  1. Well since they included the guitar yeah I'd say the U-Force would be there as with the Power Glove even though both were total crap.

Oh wait I mean "So Bad!"

I think what you mean is that the power glove was total crap in the hands of us mere mortals but "so bad" in the hands of Lucas, may his awesomeness rein forever.

  2. Wow. OK. Let's see...

    Anything by Terry Pratchett.

    Anything by Orson Scott Card.

Anything by Alastair Reynolds (*amazing* sci-fi - you've got to read his "Revelation Space" novels, starting with Revelation Space.)

Anything by Neal Stephenson (Anathem is great, try _Snow Crash_ or _Diamond Age first.)

    Anything by Robert A. Heinlein

Anything by Tim Powers (this guy will blow yer mind! I recommend starting out with _Last Call_)

China Mieville - The Scar, Perdido Street Station

Peter F. Hamilton - Night's Dawn Trilogy (*epic* sci-fi. You'll probably find the "trilogy" broken up in to 6 books)

Right now I am concurrently reading Neal Stephenson's new book Anathem, and two re-reads - O.S. Card's Worthing Chronicles, and Alastair Reynolds Redemption Ark.

    Also, hurray on 100 posts!

  3. I know a dude from High School that was "Skitching" back when the idea was new (It has been out there for al ong time, just not main stream) and he wiped out. It almost killed him. He required surgery to his left quad, right calf, 2 facial surgerys, and a lot of stiches across his chest and back. He seriously looked like someone put him through a meat grinder for months.

I knew this dude who was skitching back before anyone else was even skating and he made the car he was skitching on (driven, it so happens, by the town bully) crash into a manure truck. Oh wait, that was Back to the Future.

Anyway, that all sounds rather fun what with the skitchin' (available in the Tony Hawk series since the first Underground, btw) and the tasin'. I just hope that the Skate franchise doesn't start to get more and more ridiculous and unrealistic. We already have the aforementioned Tony Hawk series for that.

  4. I don't think it would necessarily be the best program to use for CAD, but a great, free 3D program for 3D images, animation, and even game design is Blender. The learning curve is a bit steep at first, but it is a darn powerful application with an active community that is absolutely free. You can check it out at www.blender.org

Just thought I would give a little shout out to one of my favorite programs.

  5. I use MS Access. Each system gets a different table. I mark down the title of the game, the year it came out, If it has a case or not, if it has a manual or not, the overall condition of the game, the condition of the box, manual and disc (where applicable) on a scale of 1 to 10, and any notes about damage, if it's a variant, or if it's still sealed. Works perfectly for me :)

I think that Access or the OpenOffice equivalent would be the most thorough solution. Thanks for this thread, btw. I never even thought about cataloging my game collection. I really need to do the same thing with my books!

  6. These aren't in any particular order:

    Lunar 2

    Final Fantasy II

    Final Fantasy X

    Chrono Trigger

    Dragon Warrior VIII

Also, I may be adding FF XII to that list. I just picked up a used copy and need to get started on it.

  7. OK, so I am really in to video games and have been gaming since the days of my Atari and Colecovision. With the current generation of game consoles, however, things have gotten *really* expensive. The consoles are pretty darn expensive -- so expensive that I haven't been able to afford any of the new consoles -- and the games aren't cheap either. I'm a public school teacher with three kids and a wife so I don't really have much of a budget for gaming. I know you can save money by buying used games and renting (especially from GameFly), but I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas on creative ways that I could fund my gaming hobby. Any ideas?

  8. This wouldn't really be a port, I guess, but I think it would be really great to see a Pilot Wings update on the Wii. The Wii remote seems like it would be perfect for that game and I loved the SNES and N64 versions.

Also, I would love to see an updated version of Herzog Zwei (orginally for Genesis). That would be awesome. Ooh, and how about Rampart?! Did anyone ever play that game? That would be cool in 3D.

  9. I just bought my wife a Zune and, you know, even though it isn't as sexy as an iPod I actually prefer it. When my iPod finally craps out I am going to get a Zune. Now think about the vitality that the XBox and XBox 360 have brought to the world of video gaming. It pains me a little bit to say it, especially about the 360, because I am a major Sony fanboy, but there is no denying it. The way I see it, Microsoft could definitely be successful in the handheld department. The first version of the hardware might not be the greatest (as seems to be the case with many things Microsoft) but after working the kinks out I think they could come up with something pretty decent.

I think that the prospect of Microsoft coming up with a portable is even more likely now that Apple has pushed gaming on the iPhone so much.

  10. The future really isn't looking hot for any form of print media right now and EGM is no exception. I really dread the end of the run for the magazine (seeing GFW magazine go was really sad) but, honestly, fewer people are reading the magazines now. The readership is for the most part migrating to online content which is sad because, as great as the websites are, I still enjoy reading a magazine. Same goes with the morning newspaper. I just wish more people felt the same way I do.

  11. Oh lord. The first Ninja Gaiden for NES.

I still shouldn't be allowed to play that game from how mad it made me.

Yes. Ninja Gaiden = the hard. Also, Bionic Commando, Ghosts and Goblins, Super Ghosts and Goblins, etc. Capcom made some crazy hard games back in the 8 bit & 16 bit eras.

  12. Is this logo change not symbolic of the life blood draining out of Nintendo? I mean, I know they are making a buttload of money and selling Wii's like crazy, but can anyone honestly look at the Wii and the sorts of games being offered on the system and say that it is in the same league as the NES or SNES? Nintendo began to lose steam with the Game Cube and continues that trend. I would have no respect anymore for the company if it wasn't for what they are doing with the DS. And even that might change with the DSi and whatever comes after.
