New Blog Feature: Auto Import Your External Blog

The Blog system is a great way for users to create their own mini sites from within Retromags. When we first launched the Blog system, users could do one of two things....

• Create a Local Blog
  
• Link To an External Blog
  

Now the first choice is very simple, your blog is on Retromags....and you come here to post new items. The second option is for members who already have a personal blog somewhere else on the internet. When a member used the second option, it just provided a link to that members external blog. Thats where the problem is, when a local blog is updated....it just pushes those externally linked blogs down the list. There is really no incentive for users to follow the link to that members external blog. Well with the newest version of our blog software, comes the ability to import sniplets from external blogs. Now members can create a local blog on Retromags, but add the URL to their external blogs RSS feed....and it will import a portion of that article and provide a link back to the full article. This is a much better solution for members, so I have disabled the ability to create Externally linked blogs, members are now encouraged to use the RSS Import option.

All user groups besides "Newcomers" have this new ability enabled.
