  1. I came across this cool bit of news today that I thought you DS owners might appreciate. Check it out HERE. Note: This post was edited to fix the link on 3/31/06.
  2. Yes, my hopes are occasionally bolstered, however, by certain court rulings like this one: French court ruled that not only downloading copyrighted content for private use is legal, but uploading as well.
  3. I'm sure that Bill (Gates) the conqueror has designs on the handheld OS market.
  4. I think that Dr. Fisher was only making an analogy when she mentioned chocolate cake. Apparently, some people were criticizing her detailed study of the brain systems involved in romantic love. Their concern was that perhaps by knowing the gritty details of how the experience of love looks when translated into brain processes, it makes it more difficult to experience and enjoy love. Fisher's reply was that just because one knows the what ingredients go into a chocolate cake, it doesn't mean that they can't enjoy chocolate cake on the same level as everyone else.

    Forum Arcade !

I don't think that the Blasterman game works. I have tried it a couple of times but I am never able to get it to load up past 9/33 objects. Has anyone else had different results? :(

I thought of another classic: Missle Command!
  7. Java apps? Does this mean that I'll be able to play Gravity Ball 2 on the go now?
  8. It seems like there are a lot of conflicts between freedom of speech, freedom of information, and laws to protect intellectual property. I am concerned that corporate interests in intellectual property protection may overextend their reach and lead to an internet in which less and less information is actually free.
  9. Even when you are aware of certain errors that people tend to make like illusory correlations, behavioral confirmation, and the fundamental attribution error, you still tend to make them yourself. More basic psychophysiological processes like romantic love and attachment are even more difficult to exert cognitive control over. For example: if you know a whole lot of technical details about why and how people sleep, it doesn't mean that it will affect the quality or quantity of your own sleep.
  10. Actually, I kind of like the older ads. I am all about nostalgia value and they really take me back...
  11. What is the range of years that these other mags were published? I am not as familiar with some of them but I love the more retro stuff.
  12. Unfortunately, the Duck Hunt joke was not found on the clip from last night's show, which can be found here: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_dai...ent/index.jhtml. And although I would never advocate an act which might be considered piracy you can find every episode (including last night's) on torrentspy.com if you're into the whole bittorrent scene.

The fiancee has been watching the skating and is looking forward to the ice dancing competition immensely.
  14. Seriously! I mean 500 GB hard drives are currently available for under $300. Sure it would be bulky but it doesn't seem that unrealistic to me that an MP3 player with that type of capacity could be manufactured. Remember back when you had to carry around not only a bulky circa 1991 portable cd player but a big case of CDs too? would a bulky 500 GB (or at least 250 GB) MP3/FLAC player be so terrible?
  15. I'm trying to get away from using lossy MP3s myself. I am a huge fan of the lossless FLAC format.

    Dvd Authoring?

I have done something similar before. You can rip your 3 stooges DVD to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter and then add whichever titles that you want to the new disc during the authoring process. I have never used DVD Lab myself, only TMPEGEnc DVD Author. I recommmend checking out videohelp.com as the forum there has alot of helpful guides and experienced people who could give you great advice on this type of project.
  17. In case you didn't see it, the classic NES shooter Duck Hunt was featured in a "re-enactment" of VP Dick Cheney accidentally shooting his hunting companion in the face in the Daily Show tonight. Hilarious!

As if I weren't already a compulsive arcade patron....
  19. Anybody remember the Game Axe? It's the earliest system I can think of that let you play your actual NES carts on the go. I never had one so I couldn't vouch for quality, but I remember it sounding cool at the time.
  20. There was an article on ign.com's "Revolution Mailbag" the other day in which the editor indicated in response to a question that was mailed in that it was very unlikely that Nintendo would make the old multiplayer games online compatible as it would be easiest for them to simply be emulated. I am holding out hope, however that the clever and innovative folks at Nintendo will embrace the online gaming scene, even if it means spending the time to re-engineer the classics. As for the option to apply filters, I agree that that would be cool as long as they offered a pixel for pixel version as well.
  21. I forgot to add Richard Cheese to the humor section of my gaming music mix. There's nothing that compares to the swankified lounge version of Slipknot's people=crap!
  22. Holy hell! That's cooler than I thought it would be! It certainly lives up to the description "robot in disguise".
  23. Ah, Nesticle. Gotta love that bloody dripping severed hand cursor. You just don't see that attention to detail in homebrew programs anymore!
  24. Does anybody know of any similar quirky challenges for other classic games? I can't imagine getting through Super Mario Bros without jumping but perhaps getting through Metroid with a certain low number of Missile expansions?
