This brings back memories! I actually had this magazine, but I didn't even have a Playstation yet. It's funny in hindsight to see the promotion of Chrono Trigger without the mention of Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball had it's first whatever episodes dubbed ending with Oolong making the wish on the Dragon Balls and the gang deciding to split for now. Dragon Ball Z was being broadcast around this time too! It just hadn't hit critical mass in American audience's minds yet because of the censorship and editing down of the first 67 episodes down to 53.
So while it was in existence around this time in the States, it wasn't known enough to tout Akira Toriyama's influence on this game. Now it's a case of obvious recognition, and in my childhood mind I thought based on the look of the lead characters, that this game was somehow related to Secret of Mana. I think it was over a year before I even got Chrono Trigger as a Christmas gift. Mortal Kombat 3 I think is best remembered for that highly kiddified cartoon adaptation, and the mess created with the different versions of Sub-Zero.

Here's another one I owned as a kid and only remember upon seeing this image. The "Final Fantasy III Best RPG ever!" got my attention since I wasn't thrilled or impressed by the NES original, and the American SNES Final Fantasy II (IV) was actually a really awesome game and deserves a better remake/expansion/retranslation than it's received in all the years since. This magazine actually got me interested in asking for the "Final Fantasy III" as a gift, but even as a kid I could tell that something was up with the translation. Some lines were so cringe worthy and embarrassing in my mind even as a kid. I mean stuff like "son of a submariner", "run run, or you'll be well done!" and just overall stuff like that I mean, really?! I used to hold onto old gaming magazines like this as outside reading material, sometimes you found more information by more thoroughly going through it from cover to cover. This magazine is totally worth reading for its hugely detailed section on the American Final Fantasy III, just to look at how it's changed, and then go over to legends of localization to see what a terrible job the translators have consistently done to all of the Final Fantasy's.
