  1. You don't need an account to download magazines. So hopefully the fact that you don't want your account canceled means that you wish to participate in the forums or otherwise contribute to the site. Looking forward to having another active member onboard.
  2. OGM has oodles more downloads than Retromags, especially UK/AUS/NZ and computer-related titles. (Btw, regarding PC Gamer, they have all the newer issues archived as well, they just aren't available to download so long as the publisher is still selling them). The VGHF provides lots of scans to Retromags, actually. A significant amount of the scans released by MigJmz and dablais over the past couple of years were provided by them (anything with TheRedEye or Shadsy listed as scanner is from the VGHF.)
  3. Yeah, between here and OldGameMags, I'm pretty sure every issue of both PC Gamer USA and UK are already available. A FAR cry from when I first joined and there were a literal handful of issues available. I'm not sure how helpful a list of what I've got would be. Aside from the stuff pulled from googlebooks, I've got about 100 digital PDFs from 2012-2020. But since none of that stuff can be shared here, and the identification marks you seem to be using aren't present on digital mags (vol/no on spine, ISSN on barcode box), I'm not sure how useful they'd be.
  4. See, this is why your help on this title is needed. I've got 250 issues of this mag...on my hard drive, but I've never once seen an issue in person. I had no idea these things even HAD volume/issue numbers, since apparently the only place they ever printed that information WAS ON THE SPINE (which never gets scanned.) Having someone with physical copies in their hands put together this database is invaluable.
  5. Interesting. I tried deleting cookies, which didn't work, but apparently the limit on giving likes is a constantly rolling 24-hour thing, as in between the time I ran out of likes and now, I was just now able to leave 3 more likes before running out again. So it's not a case of all of them resetting at midnight or whatever. Such a weird limitation. I know Phillyman was concerned that people would just go through the forums, liking every single post to earn points towards a higher ranking. Two problems I see with that: 1. Those rankings mean absolutely nothing. They don't get you extra privileges like a higher member status does. They literally do nothing at all. 2. I believe you get 1 point for leaving a like. OK. From the rank I'm currently at to the next highest rank is over a 100,000 point divide. So I'd have to leave 100,000 likes to advance one rank. Oh, and btw, there have only ever been 40,000 forum posts total since the site was created 20 years ago - so I'd have to somehow like every single post EVER MADE two and a half times each to advance LOL. No one is going to do this, is what I'm saying.
  6. Thanks. What I meant was, I'm unable to give any more likes to other people at the moment, as you can only leave 10 reactions per day, I think. Receiving them from other people doesn't change that. But I'm always happy to receive, regardless.
  7. I wish I could do it faster, but my editing style just won't allow it. I've got every unreleased issue of this mag (and several others which I want to create my own scan/edit of) waiting in my pile, but they're so time-consuming I need a vacation from Game Player's each time I finish one. They're coming though. p.s. I'm all out of "likes" for the day (daily limit of 10, I think?), but consider your comment appreciated.
  8. You mean the latest masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from Lucasfilms™ Brian Moriarty™? Loom is a beautiful game. Also, probably the first graphic adventure I finished completely on my own without needing any hints. Loved the musical interface - only ever played it on "expert" difficulty.
  9. 71 downloads

ADF scanners are great, but every long once in a while disaster strikes. These early Game Player's are printed on super-thin paper, and sometimes the scanner's rollers fail to grip the page properly before pulling it through. One minute, you're happily scanning, and the next to hear the loud sound of crumpling paper as the scanner wads up a page caught in the rollers. Luckily I was able to rescue it before it was torn to shreds. and salvage it in editing. Gave me a fright, though. Super-thin crumpled pages aside, Game Player's also has TERRIBLE photography in some of the screenshots. Look at these two, from the same game. One, decent and in-focus, and the other, taken on baby's-first-disposable-camera during an earthquake. Bringing some of the (proper) color back to the photography is what makes editing this mag so time-consuming (some pages taking up to 20 minutes editing each screenshot separately), but as Game Player's PC is one of the few mags I'm personally interested in, I want to make it as good as I can, even if it means double-digit hours hunched over Photoshop.

  11. OMG IT'S TRUE!!! LOL. Seriously. I'm pretty sure I finished this game in a single sitting the very first time I played it.
  12. Nowadays it's different with upgrades like RAM boosts and graphics cards, but anyone playing PCs in the 80s/90s remembers the thrill of finally making the ultimate upgrade - a whole new system, which, separated by years from the previous system, usually represented a sea change in the types of games available to you. This wasn't a matter of "oh, now I can play with the higher quality textures turned on," this was huge leaps, like EGA to SVGA, or floppy disk to CD-ROM. Most of us probably only experienced this kind of upgrade once or twice (unless you were rich, I guess), but it was a super exciting time, as, prior to the upgrade, we had probably gone years playing our older system, but unable to run any of the latest games. Suddenly, the world was open to us again, and we could walk into Babbages or wherever and every game on the shelf was a possible addition to our collection. In our first trip back on the gaming saddle, what would our first game purchase be? Noctropolis was one of those post-upgrade initial purchases for me. I don't think I knew anything about it (I tended to stop buying gaming mags during the years when my computer couldn't run any of them), so I guess I was sold by the box (and hey, it came with a comic book, too!!) It's definitely not a favorite game or anything, but I'm certainly not ashamed of it.
  13. Probably not. I own Black Dahlia, but never owned or played Ripper. I'm told that the version here will run on modern Windows: https://www.zombs-lair.com/ripper Anyone want to try it out and report back?
  14. I wonder if anyone but me remembers what VHS tapes came in oversized boxes. WHY SO BIG? "HEY! HERE I AM!!! I'M NOT SHY, LOOK AT ME!! You can't hide THIS behind your normal videos, NO SIR! Look how big my...screenshots are!" Not to date myself, but 1996 saw me starting college and entering co-habitation with my gf, so luckily I wasn't completely dependent upon grainy low-res FMV adventures for thrills.
  15. Probably so. The mag I'm currently editing has articles on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, King's Quest IV, and Loom. A good issue. I remember back in the day being at the store picking up mags off the stands and skimming through, checking for graphic adventure coverage. No graphic adventures - no purchase.
  16. I see your hour and raise you: In the past ten years, I've scanned around 375 magazines, not to mention built significant portions of this website including adding over 9,000 issues to the database and nearly 35,000 gallery images, yet I haven't played games for over twenty years. WHY AM I EVEN HERE?
  17. This game is so bad LOL. But then, the first one is no great shakes, either. It seemed edgy at the time for having a brief bit of nudity (wow! a real person naked in a mainstream game!), but you'll get plenty more boobs and entertainment out of just about any awful b-movie horror film. Or, you know...the Internet. RIP, FMV.
  18. @Areala Sorry to bring this up again, but I was just reading a PDF of Hardcore Gaming 101's Guide to Classic Graphic Adventures (1334 pages!) and in the intro when discussing how they decided which games to include, they defined them like so: As for Myst clones, it seems that 2 terms were used - "first person adventures" and LOL "Myst clones." One more interesting thing I noticed was this: So anyway. The way I've always felt about graphic adventures is -- I know one when I see one. But it seems everyone has their own definition, not necessarily in line with mine.
  19. Looks like you need 8 more posts, then. It's silly, but I don't make the rules. Then, what you'll be looking for is this:
  20. As I mentioned before, I believe you have the ability to add issues to the database (according to the site FAQ all members have that ability) - if not now, then once you become a regular member when you hit 25 posts. So seeing as how you put in so much effort already and have an active interest in it, I'd say you're without doubt the most knowledgeable/qualified person to build that particular database. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about how to do that.
