  1. You may be thinking of N Force, later renamed SNES Force. This was a mag published by Europress (basically the same team as Newsfield).
  2. I popped into the Mean Machines Archive one day and noticed meppi's thread on Maximum and Sega Saturn Mag scans, which in turn brought me to Retromags. So, it's all meppi's fault that I haven't finished issue 3 of Retroaction yet
  3. There's some good choices here, and some of them are definitely among my fave movies: Chungking Express, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, etc. But my all time fave movie has to be Carlito's Way. Directed superbly by Brian de Palma, with fine acting from both Pacino and Penn. I just fell for the great direction, acting, set pieces... that haunting, sombre music score. And that pool scene and breathtaking finale just clinched it for me.
  4. My fave point and click adventure ever has to be Blade Runner (based on one of my fave films). Close runner ups must include Beneath a Steel Sky and Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Yeah, there's a definite sci-fi element to these games, which can't be a coincidence. Additionaly, the adventure games that I gravitate towards all have a superb plot with great twists and surprises, interesting lead characters, engaging NPCs, and, most importantly, satisfying gameplay.
  5. This is top secret info... [whispers] but I'll let you guys know that there's a very special Mother feature in issue 3 of Retroaction.[/whispers] If you're a fan of the games then it's not to be missed.
  6. Is RE4 a Survival Horror?? RE1 and 2 were without doubt the best in the series, though. The original Alone in the Dark was good as well. I have heard good things about Sweet Home over the years, but can't say I've ever managed to see it.
  7. Oh, yeah. There's no doubt Digitiser was well recognised - being freely available to millions of viewers helps. No doubt the publishing industry resented this fact. There's some articles on Stuart Campbell's website that he wrote for Digitiser (http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/world/digi.htm). He also states in his pages that Digitiser had "a phenomenal readership of around 1.5 million," but was "almost totally ignored by the games industry in favour of print mags with circulations 2% of the size."
  8. TOP 10 webistes 1) Retroaction magazine As it's our (my) website, and I'm supposed to be in charge of it, I spend most of my 'net time here. 2) Retromags While I don't post much or scan magazines as much as I'd like, I do lurk around and keep in touch with what's going on. 3) Gnome's Lair Gnome is a great blogger and a great guy who helped start up Retroaction. He is being missed while he's away on military service. 4) Retro Gamer The UK's only commercial retrogaming mag. Again, it's mostly lurking around here. It's far too busy for me to keep up with anyway. 5) Just One More Game Gabe is a great blogger and freelance writer. He's appeared in Retro Gamer on a few occasions. 6) Matty on Games Another fine blogger, who happens to help out with Retroaction's games review. A good, witty writer. 7) PD ROMS I visit this site daily to get the latest homebrew news. 8) Retro Remakes A great source of Retro Remakes news, chat, and everything else. 9) CPC Wiki After the demise of CPC Zone, this is now the only place for Amstrad CPC enthusiasts to visit. Again, a lurker in the forums. 10) CaptainD's PC Gaming Blog Another contributor to Retroaction. A very active blogger who covers PC games new and old. Plus many more...
  9. Ah, Bad Influence. That brings back memories... Not necessarily good ones, though. One irritation was the presenter’s insistence on saying "sness". This and the fact that it looked like a children’s show through and through didn't help - teenagers don't like being patronised. No, GamesMaster was the videogaming TV show to watch in the early 90s and nothing came close to the formula, and presenting, they had going there. As for the Bad Influence mag, well you'll be lucky to find any copies of these around. I don't think it sold well at all - hence why there were only a few issues. Teletext mags didn't really get a good press, either, although that was a bit unfair as they were probably more professional than most printed mags. It would be nice to see archives of Digitiser or GameCentral appear (GameCentral even still exists here), but I think archiving teletext mags might be even harder to do than rare printed mags. Perhaps the companies or people behind them have the old issues backed up somewhere.
  10. A fascinating read and I look forward to future posts. Thanks to everyone involved, and especially Bill Kunkel for his support of Retromags. It's great when people from the industry take time out of their schedule to help out with these kind of projects.
  11. I'm pretty sure Future Publishing would not be very happy to learn that the Super Play and Your Sinclair DVDs are up there for sale. After all, they told Mort to drop them from his site.
  12. Oh, man, that is so wrong. And yet, when the guy who scanned in the Amstrad Action and Amstrad Computer User magazines, listed AA & ACU DVDs for sale, eBay gave him a cease and desist order. What gives with this guy?
  13. Don't know if you guys have seen this, but I was browsing through eBay and came across something very interesting... Sega Saturn Magazine scans DVD for sale. Surely, these are meppi's scans??? Plus, if you check out the guy's ebay shop, you will find other magazine scan DVDs for sale. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COLLECTION-OF-OFFICI...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. Hi Philyman, can't seem to send you a PM. Well it doesn't show in my sent folder, anyway. Can you let me know if you're getting them OK?

