This is fantastic. I love PC Engine content, especially right from Japan since you reminded me about using Goggle Lens. Any contributor that put info in the "About This File" section instantly becomes one of my favorites on the site -- everybody that does it, even just once. It adds so much to the experience when you can find out some info before you download that file.

If you only read one "About This File" from me on this site, make sure it's this one:

    https://www.retromags.com/files/file/5499-complete-final-fantasy-iii-forbidden-game-secrets/

It's easily my favorite "what the literal 🤬 happened with this thing?!" moments in strategy guide history. :)

I appreciate the hard work putting these together, especially around the holidays. I absolutely love anyone that fills in the "About This File" section with content information or backstory on the scan itself. "huggles" back at you for that.

These aren't anything new from me. They just showed up on the 'Recently Updated' list because I edited some info in the data fields for a bunch of my old uploads. But I try and do all the backstory/commentary because it's fun and I figured maybe someone will get a kick out of knowing some of the random trivia I've discovered about these things over the years. That deserves to be preserved as much as the books themselves, I think. :)

  3. Quote

Tashiro Masashi Princess ga Ippai (starring a real-life convicted pervert, fined for voyeurism and jailed for drug use)

I, for one, am utterly shocked that a guy starring as himself in a video game called "Tashiro Masashi: Too Many Princesses" (I think I got that right, not 100% though, please advise) would turn out to be a real-life convicted pervert. I mean, what are the odds? :)

You're 100% right about that cover artwork being bland. Why isn't Dragon Quest IV artwork plastered all over the exterior of this thing? It's like they didn't even want it to stand out on the racks. :)

Well thank you so very much for uploading this book! In high school I had a laptop full of shareware games, and I'm fairly certain every single game in this book was among those. And man, do I wish I had this. I love the visuals to guide you through the various games. Years later, I still need this book though, because the siblings I used to play these games with have sadly passed away since. They were pretty much the only reason I ever got through any of these games. I was always playing coop following their lead, as I never had any sense of direction...

You're very welcome! Also, my condolences on the passing if your siblings. But if this scan went a little way towards keeping their memories alive for you, then I'm so happy you found it here. :)

I can't leave my computer all weekend because I never know when dablais is going to drop new magazines. "I can't please my girlfriend because I keep getting out of bed to refresh the Downloads page on RetroMags.com to see if new magazines have been released."

(you can use that as a quote on other websites for advertising, I release ownership of the sentence. Use it how you want. Thank you.)

I just refresh the site on my tablet while in bed with my wife. Up your technology game, @StrykerOfEnyo:whipcrack: :P

Thanks, I couldn't find any details about this from previous staff, but I know Halverson has a history of unfortunate events happening around him, but I assumed the staff left because they couldn't get paid again. I didn't know they didn't get paid for work already done, AND were expected to work for free. Thats tough.

My brother was one of the writers who got stiffed, so I have some rather...harsh opinions on the matter. 🤬

Issue #7 would be put entirely together by three people; Dave Halverson, James Bacon, and art director Rob Duenas.

The reason issue #7 was put together by three people is because the entire rest of the team who helped put the magazine together didn't get paid a cent for any of their work. And not just the work of writing the pieces for the print magazine and getting the screenshots and such, but also pitching and producing regular content for the website as well. So after issue six came out and they were told they'd been working for free, they said, "Screw this!" and walked away.

The idea of there being a printed article on Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden is disorientating.  It feels like something that should have no presence in the real world.

And yet, those crazy sons of bitches did it. :D

  9. Every holiday issue (November/December) of every major gaming magazine in 1994, 1995, and 1996 were utter behemoths in terms of size. Sure, 44% of those pages were ads, but still, when that monster showed up in your mailbox that week, you knew you were in for some hard choices about what to put on your gift list. :)

Thank you for sharing!  What programs do you use to view the files?  I downloaded this one, but I am having trouble viewing it.  Thanks for any help!  -Meech

    Hello, @Meech76!

There are a number of programs you can use to view .cbz/.cbr files. I use CDisplayEX. SumatraPDF and ComicBookReader are other options. :)

Ultimately, CBZ/CBR files are nothing more than container files, like ZIP or RAR archives, that hold images. You can use a program like 7Zip to open them up and extract individual images, or pull out the whole contents and scroll through them using the image viewer of your choice. I hope this helps! :)
