  1. Just want to say, as an old guy who grew up reading all of these magazines, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Being able to revisit these is the next best thing to actually going back and time traveling. It doesn't just bring back the articles, it brings back the memories, the feeling of the time when I first read them cover to cover, the excitement. Not to mention, it's given me an opportunity to share something I loved and bond with my kids. I'm not much for throwing a catch with them, but I will sit and talk with them for hours over the games, and magazines I loved, while hearing all about the new Skyrim mods they're excited about, or the new Let's Players they like to watch on YouTube. Gaming is something I can have common ground with them and form bonds over, and that's something I never grew up with when I was a kid. Your efforts, destroying those beloved issues, just so strangers like me can enjoy them and relive our past and share it, I just want to say that it isn't for nothing, and I TREASURE these memories and the ability to make new ones. It is so much appreciated. I wish words can fully express that. One thing I've been thinking about doing is making a YouTube channel of my own, similar to what CGQ or Happy Console Gamer does and focus on Let's Reads through some of my favorite issues. I have a full time job, so I'm not looking to make a career out of it or anything, I just want to share my love and passion for the subject and I hardly ever see anyone really covering old classic magazines in video format. I'm just not much of a camera person, but I honestly love reading these and I would love to share that. And hey, if I ever get big and do see a few bucks, I'll be sure to contribute to that Patreon.
  2. Thanks for all of the advice guys. Been reading some of the tutorial stickies, too bad there's broken images in the one tut, seems really informative. I'm a long time forum-go'er and former Administrator of Game Quest, a forum I ran from like 2001-2004, and I must say, your's may be a more tight knit group from what I've seen so far, but you give the warmest of welcomes. Not everywhere is so kind to us n00bs. It's very appreciated and quite refreshing. Still working on my first mag, IRL work is impeding my progress, but I'll have it done soon. I've got a stack of everything I own pre-2000 sitting in my living room aggrivating my girlfriend, so I know I must be doing something right! lol Hat's off to all of you and the great preservation work you're all doing.
  3. is learning how to make win.

  4. This would be right up my alley if I wasn't such a dirty pirate. Still, price is a bargain for what you get.
  5. Sonic and Knuckles was ingenious. Just fantastic to be backwards compatible with even Sonic 1. And of course, Sonic CD was a gem. I never disliked Sega, I just favored Nintendo. I owned both, bought games for both. The Genesis had some REALLY great titles I still play to this day. Forgotten Worlds, Altered Beast, Decap attack. I do remember playing the Mega Drive's DBZ game, it was actually very good. Ultimate Battle 22 was fun at the time, but it hasn't aged well. Go play it to see what I mean. DBGT Final Bout has aged well on the other hand. And also to mention, we're forgetting to even mention a classic I wasted many, MANY hours on, that being Sewer Shark. Not all FMV games were terrible, that one I absolutely loved. Better on the 3DO though, as was the case with most of those Sega CD FMV games. Just too much win during the 16 bit era.
  6. This series jumped the shark long ago after MM4. Capcom insists on not letting this die. MM9 was nice, I must say. The Retro throwback was awesome, and is quite a nice novelty. But seriously, they need to find some new IP's. Capcom is notorious for milking franchises. SF2 anyone? Of course MM10 will be fun, they all are. And being Wii Ware, at least it won't be expensive. But seriously, why can't we have a new UN Squadron? Or another Captain Commando? Like a really good one, not how they goofed up on Bionic Commando (NOT rearmed, that was AWESOME). I would love to see a Bionic Commando sequel in the fashion of Rearmed. I have lots of faith in Capcom, they are a quality brand, but they do focus on certain franchises way too much while starving others.
  7. Castlevania 2 was my first played in the series. I jumped on the NES bandwagon almost 3 years late (X-Mas 1988) so I started out with a lot of sequels, then went back and played the originals. Is it me, or are a lot of #2 sequels on the NES very oddball entries? For instance, SMB2, Zelda 2, Castlevania 2, Life Force (No 2 player Co-op in Gradius 1, or 3, and yeah I am aware of Gradius 2 in Japan as well as Doki-Doki Panic), Final Fantasy 2J was the oddball of the entire series, no EXP points, something not seen again until the upcoming FF14. I'm sure there's more like this, I just can't think of them right now. This trend of oddball entries into well known series also occured on the Gamecube, I.E. Wind Waker (Cel Shaded, water everywhere), Metroid Prime (FPA), Super Mario Sunshine (Hard as hell and a lot of WTF).