  15. Hi everyone, This is such a great website with some of the hardest workers on the web. I wish I could contribute more with my own mag scaning, but I committed myself to another project, which I thought you might like to know about. The magazine, which is called Retroaction, is about to launch; we are putting the final touches to issue one. Retroaction is an interactive PDF magazine featuring old and new games on retro platforms: Sinclair, Commodore, Amstrad, DOS, Arcade, Atari, Sega, Nintendo, NEC, MSX, Acorn, Apple, and more. We have been working on issue one for a few months now, and expect it completed within the next week or so. The magazine will be available as a free PDF download and will be around 30mb (compressed) for around 62 pages. The Retroaction team consists of a handful of writers from around the world. Our main goal is to cater to retro gamers all over the globe who are looking for a good balanced magazine; one that is easy to get hold of, has articles and reviews on new retro games, old classic ones, and those forgotten games lost in retro time. Our website ( http://www.retroactionmagazine.com/ ) is up and running, where you will find the home page (current issue box-out with magazine highlights and a link to the download page, as well as any major retro news), the magazine download section (with contents of the first issue), a page about some of the magazine's writers, a link to the magazine's forum, and a retrolinks page. So go to the website, look around (it'll only take a minute or so. No, really, it will). P.s. Oh, and I would very much like to have a feature/interview all about the website and the projects in issue two. So let me know what you would like to see in that. Thanks for your time, Neil Reive Editor, Designer http://www.retroactionmagazine.com/
  16. Nice work there anss123. I've always been a fan of CVG and it's nice to see an issue scanned and uploaded. I've scanned the missing pages and uploaded them to my Windows Live pages: http://cid-10d5da2f14515be0.skydrive.live....px/CVG/r045.jpg http://cid-10d5da2f14515be0.skydrive.live....px/CVG/r058.jpg I've tried to keep the same quality, dimensions, etc.
  17. I was not much of an RPG fan until I played Shining Force. An epic of a game, which I have played several times over the years.
  18. Indeed, a well deserved apointment. Well done, meppi.
  19. I think the main reason that there's no computer mags here is that they (Commodore, Sinclair, Amstrad, etc.) are all well represented elsewhere. I can't speak for everyone, but it seems that scanners tend to concentrate on mags that aren't around anywhere, especially console mags.
  20. It's more or less the links above with a little info about them, but here you go... http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...endID=231708316
  21. There are some UK magazines here. I've uploaded some MEGA (Mega Drive magazine) scans here. There is also the excellent Sega Saturn magazine and MAXIMUM scans done by meppi here as well. A lot of other sites have UK magazine scans, although not zipped/cbr'd like Retromags, and can be viewed/downloaded a page at a time. The links below are pulled from a recent blog I did on retro mags (where Retromags.com is included, of course). Amstrad CPC scans at CPC Wiki http://www.cpcwiki.com/index.php/Mags Spectrum scans at World of Spectrum ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines Amiga scans at Amiga Magazine Rack http://amr.abime.net/ A selection of Commodore Format scans at Commodore Format Library http://www.commodoreformat.co.uk/ A selection of Zzap! scans as well as the Zzuperstore where you can purchase DVDs full of magazine scans at Zzap64.co.uk http://www.zzap64.co.uk/zzuperstore.html Edge is a bit of a no no, what with it being a Future Publishing mag. Mort had scanned - and placed DVDs up for sale on the Zzuperstore - the likes of Commodore Format, Super Play, and Your Sinclair mags, before being requested to take them down by Future. So people tend to leave Future Publishing's back catalogue alone from fear of getting cease and desist requests. So I don’t think he has scanned any Edge magazines, although I have got hold of issue 1 scans. However, I don't believe Future are too bothered if the mag is very old and there's no profit in the scans (e.g. Amstrad Action, Commodore Format Library, WOS's Your Sinclair scans, Amiga Magazine Rack's scans of Amiga Power, Amiga Format).
  22. The "Thank you" image has been added along with the images, zipped, changed to CBR and zipped again, ready to upload: issues 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 23, 28, 29, 30, Summer Special 93.
  23. As mentioned in another thread, I had begun scanning some issues of MEGA (a Sega Mega Drive mag from Future Publishing - there's also a great bit of info on the mag at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_(magazine) ) way back in Jan 07. I had mainly started this as a personal project - long before I discovered Retromags.com, which is excellent by the way - and it's been an ongoing thing ever since. So far, from memory, I have scanned completely random issues: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 23, 28, 29, 30... oh, and MEGA Gold Summer Special 1993, and probably another couple that slips my mind. The others are sitting around waiting to get scanned two years on, such is the burden of doing 100 hundred projects at the same time. The quality of the scans varies from just readable for the binded issues and okay for the debinded issues. I have uploaded a couple of issues of each on my 4shared space: issue 1 (binded scan) and issue 13 (debinded scan). Please beware that these scans are quite rough around the edges so to speak, but if they're of any use I'll upload the others that I have done. http://www.4shared.com/file/60518237/89410...-_Oct_1992.html http://www.4shared.com/file/60518923/9b621...-_Oct_1993.html
  24. I had started scanning some of the MEGA issues over the past year or so (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and others done...). I have issues 1-30 plus the MEGA Gold summer special 1993. The scans are of quite low quality, though, as I am impatient waitng for better quality scanning; and the mags, which are super A4 and have perfectbound spines, are hard to scan - still readable though...
