  1. I have never been good at Sonic games. For whatever reason I die off before level 5 or so every time and just don't have the incentive to play again. Now with Mario type games, I can play those all day long (working my way through Mario All-Stars level for level to get that special reward that was hinted at in Gamefan oh so many years ago, anyone know what it was?). I recently replayed Contra and Super C and beat both of those after about 2 to 3 hours of re-acclimating myself to that type of gameplay (been spoiled by newer generation stuff that is simply made easier from the get go). It was fun going back and replaying the classics like that and wondering how many newbies were trying these games out for the first time and realising that they were getting their butts handed to them fairly often. Not trying to sound elitist, just saying that games nowadays are made easier from the beginning and are hardly ever programmed to be hard (some are, not saying they aren't).
  2. Over on Kotaku.com they have a vid of the first, of four, animated graphic novels based on the various Wolfenstein games. The graphic novel is done in the style of Madworld, black and white and red, pretty interesting. http://kotaku.com/5309482/wolfenstein-the-...-novel-part-one
  3. It is on the forum index there. You should be able to see it.
  4. There is no hurry. We will all be here when you get them up.
  5. Hmmm, this is interesting, it is a real life remake of one level of the original Donkey Kong, the kicker here is that it was done with Post It notes (couldn't they find a cheaper medium to work with? Those things aren't cheap). What does everyone think? Gotta credit Kataku for the scoop here
  6. Here are the only two Consumer Guide's that we have available here so far (other than yours, I haven't seen any listed as coming either): http://www.retromags.com/forums/Consumer-G...in-file707.html http://www.retromags.com/forums/Consumer-G...de-file713.html The one guide having the same stuff in it was fairly popular to do back in the day, reprinting material (Game Player's did this with their Encyclopedia's) with a different cover. Never heard of doing it with just a simple background color change though (maybe it is a case of one is a first print and the second one is from another print run?). That other guide, I have never heard of, I am definitely sure it is needed and would be appreciated.
  7. evchim, your stuff is extremely rare from what I can discern, can you scan the covers so that we can get a better understanding of what you have? I am almost positive that no one else has any of it too, but a cover scan will help anyone that may be already scanning it. Personally, I would love to see your stuff available. Scan a few pages and edit them (it is alright if you are not comfortable editing, we can get help with that part) and put them in a zip or something and upload them to rapidshare or something and someone will check them out. Thanks.
  8. First of all, I forgot to mention something earlier. Thank you for coming and asking about it first, while it isn't required by any means, it is greatly appreciated when someone lets us know they are promoting RM, it helps us all work together towards a common goal. We have another blogger here, Count_Zero who does a regular blog post based on his reading of various mags and he has a pretty good thing going there. It is great to see quality promotion like what you and CZ are doing, it really is appreciated. The article you posted on your blog looks great, I am glad that you mentioned that it is not a requirement to donate or even join (a lot of people think we are forcing members to do stuff here to access files-that is not the case, any road blocks in place are purely on the shoulders of the download services available like Rapidshare and MegaUpload). I look forward to reading more on your blog. By the way, make sure to put a link to your blog in your signature so more people may see it and visit it.
  9. Ubisoft, not one to sit on their laurels and watch others with a good idea pass them by (or to even take off on their own if need be) have decided to finally jump into the Super Smash Brothers type genre with TMNT Smash-Up. Apparently it will draw on all areas of lore for the heroes in a half shell with characters from the various cartoons, comics, toy line and even other games that have come before. Kotaku as more information available on their site. OK, how many out there are wanting a Disney version of Super Smash Bros? I can see the back of the box now: Beat the Jonas Brothers with their own instruments! Pound Hannah Montana! er wait...um yeah, back to you for comments...
  10. It is not always fun making these news posts, like this one, it is from Kotaku.com concerning the possibility of DLC for MK vs DCU, according to Ed Boon, it is probably not going to happen. Read the full article below. Credit Kotaku.com
  11. I know VG&CE had a holographic pic on their front for Sonic 2 (it was like the Road Rash one on EGM around issue 44 or so). I don't remember Sonic CD gracing EGM's cover though, did it? By issue 66 or so they were featuring Donkey Kong Country and early 32-Bit titles on the cover of EGM.
  12. No reason to apologize, I just meant my response to sound like one of those people that wrote rap lyrics and such were also so dedicated that they were involved here at RM. I didn't mean for it to come off as being upset or something (it was meant as an inside joke at Phillyman).
