  1. I agree with all of this. Are you sure your ready to join the 4K master race? It is a pain in the butt to organize EA games from Steam games and Blizzard online only games but you have to take the good with the bad. The good is you get all the benefits of previous console generation but you also need to adapt to the problems that go with it. I installed VMware so I could have Windows 7 in a virtual operating System. This helps remove the burden from the main operating system and also like Kiwi said, Windows 10 breaks securerom so hundreds of games like Battlefield 1942 no longer work. Also I can have another copy of windows 10 that is used solely for retromags editing.
  2. That's a natural response, just like the Swedish guy who had to amputate his cock after it froze inside a snow-woman. It's not just the tits for me, it's the whole package.
  3. I get it Japan like handhelds, or maybe just Japanese style games? Children are not allowed to play unsupervised on a computer yet it is the one thing they desire most. Parents instead compromise with their children with Nintendo. But a computer is what they really want or at least an Xbox.
  4. If console peasants were happy with bad graphics it wouldn't affect computer gaming one bit. Nintendo Switch however is targeted to 8 year olds where I live. Every 8 year old wants a computer to play games but hardly any computer gamers desire a Nintendo. If they do have a Nintendo it is likely to signal how virtuous they are but it seldom gets used because they are either on the computer or one of the notable consoles.
  5. Nice analogy of the Matrix. When those movies came out I only had dial up and when ET came out, internet wasn't invented yet. In fact, I believe there is a correlation between the Atari age and the birth of the digital media age. In 1978 the peasants relied on magazine advertising to get their world news. Television games were new and the people looking for games were ignorant to what is good or not. Anybody who works here should already know this but the success of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster E.T. is what sold the merchandise, E.T. for Atari 2600 being one of them. Nowadays money is hard to come by but game critics are easy to find. Shenmue has nothing going for it as far as brand awareness or marketing capital. I was a supporter of Shenmue 3 and I hope I may conclude the series for myself but I'm also aware that 1 and 2 are unplayable for the millions of gamers today that don't own a Dreamcast for Shenmue 1 and an Xbox for Shenmue 2. As for the Doom, this is a marketing stunt to steal momentum from AMD's rivals. Enthusiasts are not impresses by this. We have a list of benchmarks and test that must be conducted in a lab setting before we know anything conclusive. Only peasants preorder things however, the Doom Vega tease does appear to be good news rather than bad news.
  6. Everybody keeps telling me that nintendo will only ever need the 720P graphics for the rest of their life because Mario Donkey Kong and Zelda are still drawn the same from 1982 and they like how it looks stretched out on grandma's flat screen. You're not allowed to hope they fail here. You need to embrace Gameboy Switch as salvation for Nintendo or leave it if you want.
  7. Yes, Valkyria Chronicles is still a good game which didn't cost alot to create. They combined the charm of Overwork's Skies of Arcadia with turn based dynamics of Shining Force. It was simple to play but chalenging to master and unfortunately never recieved the acclaim compared to Supreme Commander or Starcraft 2. Besides this sleeper hit Sega has made a name for themselves as a crapware developer to the general consumers in America. Watch Shenmue 3 in 2018. 69,320 backers pledged $6,333,295 when it releases, they will be lucky to sell 200,000 copies. The mass of people don't want Shenmue. They never owned a Dreamcast and will therefore not know what a Shenmue is. To a millennial Shenmue is like a stripped down boring version of Vice City and don't forget that Shenmue 1 and 2 were released 17 years ago on a system that ouputs 480P. How exactly are people supposed to pick this up at 3?
  8. Sega is a relic of a bygone era. All the talent left in 2001 when they went bankrupt. Since then Sega Sammy Holdings has failed to take any risks or allow any funds to go towards talented designers who may use Sega's short list of game labels and turn it into something original. It's been 15 years of Sonic and Mario at the olympics or computer strategy games in an already saturated market. Mario, Zelda Donkey Kong and almost any Nintendo games are arcade style. I define arcade style as only needing a directional pad and a few buttons. Tony Hawk and Super Mario Brothers could be in this same group. All you need is 2 buttons and a D-Pad to enjoy. The difference between the two is the realism. Tony Hawk looks better and better as the resolution increases while Mario will look worse. Developers may say they like the switch but money talks and business walks and I think the Switch is going to fail to earn a profit for Nintendo and something will have to change.
