  1. Geeeeeze, I remember this mag. I'm glad to have it because memories, but...it was bad. It was reeeally bad. The only thing I distinctly remember about it was an article about being cool for women...which included advice about about picking the right email service. Because that's what women wanted in the year 2000. A guy with a hot email address.
  2. Am I missing something, or are filters not working properly? See attached for example.
  3. THANK YOU. I saw this movie in six different theatres and no one had any idea what I was talking about when I asked for this. SWEET CLOSURE AT LAST.
  4. God, I remember this SO clearly. I used to daydream about having a room filled with Nintendo stuff.
  5. Video killed the radio star and internet killed the magazine star.
  6. This was my favorite era of PC gaming. So much ground was being broken every day! I remember having to buy 3D Accelerator cards that were separate from your graphics cards, because graphics cards couldn't handle the load by themselves. And I remember "multiplayer networks" which were unified lobby systems that let you connect to other players to find multiplayer games, because game companies hosting their own servers wasn't a thing (whether or not it becoming a thing is a positive is a debate with no black or white answer). WON (the World Opponent Network), TEN (the Total Entertainment Network), MPlayer, Gamespy, and my personal favorite, Segasoft's HEAT.net (I still haver their multiplayer start-up kit on my shelf).
  7. STILL pining away for Space Quest 7. Larry came back, why can't Roger?
  8. That's consistent with my memories, too. I had their Duke Nukem and Quake guides. If I recall correctly they used to include CD-ROMS attached to the back cover.
  9. Fascinating stuff. I had no idea. PC game makers used to make hint books all the time. Seirra even advertised their hint books IN their adventure games a few times.
  10. People looking at the newsstands: "Totally Unauthorized, they're rebels!" Brady editors candidly: "we BEGGED for authorization and no one would ever give it to us."
  11. Unfortunately there are still 40 issue unscanned.
  12. Holy crap, this sounds like a disaster! Still, I'm adding it to my library because I love strategy guides, and Quake was such a monster hit in its time it gives me super-nostalgia of the golden age of PC gaming.
  13. HAHA that explanation was completely worth the confusion. I'm dying!
  14. HUH! I remember these books, I think I had a couple. I didn't know the were made by any relation to Jeff Rovin though. The stuff I learn on this site is wild!
  15. Ah, I love stuff like this. Little pack-ins and supplemental stuff that was always tossed in and poly-bagged with magazines and comics in the 90's and 2000's. So much nostalgia!
  16. Ha, I guess I didn't have all of his books. I had all of the "How to Win at..." books, but I never knew he did anything beyond that. But it was much harder to follow people and their work before the web came along.
  17. I had all of Rovin's books. Dude did a pretty good job of explaining strategies.
  18. OOH! Another big favorite from my collection! Thrilled to have this in digital!