  13. Looks pretty cool. What does everyone else think?
  14. One of those kids is running the site here...
  15. That EGM your referring to is not the biggest they ever put out (up around issue 65 or 66 they were even bigger at about 350 pages or so).
  16. My how Nintendo's attitude has changed since the days of the Game Genie! I remember when they would have sued and sued a company out of existence for even thinking of doing something like this to games on one of their consoles.
  17. First up, do you have a link? While no official word has ever been made, I am sure there are some base lines as to where we would prefer not to be promoted. Stuff like "adult" sites, rom sites stuff like that (we are trying our best to build bridges and it is hard when we have associations with stuff like that going on (course we can't stop someone from doing what they want on their site). Go ahead and post a link here, you won't get in trouble, I am asking for one. Thanks.
  18. Welcome to Retromags Rew and evchim, do either of you need help scanning or are you looking to lend your mags out for someone to scan for you and return (obviously with such rare material I am sure you would want it back)?
  19. I have you beat there Thor. I do computer work but here lately it has slowed down to a trickle (my ratio of free vs paid work is at about 90/10) and I am going to start looking for something a little more regular soon. Your not slacking anyhow, just take care of you and yours, Retromags will be here when you get back.
  20. Hmm, anyone here fancy completing a set of Nintendo cartridges? Kevincal? Anyone? Well, if you do, get ready to cough up some serious cash as one of the only 26 made Nintendo World Championship cartridges just sold for $17,500.00. What is funny is, I remember people complaining about games like God of War on PSP being only 4 hours or so long (that only cost about $40 new), or the fact that you could beat Resident Evil in under 8 hours (I am not sure exactly how much under but I know it is a lot, around 4 hours too) and that was about $50 new. Well, you would think for $17K+ that you would have the penultimate in gaming in your hands. Nope. The game lasts 6 minutes and 21 seconds and is just a series of short segments of Super Mario Bros, Tetris and Rad Racer. WOW. Pic and quote thanks to Videogames Yahoo.com
  21. The problem with losing a company like Activision is that they have a couple of very hot licenses right now in Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. Sure TH is not as hot as he was back in the day but a lot of people still buy games with those two titles on them. Sure they make a lot of fluff that most gamers could simply ignore and still live happy gaming lives but they bring a lot of casual, family gamers to the table too with their licenses. Of course they are not as big as EA, no one is as far as 3rd parties go (I mean, technically, aren't they bigger than Sega?). They just hold a lot of clout right now and well, Sony can't afford to lose that many customers in the future. Valve, well, I am not much of a FPS gamer so I don't really mind them that much, I respect the games they have released, just don't play them.
  22. I have been meaning to scan and upload that issue, just been getting sidetracked talking to the Father and all. Pretty cool issue, besides Stevie being in it (I am not much for blondes myself).
  23. OK, if you have any Electronic Games from the 90's then please contact me as I need one article scanned from it for a collection that will be made available here on Retromags, hopefully in time for a special event. Here is a list of what is already in possession and ready to fly, just need to fill in the holes. I need an article titled "The Kunkel Report" so if you can help with this, it would not only be greatly appreciated but also will surely go a long way in showing our respect for Bill Kunkel. I will make sure that everyone that donates to this sub project will be credited in the initial announcement so please, if you can, help out. v1i1 Oct 92 (ter from http://www.zaponline.org) v1i2 Nov 92 (triverse) v1i4 Jan 93 (triverse) v1i5 Feb 93 (triverse) v1i6 Mar 93 (ter from http://www.zaponline.org) v1i7 Apr 93 (ter from http://www.zaponline.org) v1i8 May 93 (triverse) v1i9 Jun 93 (triverse) v1i11 Aug 93 (triverse) Thank you to all who can help out.
  24. Your editing looks wonderful, clean and clear. The only thing I would request you change is the width your saving them at, your currently at 1280, is there anyway you can save them at 1440? I will go ahead and start the upload of your Mario Paint guide and have the release information changed over to you on it. Thanks. Also, I will send you the info for the FTP so that you can just upload straight away without going through the extra hoops.
  25. Bioware is onto issue #1 of Act 2 (read issue #10) of their webcomic series for Star Wars The Old Republic. Anyone been checking it out? Don't worry if you missed the first 9 issues, they are available to read and catch up on this. http://www.swtor.com/media/webcomic/