  9. - Nintendo needs to get some new developers who have freedom to design. Working for Nintendo is like working in somebody elses grandparents house which has a strange odor and their family messes around with you're lifes work. In other words Nintendo tells me what to do and I do it so nothing ever evolves. - Yes I would have bought a Switch if they gave me better graphics - Nvidia gave Nintendo a deal on lube. - Switch will sell 3 million 1st month then nothing all year - By Christmas Nintendo will be so scared that they will lower the price - By 2018 Nintendo will announce a new console - If they dont restructure, they will lay off thousands or sell games on other systems.
  10. That list is nearly the same as mine but I would like to add some points. - 4,5 and 6 started a trend of space movies. Great ones anyway and George Lucas was free to go wild with his ideas. This made tying all the plot holes in the future movies difficult. - Episode 7 dissapointed me because the story was boring besides the appearances of the original cast. - Episode 1 and 2 tried too hard explaining why 4,5,6 are the way they are. - I've been generous with the new movies because even though I've outgrown them, I still want to be objective for others.
  11. If I was going to simply remember "the good old days" from behind rose colored glasses, I wouldn't voice my concers over Nintendo's arrogance, but rather sit back and watch them fold. I won't buy a Switch because it rewards bad behavior. The 3DS should last me until Nintendo get's some new blood in the design team, if ever.
  12. If Xbox never existed, computer gaming would become twice as attractive. Nintendo would make the console for the kiddie's and Sony would likely do marginally better than it is now.
  13. I don't think Nintendo fans fully understand the consequences of choosing an old 22 nm platform from Nvidia. The hardware is more expensive and uses twice the wattage as anything from AMD's 2016 APU lineup. It is insulting to have Nintendo make dumb choices for hardware then turn around and tell it's fans that they are not going to sell it at a loss. Nintendo's stock is going to continue to tumble and they will have to restructure because the Switch won't pay the bills.
  14. The American equivalent for me is Twisted Sister. Anything off "A Twisted Christmas".
  15. So it has been confirmed again that the GPU in the Switch is the Nvidia Tegra X1. When docked, the GPU runs at 768MHz. They claim this is 1080P capable but mathematically this is not possible. When undocked, it downclocks 40% to 307.2 MHz. This leads to two problems. 1. Essentially, 2 versions of the game need to be created, 720P and 1080i There are a huge number of polygons and textures that need to be remodel. 2. The machine will have to be rebooted before you undock, this may only be an inconvenience Whoever negotiated this deal at Nintendo with Nvidia should be demoted.
  16. If the market is divided between 3 hardware manufacturers, users will be intimidated by making the wrong choice of which one to buy. Especially when the price is so high and the games all suck. If you own Star Wars Battlefront for Playstation 4 you can download the "X-wing VR Mission". I heard it's the best part of the game.
  17. I don't think a card game they made 400 years ago is the last good game they made. The 80's adored Nintendo's intellectual property during NES days. The computer nerds especially loved those Nintendo toys.
  18. Maybe use this opportunity to corner the market on the rarest psp games?
  19. Commodore and Amiga were Canadian companies then later US. Atari was California. Apple was California. IBM is American as Apple Pie Are you thinking about vic 20?
  20. AMD existed for one reason, IBM had a policy that there needs to be more than one choice of manufacturers for chips. AMD was always relegated to the low end of computing. Intel was cozy with the hardware manufacturer's and they made sure that the nice computers recieved Intel chips and the peasants got the alternative. Until the late 90's AMD got by on using Intel's socket and they also got good at cutting into Intel's market share by allowing overclock speeds at a time where 100 MHz meant $1000. In the early 2000's AMD was very competitive. AMD was the first to introduce true multicore cpu's and 64 bit architecture. All this while loweing the price for mainstream users. I listed the purchases required to have a good gaming experience. Certain games were must have's such as Grand Theft Auto 3 in mid 2001. The thing is, you realy wanted 1024 x 768 with mid to high draw distance so I bought the Radeon 8500. This played the majority of the games until late 2004 and mid 2005 when Battlefield 2, GTA San Andreas and Far cry released. For this was a big upgrade of the X800 Pro. This would play the majority of the games all the way past the fist World of Warcraft Expansion in 2010. The jump from 28 nm to 20 nm never happened because of poor yields. This is why graphics cards didn't enjoy a shrink for 4 to 5 years. AMD cpu division really took a beating. Look at Bulldozer. The reason Intel pulled away is because Intel manufactures their own chips and enjoyed a shrink to 20nm and again to 14nm. The other reason is because of poor decisions at AMD back in 2008 and 2009 when they began architecturing the Bulldozer. Bulldozer was theoreticaly a very good idea, it could scale up to 12, 16, or 20 cores much better than Intel but the problem was, the industry isn't ready for this kind of scaling back in 2010. The Bulldozer was seriously lacking single thread performance. It also never helps when manufacurer's have exclusive deals with Intel to use their chips in the nice computers but use AMD's in the $hit.
