I gotta say, my gut reaction is to say the Jaguar. When you actually play some of these games now a days, you can really see how much of an objective failure it was. Hindsight helps though. At the time, the digitized graphics seemed like a huge deal, but when you look at the file size of the roms, peaking behind the curtain a little, you can see how they were really selling you a polished turd. Thank goodness I didn't have the money to blow on it when I was a kid. It's weird too, to see how all the console makers were trying to stand on their own two legs. Atari was a huge name, and they were out of the game for quite a while. To come bursting back with that, and think they had a shot... Man, it's just weird to think about.
  15. I had every one of these. :) If I am not mistaken, I think some mom and pop video stores rented these kind of tapes in the kid's section, no?
