  1. Rough usually means the cover is loose, off, or taped on, sometimes it means stuff is cut out, etc.

It varies, I'll make a judgment call and withhold any that would be too crappy to bother scanning. I only keep them around in case someone is desperate to have the issue in their collection.

  2. What are you looking to get for some of these? I would be willing to grab what is needed for scanning. The "In Posession" of the magazines was figured out last stummer, so it's hard to know how accurate it is now with different members being around and fewer people scanning.

All I'm looking to get is a list of which ones are needed and an address to send them to.

  3. I'm not necessarily looking to be rid of these (they're trade bait too), but I'm happy to donate any of these that are within Retromag's rules and are not currently "in possession" of a scanner.

The only thing i ask is if you can help with some of the shipping cost.

Of course, I'd handle all shipping! You might be able to cram them all in a medium flat rate priority mail box. Should I PM you my address and you tell me what I owe you?

  5. You could try Book Collector and Comic Collector. They probably don't have all the data on old game magazines but you can create a category for each title and keep your collection organized. With a little work and what what Retromags has already, you could have all the information and screenshots you need.

Maybe I'll look into that, would anyone else be interested?

  6. I'd talk to E-Day if I were you as he is a scanner extraordinnaire and will ensure they get scanned and put up here for everyone to enjoy. You'll get the credit for providing the magazine as well ....

Yeah, by all means. I don't want to take anything away that a scanner will want, my offer is just to give whatever's unclaimed a good home if you're throwing them out anyway.

  7. Thanks for letting us know about this issue Redeye. The Gamepros and the EGM's are my favorite magazines and one big reason why I live here. I spent a fortune on them off the newstand. They had the best writers and reviewers and the biggest magazines that kept me reading them months after I purchased them.

Why do you two want to keep the magazine so bad? Do you guys have a collection of these things? If so I could understand because I admit to having a shelf full of Archie comics. If you want to hold on to these magazines for 100 years when they'll truly be rare items, you would need to bag them.

Yes, I have a very large collection of game magazines, about 19 short boxes full. I'm a journalist and historian, I use them as a reference library.

Not a big deal if someone wants this one more than me, I just like having them around. For me it's a lot easier to go to my files and pull a magazine than it is for me to flip through digital versions if I need some information.

  8. I don't think there so rare. When I was in grade 7 this magazine was available in our yearly magazine drive. I had 12 issues between 1990 and 1991 but not the first four issues. I always figured these were printed in Canada so I felt a little bit of patriotism over them.

Anyway the covers were printed on not so good paper when compared to EGM and Gamepro which explains the lower price and I should take a look at them again one day. I gave them to a friend when I moved years ago so I would kinda be borrowing them.

Jake: the later issues aren't too hard to find, but the early ones are rare. I have about 15 issues, but my earliest is #7.

  9. Also, I said this in the shout box, but I'll say it here too: if anyone wants to buy the actual GamePro #2 and get it scanned, I'm willing to throw $20 at the cause. I'm also willing to be the person who buys it, if it's easier to just donate to me, but since I'm not an established member here I wouldn't expect that level of trust yet. This issue seems to be the hardest one to find, and I'd really like to get the scan out of the way.

  10. Jake, I sent you a PM too, but the one you bought is not GamePro #2, it's GamePro #7. You should try to get your money back if you can, because that issue is pretty common (I have three of them!) and not at all worth what you paid

  11. Since this is an interest check and you'd looking for opinions, I think magazines should be of a much higher priority. I don't imagine there is much information in those strategy guides that you can't already find on the web, whereas it seems every single magazine through the 1999 cut-off has at least a few things that are not common knowledge.

If someone has the time and patience to scan hundreds of pages, I'd much rather it be several old magazines than a guide with the same information I can find on GameFAQs.
