Xbox 360 Xbox Live

I'm posting here on the offchance that somebody may know about my problem, as it's a pain in the ?ss gettin any help for it directly from microsoft because of the number of monkeys they employ.

I'm confused on how to connect to Xbox Live. I have an ADSL connection, which means the modem cabling is completely different from the ethernet cables for Cable internet access. And Microsoft has kindly given FAQs on connecting to Cable internet, and disregarded ADSL completely, as far as I can make out. So I'm totally lost.

I don't want a wireless connection from my PC to the internet, just from my Xbox 360 to the internet. I presume I place this wireless ADSL compatible router between my regular ADSL modem and PC via wires, with the 360's wireless adapter tuning into the wireless router's receiver to hop onto my PC's internet as a second device?

What ADSL wireless routers are compatible with Xbox Live for use with the Official Xbox360 Wireless Network Adapter? I'm totally confused as to if Xbox Live would work by just buying any wireless ADSL modem. The list given on the Xbox help pages of compatible routers are all Cable internet routers (unless I'm mistaken, which I can't see how).

Please, someone, clear up my confusion

Regards,

:o

I would have replied but I don't own an Xbox. I do however enjoy online gaming with my DS (Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS, and Clubhouse Games are all highly recommended) and before too long I will be doing some online gaming from the Wii.

Nintendo may be new to the online gaming scene (and these friend codes are kind of a pain) but at least you don't have to pay extra for wireless with their systems. :P

I use a D-Link model DIR-625 (Draft N) for my systems.

I'm not sure if you have figured this out or not but this is the set-up I am using. I have a Belkin Wireless G Router connected between my DSL modem and my PC. I have a Wireless G Gaming Adapter connected to my XBox 360 and it works perfectly. I bought the gaming adapter at Wal-Mart for less than $60.

Hope that helps you or anyone else with the same question. :)

I'm going to assume that your ADSL modem is external, gets its signal from the telephone line, and that there is no port for Cat-5 (ethernet) cable that allows it to connect to the WAN port of a router, forcing you to use USB or something entirely proprietary for PC Internet?

If you didn't already buy a wireless router, you might want to ask your ISP if you can use a modem that is also a router such as this:

If you already have a wireless router, you'll need a better modem that does support the Cat-5 standard such as this:

I suppose it is possible to share the Internet connection if your PC has a spare ethernet port, or use an old PC as a router with something like Smoothwall, but wouldn't you rather have a device thats sole purpose is to grant you reliable Internet connectivity without relying on the state of your PC?

I do make a lot of assumptions, though. I don't have an XBox, I do have cable, my modem does support Cat-5, it connects directly to a wireless router, and my Wii detected my router the second I plugged it it and I can play any net-enabled games free of additional charges, and I am guessing that an XBox would work equally well once I shelled out my hard-earned money for it's imaginary, non-Internet providing pseudo-ISP so I could have the honor of playing GoW and Halo 3 before selling it while it's still popular so I could begin saving early for Halo 4 on the XBox 720!!!
