Those were the early days of strategy guides where you couldn't use any official images so you had to just make stuff up. (I remember seeing a bunch of resold Pokemon cards at places like K-Mart where none of the creatures on the packaging were real Pokemon) I assume this is also what led to GamePro and their infamously off-model covers in their first 50 issues or so.

Well this is just the worst cover of any gaming magazine ever

I've been waiting for this one to be uploaded based on the cover alone

It's nice to know Rick Schroder was always a complete tool.

I remember Nintendo putting out this promotional pamphlet for upcoming GCN/GBA games around summer 2003. I have it somewhere (all I remember is the cover is blue) but it's probably in shit quality and I have no idea where it is. It had some neat oddities (games like Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy being referred to by their working titles of Sphinx and the Shadow of Set and ESPionage).

"2001: The Best is Yet to Come!" on a Dreamcast magazine...
I'll take Covers That Aged Poorly for 500, Alex.

Finally, my time has come to shine!
This is issue #50 (SSX Tricky on the cover) from October, 2001. The feature is "PSM Makes the Ultimate RPG", with artwork by Adam Warren.
The bad news is, we don't have a copy of this one on the site.
The good news is, this issue was included in the lot I just posted to @MigJmz, so we have a copy in the pipeline.
*huggles*
ArealaWeird, I checked that issue and the feature didn't appear to be in it.

I've recently remembered another magazine I had that I can't seem to put my finger on. It was maybe handheld based (possibly Pocket Games) but so far if it was it isn't any of the issues here. All I really remember is it had a walkthrough for Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure/XS and during it they made a joke about one of the levels being named Air Supply after the horrible band. It might've been some sort of Nintendo fan mag but I don't have any details other than what I mentioned.

I definitely had this. Also seeing the cover reminded me of a magazine I had that I can't seem to identify. I think it had a handheld focus since it featured a walkthrough on the Crash Bandicoot GBA game. Maybe it was a UK magazine, the Barnes & Noble where I live stocks quite a few of those.

This magazine had lower production quality than the average late 90s Cash Money album cover huh

"Devil May Cry 2" and "masterpiece" should only be used in the same sentence if the phrase "is far, far from a" is between them.

I'm just confused because the issue was supposedly cancelled just before release but the digital version has the layout of the revival instead of what they were using at the time with the letter grades.
Edit: nvm I'm thinking about the February 09 issue

I remember reading part of this issue when a friend at a summer program I went to had it. Nice to see it finally here!

I figured "Nintendo Kennel Club" would've been a dead giveaway.

Was this supposed to be some kind of indirect advertisement for Nintendogs?
It's about as direct as you can get without outright stating it

Issue 151 is going to remain elusive I see...

I used to have tons of these. I loved the sections on imports and the price guides but the images they drew for the gen 2 Pokemon were hilariously bad (Magcargo looked like it was made of grape jelly).

The end of an era. It was never quite the same after the revival (although there were some pretty big differing opinions in the Review Crew that put the Assassin's Creed 1 review to shame).

Kirby Air Ride is just okay.
You heard me.

The last issue before the last (for a while) rebrand. Never was a fan of the look they went with but at least I still stuck by the magazine before the whole 80 page letter grade era.

Anybody know where the shoutbox went?

There are so many errors in the Pokemon section it's almost unbelievable. At least it's not as bad as that NGamer article where the writer thought Doraemon was the earliest version of Pokemon.

I've been indexing a buch of Diehard GameFan/Gamefan mags lately and I found it shocking the # of games being featured that were never released. It seems to be at least one (and usually more) every issue.
I assume Sonic X-treme was on a lot of covers too. Maybe Thrill Kill as well even though that game was technically released (although not officially).

If you're confused by my comment remember what the game on the cover was ultimately released as
