    Still need GI covers?

They're black for me too. Maybe a really dark gray. 1.0 theme here but I wish there was a theme with a darker background. Never been a fan of staring at white. *I like the logo on this theme so if we ever find darker themes I'd hope that could be reused.

    Still need GI covers?

Next batch of 5 is up. Have a question. What's your policy on the cover ads? Basically the last 2 I did and a few of the next 5 have half an ad covering the front cover. I can't pull them off since they're part of the spine and back cover. I don't want to destroy the mags and folding it out of the way leads to slight blurring of the left side. Not enough that I'm disappointed with my scans.
  3. 10 years should be a safe distance. The only problem is you have to find those mags while they're available and hold them for quite a while. Or scan them and keep it quiet...
  4. GI offers a digital subscription which I don't get because I prefer the mags to get away from the screen for a while. Not sure if the physical subscription gives access to both. Nor do I know how far back it goes. If they say they're taking care of it then it's less work for this site.

I have Shop too, I'm just trying to limit how much they need to be processed. The mags are all in excellent condition so there shouldn't be a need for touchups. Just white out the label area, crop the scanner bed, and call it a day. If they're crooked it's very slight and actually part of the cover. I guess with the way the site functions anyone is free to edit as needed so whatever. I'm still focused on getting through my backlog of games. If I can help a little here and there with some covers, cool.

    Still need GI covers?

After I posted I saw in the how-to guide where it says scanners have a problem with that color. I kinda cheated and edited it through PS. Just enough that it looks closer without leaving a lot of awful artifacts or ruining the lines on the rest of the picture.

    Still need GI covers?

Took me a couple hours to get the PC mostly restored and then I made some more scans. I cannot get the damn thing to make straight scans. It's like out of alignment but I wouldn't know how to fix that. So I nudged them down a bit and will try to crop the edges. The spine side is still wonky. Thing is if you look at the mags they aren't perfectly lined up in the first place. Nobody should care that much. I also rescanned IS44 (PSM) because the current image was poor but now that I look at my scan the bright orange still didn't come out right. Weird. Gonna resize before uploading and then see how difficult it is to get them in the database. Really wish the site liked FF more. *Second thought, I'll leave the size alone. It comes up big but Shop says it's still about 8x11 inches.

For preservation's sake you'd think the biggest and cleanest would be best. Then again who's going to need a picture the size of a tarp? And of course there's a little concern for the storage limits on site. There are 2 other pics I didn't link to the DB because I think I can do better. They aren't drastically crooked but still. If you think it's worth the effort let me know which mags could use a rescan at 1200px, I have everything from 11 to the end.
  9. Turns out a KB is more than I need. The Aimon gives me a wand with all the controls I normally use. The mouse controls the right stick and face buttons. It's a pretty good alternative considering my other option would be to give up the genre again.

I didn't see any size limits before uploading it. Just left it as it was. I can take care of the cropping but I'll let you guys take care of the rest since I can't do much through Firefox. Although I have to fix up that PC before I can scan the rest of the missing covers.
  11. HL2 was the first, last, and only. So many problems and when I called them on it they banned my account. I won't have forced updates that break my game. Won't allow malware like that to snoop through my drive looking to see what else is installed and then block me from playing because my ISP was down. When you get burned that bad, you stop gaming on PC. I've insisted that Steam users are either ignorant as to what Steam is doing to the system, or they are new to the platform and need everything done for them. Then just to be safe I played both Portal games on PS3 offline just so it couldn't phone home.
  12. I used to feel like that. I won't play shooters with analogs so the PC was the only place for them. Quake, UT, Doom, that kind of stuff. Never was into MMO's and stopped with RTS's around Tib Sun. Now that the games they offer are so similar and I solved the console mouse problem I don't see anything I'm missing by staying with consoles. It does still have free online though...
  13. For some posers, graphics are too important. PC would definitely take the lead on that due to how flexible the hardware is. I just want my games to work without too much hassle. PC doesn't offer me anything anymore.
  14. Don't worry, just helping the discussion along. Trust me it can get a lot worse on the other sites I visit. Those people ARE out to cause trouble. I'm fairly certain physical formats will not disappear like many assume. We want discs and the infrastructure isn't in place, plus the whole ownership thing. People read that and assume I refuse digital. But if there's no choice and the price is low I'm ok with it, stuff like Resogun, Stardust, Outlast, etc were all good. This is on consoles by the way, I'm not changing my stance on how bad/invasive Steam is. It is? There will be a used market for nearly everything. That's how the market works. Kinda weird they don't support that but maybe it's one of those things where people look the other way. Like emulation.
  15. All things I've encountered previously. We can't compare games to things like music or books. There are reasons certain things may go digital. Most cars only work with CD's so there's still a market for discs. But many people do use music in places where discs are inconvenient, like public transportation or during exercise for example. Plus when a disc is generally full of crap people can choose just the songs they like. Gaming however is primarily enjoyed at home. There isn't a need for portability (handhelds are a separate area we'll leave alone for now). They'll NEVER be that easy. Even if speeds increase the size of games will continue to grow, negating any advances. Another key point is music is $1 and you can copy it to other devices. Games aren't that flexible and they cost $20-$60. There's a major market for used/discounted copies, and the ability to rent/lend/sell. And what do we care about their profits? We aren't going to see the savings passed to us. It's the company's responsibility to manage costs, not cheat us out of half of our product so they can put more in the CEO's pockets. Now you did hit on a good point where we actually need both. Discs or any physical format will still be the primary method of delivery for most games. Especially big ones. Digital is a good way for us to get smaller games we wouldn't see otherwise. There's room for both and people have options. We really don't need to move from where we are right now.