  21. *SPOILER* It's hard to believe anyone could walk into a cutting edge military installation with heavily armed and trained staff without running into one of them. How exactly would Jyn have without all the help she had?
  22. I defined the PC as a computer which can be used for home, office, recreation and at an affordable price. I made a chart listing the most popular and successful machines starting in 1977 all the way through 1990 which led the way to everything we do now that has a chip in it. In the 70's and 80's computers were built like furniture. There where only a few choices of CPU's and they determined the price of the machine. Motorolla 68000, MOS, Zilog Z-80 and Intel eventually raised the clock rates but only Intel survived. The Z-80 did get used in lower power devices such as game consoles. In 1985, the Compaq Deskpro 386 was an important machine in time because they took Intel's latest high end 80386 cpu and built the most powerful workstation 6 months before IBM. This would be Compaq's last great moment because as the 90's approached, the competition between computer manufacturers left smaller margins of profit. All prices are adjusted for inflation for 2016. Altair 8800 Jan 1975 Kit $1,969 assem $2786 Basic Interpreter by microsoft Apple I April 76 $2652 Commodore PET 77 $3,166 Basic TRS-80 77 $1561 - $2343 wmonitor custom dos Apple II 77 $5,170 - $10,506 BASIC Atari 800 1979 $3324 atari os Sinclair XZ80 80 $591 Custom basic Commodore Vic 20 80 $879 basic 2 Apple III 80 $12,485 SOS Closed Source IBM 5150 1981 $4145 - $7965 No floppy or monitor PCDOS 1 Xerox 820 1981 $7,985 CP/M 2.2 Commodore 64 82 $1461 basic NEC PC-9800 1982 $3001 Apple Lisa 1983 $24,220 Sony MSX 1983 MSXDOS MSX Basic Amstrad PC 1984 $1792 with color DOS IBM PC AT 5170 1984 $13,938 PC DOS 3 Compaq Deskpro 1984 (XT Class) Atari 520ST 1985 $1346 Atari TOS/GEM Commodore Amiga 1000 1985 $2905-4015 with or without monitor AmigaDos 1-1.34 Workbench GUI Macintosh 1985 $5596 mac OS Compaq DeskPro 386 1986 $15571 Commodore Amiga 500 1987 $1487 AmigaDos 1.34 Workbench Sharp X68000 1987 OS9 NetBSD Human68k Fujitsu FM Town 1989 Between 1990 and 1999, you only needed 2 computers. A decent 386 in 1990 and a Pentium I in late 1995. Intel upgrades were slow to come and expensive but all that mattered was the release of the Voodoo which needed at least pentium I. You could use a very good I486 with a Voodoo 1 but the framerate suffers. Pentium with MMX is much better than 486. Arcades were an important contribution to the development of 3d graphics which we all take for granted. When Playstation came out December 1994 in Japan, it was cutting edge. It sounds kind of funny but only a few of the most cutting edge arcade cabinets had better 3D polygons. Even the most high end computers were struggling to make a 3D card but it didn't really even matter much because the games were designed 2 Dimensional or they were CPU intensive. Playstation was released September 1995 in US as the most poweful console and 3D home computer for about a year. ATI, NVidia and others could not come up with a good 3D card. Enter 3DFX Interactive. This company was known for the arcade cockpit game San Francisco Rush. They took their technology, wrote some drivers for it and released what is called the Voodoo 1 3D accelerator for Windows 95 and DOS. No other manufacturer came remotely close to the Voodoo and later the Voodoo 2 for the next 3 - 4 years. 3DFX Interactive didn't like making generic products for manufactureres and was slow to building their AGP card so by the time they realized they couldn't get by on the enthusiast market, they went bankrupt and sold to Nvidia. But the race between ATI and Nvidia, AMD and Intel was not over yet.
