Looking For A New Non Flash Web Game

I am stuck at the office for many many hours and all I have to keep myself occupied is my iPhone. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone. BUT, since Apple is going to be a jerk about it and not get any kind of flash player my website viewing / non app gaming is pretty sparse. The web based game I use to play is closing shop, so I am looking for something new. I only require that it is 1) Free, 2) Fun, 3) Doesn't require flash at all.

Any ideas out there?

Apparently I have to do a gratuitous bump in order to get it up on the Recent Discussions page so someone will see it.

I've not played it personally, but I've heard some good stuff about Terra Est Quaestuosa (aka TEQ). It's browser-based, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't use Flash at all, it's completely browser-based. Might be worth a look...

TEQ Homepage

If you're looking for another way to kill a few minutes every day, you can always play Legends of Zork. :) The Activision crew has brought the realm of Zork into the browser-based world, and you can play with (and against) thousands of other players online. You get a limited number of turns per day, but it's been up long enough now that they've ironed out many of the bugs that plagued the launch version. No flash required, it just loads and plays in your browser.

And while I'm at it, I know you don't want a Flash-based game, but anybody interested in checking out a really cool visual novel that is totally and completely not safe for work (NSFW!), I encourage you to check out the Flash version of Divi-Dead as long as violence, nudity, and other things that you could see in any Rated R/18+ film don't upset you.

Divi-Dead Flash Version

Hope those help! :)

NOW my phone is totally broken and it will be a few days before Apple gets around to sending me a new one. Anyway, any more ideas while I wait for a replacement?

I work at this store that is selling these radical new inventions that are being marketed as "Book". They consume no power, can be opened and shut dozens of times, are completely free of annoying DRM issues, can be freely traded among friends or resold after they are purchased, are tabulated with easy-to-read page numbers, and a simple receipt or even a gum wrapper can be used to mark one's place.

Book is very interesting in that it is so portable, you can take it anywhere, even places you would never take your PDA or your laptop (like the bathtub), and they have good-sized margins where you can take notes. Also, book is traditionally printed on recyclable "paper" (imagine a totally white screen without the electrons!) which can easily handle underlining, highlighting, and other simple notation work with no OS upgrades or annoying system software to get in the way. Once you have your book, it is yours and you can do with it as you like--it's just like getting access to the source code with every purchase!

Perhaps the coolest thing about book is that it is available in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, styles and formats which allow you to tailor each book you purchase to your personal needs. They store easily on convenient shelves or end tables that you already have in your home, and can rest flat or stand up without damage. For instance, if you enjoy pictures of trees, there are literally hundreds of different book available with different pictures, stories and information. Plus, for the super creative, you can even go so far as to purchase BLANK book! These are book that you yourself create, by adding your own words and can function as an offline, eco-friendly blog that can be passed around to co-workers and friends alike. Imagine getting all the tools to create a killer application with one simple $5 purchase, and you can see why blank book is the way of the future. And it can be a lucrative business: the best book creators get to make millions of dollars "writing" book for other people to enjoy!

With no batteries to charge, no AC adapter cords to mess with, and no screen to scratch, book really is the next technical marvel of our great society. So support your local book store, and when your co-workers ask what you are doing when they see you leaning back in your chair, you can tell them that you are an early-adopting beta-tester of book: the hottest thing to hit the streets since crack cocaine. But if they want to borrow yours, tell them to get their own book.

WARNING: Book is one of the most addictive substances imaginable, especially when combined with such other product as "warm bed", "soft blanket", "curled up puppy", "cup of caffeinated beverage", and "quiet rainstorm". Know what you are getting into before you take the plunge...to book!

;)

I allready have a pretty healthy book addiction. Barnes and Noble knows me. Not just the sales people, I am pretty sure the store itself recognizes me. It started with an interest in the Star Wars books and has since spread out to most fiction, non fiction, and now has spread into just about every corner of the store. I guess I have a rather wierd and eclictic taste when it comes to books. Problem is, I would get caught reading them during work. My boss doesn't care if I am messing with my phone, but if I stop work to read a few chapters of a book, that might get me in trouble :P