  8. I just bought the NES themed SP off of a friend last week. Originally I had a blue one but my ex-gf's kid destroyed it. Really, I just keep my GBA and SP around as Game Cube controllers for games that have that as a feature. The SP is really nice, at first I thought the orientation of the system reminded me of the original Gameboy, and the seashell design made it very portable. The SP was even more portable than todays consoles. Damned PSP is so bulky, I use the original model and a Logitech carying case. Fits in my pocket, but it's the only thing that will. Shouldn't complain though, with all the games you can fit on a 16GB memory stick, I guess it's worth it. I just carry a man-purse everywhere now. Too many damned portable items, NDS Lite, PSP, and Netbook, along with AC cords for them all, USB cord for the PSP (My whole PSP library is on the netbook hard drive really), as well as a wired 360 controller and a generic USB PS2 style controller for the netbook (For MAME). And I carry this EVERYWHERE I go, work, friend's houses, EVERYWHERE. I miss "just" having an SP, keys and my wallet in my pocket. Damnit if Micro$oft releases a handheld >.<
  9. My first "system" was an Atari 800XL. Got that in 1986 from my uncle after he upgraded to an ST. Christmas 1988 brought in the NES into my life, with my first games being the Triple Pack in cart, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, SMB2, Zelda 2. Funny how my intro to the Zelda world was the Oddball sequel. Next year I believe I got a Game Boy for Christmas. Tetris and SML to start out with. In 1993, I got an SNES for my birthday. Last one my parents ever bought me. 1994, Genesis and Master System. 1995, 3DO, TG-16/CD and a Neo Geo. I remember being the envy of all of my friends, being that I had a perfect copy of Samurai Showdown 2 in my house. 1997, Saturn and PSX. 1998, N64. In 2001 I discovered console Emulation on the PC, so I cleaned house and got rid of all my consoles, and started playing ROMs and ISOs on my "1337" 500Mhz Celeron with 256 MB's of RAM and a 10GB Hard Drive that would often studder playing AVI files in Windows Media Player. But damnit if SNES9x didn't look awesome on it. I thought this was the best thing in the world at the time, I didn't think it could get any better than this. Since then, I've gotten every major system, Dreamcast, GBA, PS2, Game Cube, X-Box, PSP, NDS, Wii, X-Box360 in that order and this year I built a pretty sweet gaming PC as well. I don't think I left anything out except for maybe my old Game Gear, didn't have it long, never really liked it that much anyway. I never did own a 2600, Jaguar or a Lynx. Played a lot of 2600 though. Next up is a PS3 come tax return time, and a 3rd Video card for Triple SLI this Christmas for the PC. And Wii HD if they ever make it. Wonder what's next?
  10. Then I'll start looking, I'm sure I'll find some kind of gem the site may want. I've got some old Nintendo buyers guide with Bart Simpson on the cover from maybe late 80's early 90's. And an old rare Japanese Panasonic 3DO mag that's really interesting to look at even now. Lots of "Adult" games out in Japan for 3DO that we didn't see here in the States (I happened to own the original 3DO back in 1995, bought it for $300 off of a friend as well as a TG16/CD with Cosmic Fantasy 2 damn, those were the days!). I'll start teaching myself scanning tonight after my GF leaves for work. And I'll set aside some of the better mags I have tonight as well.
