  1. Incidentally, 420 informed me thast he recently acquired Issue 3 of Nintendo Fun Club and will soon be releasing a full proper set on google.

Regarding donations, I donate to the site because it has the noble goal of preserving retro video game magazines. While other magazines are recognized by libraries nationwide by having their issues bound and preserved for long term storage, video game mags are usually ignored. This project aims to make them freely available to anyone who wants to access them. I support this goal and that is why I have donated in the past. While the idea of owning physical copies is tempting, if I wanted to do that I would bid on these auctions myself. I donate because I support the goal of keeping these publications accessible.

  2. Previously posted: Super Paper Mario (Wii) & Star Fox 64 (Wii VC)

I have since gotten: Survival Kids (GBC), Pokemon Yellow (GBC), and Punch Out!! (Wii VC)

I'll be picking up Pokemon Diamond on Tuesday as I have a fully paid pre-order at Gamestop.

I'll also probably buy Zelda II on Virtual Console as that is supposed to be available soon and I never made it very far on that game in the past. Finally, if Actraiser is released for VC here in the states as it was abroad I'll be very tempted to get it.

  3. Drinking is just bad for you, i have never and never will drink. come on guys! its not cool

Yeah, but the thing is, I don't really give a damn if it's bad for me. If you don't want to drink, then that's fine. More power to you. I certainly don't drink because I think it's "cool". I drink because I enjoy the reduced sense of self-awareness.

  4. We've already had a thread about favorite type of soda/pop/juice but if you enjoy a refreshing intoxicating beverage, what is your beverage of choice?

My own tastes tend to fluctuate a lot throughout the year. Right now I favor anything with Tequila, which for me is mainly margaritas, tequila shots, and the occasional tequila sunrise.

I've gone through phases of enjoying many other things in the past as well such as:

Whiskey (mixed with Coke or Dr. Pepper)

    Rum (& coke)

Vodka (mixed with just about anything but most frequently sprite or orange juice)

    Gin (& tonic)

Beer (usually I buy cheap like Miller Lite, Bud Lite, or High Life but I used to drink Shiner Bock and Ziegenbock when I lived in Texas)

    and of course...

Wine (usually dry wines, mainly cabernet, pinot noir, merlot, syrah, and occasionally chardonnay).

  5. So what's your pick for favorite portable system of all time?

I'm voting for Game Boy Advance but it was a tough call between that and the DS and the original Game Boy. I'm really voting for the GBA because it can plays favorite games from the GB, GBC, GBA, and ports of NES and SNES games. That adds up to the best library for any portable IMHO. If I weren't such a sucker for original Game Boy titles I probably would have voted for the DS. The DS is great and may become my favorite given more time and more titles but for now, I'm sticking with my GBA vote.

  6. I will have to hook up my Genesis this week and see if i can even get the thing to work, Its mostly for nostalgia

That can be fun. I was amazed that I was able to get an ancient Coleco Telstar (Pong) to work on an HDTV.

  7. I picked up Super Paper Mario today and just took a break after playing for just over the 2 hours that it took to finish the first chapter. I also downloaded Star Fox 64 on Wii Virtual Console. I plan to buy Pokemon Diamond later this month and possibly track down a copy of Survival Kids on GBC.

Philly: Does that Sega Channel Adapter still do anything or is it simply for nostalgia?

  8. I've read recently in various news outlets that Guitar Hero 3 and a Katamari Damacy sequel (titled "Beautiful Katamari") will be coming to the Wii later this year. I don't know about anyone else but I think that this is great as both of these acclaimed series have never been available on a Nintendo system before. I've been borrowing a neighbor's PS2 to play the precursors to these titles recently and I must say that they should be welcome additions to the Wii's software library.

Specifically, Katamari seems like a natural fit for the Wii given its focus on non-traditional gaming and the motion sensing controller. My only concern is that the translation to motion sensing/tilt control from dual analog could lead to a drop in precision control, but I still think that it could be a great thing.