  11. 1.) Final Fantasy 3/6 2.) Zelda LttP 3.) Super Castlevania IV 4.) Super Mario World 5.) Street Fighter II Turbo Spent a lot of time back then playing DBZ Super Butoden 1, 2, 3, especially 2. No one can beat me in a straight up Fireball clash, even to this day. Wish I still owned those games, I imported them all, spent nearly $200 USD in 1995 for DBZ: SB3 >.< Now they come out like every 6 months for the 360 and Wii but they aren't as fun as the 16 bit fighters were. Stupid americanized DBZ dumbed down violence and being a damned kids show -.- Edit: By the way, MSNBC's list is full of fail. I never liked DKC, it was just not fun for me. I wanted to like it, but I couldn't. And SONIC over MARIO?! Blasphemy! Mario had a lot more substance and fun gameplay than sonic ever did, including Sonic 2 and 3. I would take SMB1 over Sonic anything anyday. Don't get me wrong, I Looooooooooooove old Sonic games, but not more than Mario ones.
  12. Was googling to see when the new EGM would come out, happened across a link to a scan of issue #1, and remembered seeing that very issue on a newsstand in my old neighborhood (Same place I used to buy my Series 1 and 2 Marvel cards, I believe 1990 and 1991, still have these in near Mint too). Good old Mega man 2. I never did read EGM #1 untill now. Was such a treat to see it. Eventually, I'd like to get my hands on all the EGM I can. It was an important part of my childhood. I had a badass collection of mags from #47+ like nearly every single month. I never did get a subscription, because at the time, I thought if I paid full newsstand prices, EGM would make more money. I didn't really have a good concept of economics at the time. I moved around a lot in my life, so subscriptions usually didn't happen. I do have a stable home now that I am older, and decided to get a subscription to EGM back in November of 2008. So I get my 2 issues after procrastinating (Been meaning to get a subscription since at least December 2007 this time around) and now I'm stuck with Maxim magazines that usually get tossed after I read the 2 or 3 Video Game related articles they MAY have. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a magazine full of hot women, but Maxim is just a tease. If I'm going to look at women, they'll either be made of Pixels/ Polygons or wearing a lot less than they do in Maxim, or better yet, be wearing that lot less in my apartment lol. So long story short, Googled for EGM info, found some PDF's, torrents, Rocketboy site ---> you guys. And tough break for you all, I'm kinda hard to get rid of >.> But at least I genuinely have a love for THE GAME <----(lol you just lost it, sorry, I /b/ a lot too -.-)
  13. I got a scanner, it's a Brother MFC-290C Printer/Scanner/Fax combo, would it be worth scanning some of my mags? You guys seem to already have a lot of the stuff I would probably be able to contribute, but I'd be happy to try. I'm sure I can learn how to make a CBZ or PDF, I'm pretty good at learning computer related stuff. I'd dig out my mags in a heartbeat if you guys want them. Would seem like a pittance to get my hands on the old EGM's I want to see.
  14. Sup? I've been gaming for almost 26 years now. Started back in 1984 with an old Atari 800XL. Long time reader of EGM (Long live the king!) and OLD Nintendo power from the 8/16-bit era. I'll admit, I'm a Nintendo/ JRPG fanboy, but I do get into all kinds of gaming, so long as it's not Modern Sports titles. I just can't stand anything with the words Madden or NHL and a number higher than '94. My mainstays are anything Final Fantasy related, including XI, Nintendo first party titles, old 16 bit Dragon Ball Z games (Can thank EGM for that one). I'm 30 now. Was reading EGM religiously since issue #47 (I must have been 12 or 13 at the time) but I did own a few of the single digit issues, and I also remember issue #25 specifically. I didn't have a job prior to 12 years old, so my parents wouldn't always fork over the cash for a new mag every month, and trying to get a subscription from them back then, let's just say, that wasn't an easy feat. I did manage to squeeze out the first 2 years of Nintendo power out of them though. Nowadays, I'm a firm supporter of emulation, especially on the PSP. Nothing like having every single game you ever wanted as a kid on a single memory stick. I came here looking for old EGM mags I missed or even owned as a kid. My mom went nuts and trashed my collection when I was 16. So I don't have any issues that pre-date 1997, but I do have nearly 75% of the issues since then, in a box in my closet. I was looking to donate and get my hands on PDF versions, but it seems I can't do that. Is that function ever coming back? Or at the very least, the Rapidshare links? I'm dying to read some old EGM, it's good nostalgia for me. Anyway, nice to meet you all.