As for Guitar Hero 3, there is some skepticism about the title living up to its name since it is not being developed by Harmonix. It seems like it would be hard to screw that game up though, especially since there's a clear template to follow. All that I can say is that it better damn well come with a wireless guitar controller, perhaps that the Wii remote can be inserted into.

  9. I got rid of cable a long time ago, if anyone wants to know how to download all tv shows and/or movies that even just come in theaters let me know I can show you how to get all movies and shows free, I told MBJ and other moderators of this site that I have been hacking for along time, if you guys need to know how to get this stuf let me know by this forum mail

I don't really remember a discussion of that nature but my memory isn't exactly perfect.

As a reminder: The forum rules prohibit warez requests. That last post is more of a general warez offer with no specifics on how to obtain warez so I won't remove it. However, future discussions on this topic should be limited to private messages between users. This rule is in place to protect Retromags.com from having to deal with legal entanglements.

  10. When you play a video game, do you try to finish everything 100% every time or do you simply finish the game once (beating the final boss/making it through all the levels) without going back?

I typically try to get 100%, especially if there are unlockable extras involved. The last few games that I got 100% on were WarioWare: Smooth Moves, New Super Mario Bros, Tetris DS, and Mario Kart DS. I'm also going back through Super Mario 64 and trying to get all 120 stars again but it is tougher than I remember.

  11. Now what I want to know is where the others have gone? And why did they take John?! He saw his 'father' and now we won't know for awhile.

I really don't have a clue as to where the others went unless it was back to Alcatraz Island. As for Locke, I have a feeling that he has joined the others. The things that he said to Kate seemed to hint at this.

  12. Heroes will return on April 23rd. In the next episode: Linderman reveals his vision of the future to Nathan; Mr. Bennet is held captive by Candice and Thompson, while Sylar captures Isaac. Nathan and Claire finally meet.

Last episode: "With the election looming, Nathan has a disturbing meeting with Linderman and faces a difficult decision. Niki tries to stop Jessica. Hiro finds the sword with help from Nathan and Ando, but then discovers a dark future. Claire finds answers while her surrogate father gets into trouble with Primatech. Sylar faces off against Mohinder and Peter. "

  13. i hate that smoke monster. what the hell is it?

Well, that's one of the big mysteries. All that we know so far is that visual representations of people's memories float around inside of it, it can (possibly) take other forms or cause people to see things that aren't really there, it can (and often does) kill people, it has been purported to be a "security system", and last night we learned that the others (apparently) don't know what it is but it doesn't like sonic barriers.

  14. One more key prediction: Charlie will die in the not too distant future. Desmond's flashbacks (or flash forwards?) clearly forecast that this is unavoidable and unless they are willing to throw this major principle to the wind, Charlie is history. Besides, they haven't really done anything useful with his character in quite some time other than introduce the unavoidable death prediction a few episodes back.

Also, if you are interested in learning more about what could be a revealing future development, look up the characters Horace and Olivia, who haven't yet been introduced but will supposedly be the subjects of a Dharma backstory episode that predates anything that we have seen on the show before by decades. I'm excited for this one. My prediction is that these characters control the smoke monster (based on the episode's title: The Man Behind the Curtain".)

  15. The last CD I got was a promotional CD soundtrack to Twilight Princess that came with my Nintendo Power subscription. Other than that it was probably "Get Lonely" by The Mountain Goats.

  16. Well, the series is only supposed to last for 5 seasons so it should be about half way through.

As for what will happen, I really don't know. I think that Michael will definitely re-emerge and find redemption (the producers have hinted as much). I also think that it will be interesting when we start to see more about the people in the outside world who are hunting for the survivors and Desmond. Then there are things that make me wonder how they will possibly be explained like the monster and the four toed foot statue.

One thing is certain: whatever happens, I will be watching
